Argentina claimed on Wednesday that the navy school training frigate “Libertad” has been retained in Ghana and blamed “unscrupulous financers” belonging to “vulture funds” who are demanding the payment of sovereign bonds, said the office of Minister Hector Timerman in an official communiqué. I love how Argentina has pissed off so much these anglo losers, btw the biggest cheaters in international finance.

Just ask the millions in their OWN countries and Europe/Asia that have been reduced to economic ruin by the financial cricis they created.

Argentina will play when they pay for the 10 trillion in unsecured derivatives they foisted on unsuspecting small investors and retirees around the planet.

Ah trying the old distraction technique I see, clumsy application.

I also think you are confused when you say 'Argentina will pay once 10 trillion is paid'

    1. What does that have to do with Argentina?
    2. Argentina has no intention of paying anything and openly mocks international bodies that suggest it should

Because the issue is already settled. The hold-outs will simply slowly die, and that will be that.

What does this have to do with the Falklands, Brit? Wasn't that your only reason to care about Argentina in your troubled country, which probably will be broken up in a couple of years?

    Yet here you are.

Seems the issue is far from settled Tobias given Argentina is staunchly locked out of the international money markets even if Argentina considers it settled.

lol Guzz, I'll come and go through Uruguay as I please. Threatening me online factually means you have a small penis, congrats.
Uruguay's a good country, and if you really are Uruguayo, which I doubt, I think you're probly Argentine...but if you really are Uruguayo, then you're a disgrace, siding with a nation that's been bullying yours for decades.

Also Guzz, its really all dependent on your perspective. USA was trying to train Uruguayan police to maintain the peace and stability....at all costs. This was both to protect US financial interests in the country, as well as to protect your own prosperity....which you lost due to the instability brought on by your rebellion. Even Mujica agrees, and regrets having taken part in the violent uprisings.
Cuba's the perfect example. It was a land of riches, the locals all had good paying jobs and a good life. Sure, they weren't as wealthy as many of the US tourists visiting, but their lives were SO much better than now. Now they're poor, living in shabby conditions, all the infrastructure is totally falling apart. If Cubans had behaved, and not destabilized itself, it would be like Hawaii in wealth, like a giant Disneyland today, full of wealthy, happy people with great infrastructure.

I am a lawyer in international relations. This is a non-issue and the holdouts will be unsuccesful. The Ghanans are merely attempting to portray judicious jurisprudence in this particular circumstance, because they calculate this will score points with the plaintiffs, which are players in international finance, and perhaps also the governments of certain nations. They are fully cognizant Argentina will quickly prevail after a short, cursory hearing, because this vessel will easily be determined to be protected under international statutes of friendship and goodwill (this particular ship's mission is neither economic nor military, it is for cultural exchange). As a result, this complaint will be expeditiously denied further process.

As a result Ghana scores a win-win. Argentina has nothing to fear here. Good evening to all.

You have to compete no matter what. If you are an athiest, then that means you understand we live in a system of evolution. Evolution = survival of the fittest, competition.
Cuba didn't really have to compete, Americans flooded in nonstop with tourism dollars to enjoy the culture, and that was it, no competition really needed, it was the #1 choice to spend tourism dollars from USA.
90 percent or more of Uruguayans would disagree with you Guzz, they DO want American tourism dollars, and foreign investment (although many don't want mines, there are other forms of investment that they would like, and certainly better paying jobs.)
Blaming the US/white man for your problems is like an Argentina or an African, you have to raise yourself above that and wipe your own bottom, take care of your own problems, and better yourself.
If you don't like something, become successful, wealthy, powerful enough to change it.....but sitting around and complaining about it achieves NOTHING. Just makes you look like a fool, aka an Argentina or African, and keeps you poor, angry, and unhappy.

    QUERULANT PARANOIA

A querulant (from the Latin querulus - “complaining”) is a person who obsessively feels wronged, particularly about minor causes of action. In particular the term is used for those who repeatedly petition authorities or pursue legal actions based on manifestly unfounded grounds. These applications include in particular complaints about petty offenses.

Querulant behavior is to be distinguished from either the obsessive pursuit of justice regarding major injustices, or the proportionate, reasonable, pursuit of justice regarding minor grievances. According to Mullen and Lester, the life of the querulant individual becomes consumed by their personal pursuit of justice in relation to minor grievances.[1]

In psychiatry, the terms querulous paranoia (Kraepelin, 1904)[2][1] and litigious paranoia[3] have been used to describe a paranoid condition which manifested itself in querulant behavior. The terms had until recently largely disappeared from the psychiatric literature, largely because they fell out of fashion after being misused to stigmatise the behavior of people seeking the resolution of valid grievances.[4] In the DSM-IV-TR, “querulous paranoia” is a subtype of the persecutory type of delusional disorder.[5] It also appears in ICD-10, under its Latin name Paranoia querulans, in section F22.8, ”Other persistent delusional disorders.

Don't you just love Wiki, seek and ye shall find, logial explanations for all sorts of absurd behaviours.

Loving this thread. You've managed to work TTT up into such a frenzy that he's even lauding Islamic terrorism.

Rather puzzled by his comments about travelling too. Most of the middle class in the UK have been all over the world - though South America is probably one of the last places on the list. Not because of anything in particular to put them off but more because there's nothing in particular to attract them. Makes me believe TTT is actually Argentine after all.

As for the article - Argentina has tried it's usual trick of trying to blame it's favourite bogeymen for everything. They seem to need to get the word “colonialism” into every press release. As the rest of the world just rolls it's eyes it can only be for domestic consumption - what does that say about the domestic mentality? It seems to have the same effect as a dog whistle in a kennel

Anyway, returning to the (semi) subject of the article, I not only think this is funny but it should flag up an interesting series of possible events. First, reports say that the Libertad will only be released on payment of an “unspecified” sum as a sort of “bail”. Funny in itself. But, apparently, there are 200 members of the Argentine navy aboard. Next funny bit is that, the last time I arrested a ship (in UK waters), it wasn't allowed to make contact with the shore for the purpose of re-supply. Chances are that the court in Ghana operates on the same principles. Then, the Libertad is supposed to be on a tour. Will it take a chance on another African country? Or will it flee back across the Atlantic? But there's more! With this as a precedent, will any argie aircraft or vessel dare to land or enter the territorial waters of any country outside LatAm? With billions of dollars of unrestructured debt at stake, I can see a lot of argie government assets being detained around the world or being forced to stay in LatAm!

Of course, TiT wants to know why we are all here on a non-Falklands issue. It's because we like to see you lot suffer, TiT. We enjoy watching you fall flat on your faces. We are pleased to see you getting a tiny portion of your come-uppance. We look forward to seeing more!

    @120 TiT
On the contrary, the majority of middle class earners will regularly holiday abroad. Maybe not the case for lower earners or young families as in my case many years ago, though over the last ten years as my kids have flown the nest & mortgage has been paid off have made a point of seeing the world (only 3 continents so far). It may be of a surprise to you, but, it is actually cheaper in many cases to holiday abroad than it is to holiday in the UK.

According to a recent ABTA report...

“Up to 13 million holidaymakers will be heading overseas in July and August, according to Abta.
The organisation said 90% of these would be visiting Mediterranean countries, which British tourists are favouring due to the strength of the pound against the euro.
Abta said its research also showed that three million people intend to attend Olympic events in London and the UK this summer.”

So that's 13 million in just July & August, less those who decided to go to the Olympics instead.
The majority of that 13 million will be families taking breaks during the school holidays, then consider the rest of the year when many prefer the cooler months to holiday.

So it may seem odd to you that many of us have travelled considerably, but you must remember when the US/UK/EU hit hard times our lower classes are probably better off than your middle to upper classes.

Not to worry, it's tough being an Arge.

I think the way Argentina structures their grain exports may also pose a bit of a problem for them. I think, although I am not sure, the gov't owns the grains and soy oil once it leaves the country. That could prove a bit troublesome down the line. It would be fun to see the cargos impounded, maybe they couldn't sell them but let them rot/spoil while it is all worked out. Plus you can't do much shipping if no one will insure the goods.
The world has been very patience with this arrogant and whiny child now it is time to teach them to behave and that their actions have consequences.

@139 I don't know enough about these funds, but the principle that 'my enemy's enemy is my friend' is a very dangerous one so you are right to flag it up if these funds are indeed as bad as you say. All the same, interesting that the Argentinian response is somehow to find a link to the UK and try to blame us for it!

@36 You are on the wrong thread my friend. You're looking for a sane thread where contributors try to help each other. This is the 'hurl abuse at the other side' thread.

@114 I've been to Europe, Asia, Australisia, Africa and North America, lots and lots of different places - never made it to South America for the precise reason someone gave earlier, it's a long way and no specific reason to go there when there are still lots of other places I'd like to visit. It's true what they say, travel broadens the mind, which may be why your nickname, TiT, is so well deserved.

(except those who then say they have been everywhere but South America, because you know, it is not worthy of their presence... isn't funny how when they needed it for their argument, the argie-haters have been to every corner and nook of the country... but when they want to hand out a “subtle snipe” at Argentina the same people say South America is not somewhere they would ever travel to.... not important, unlike every other continent).

And yet look at how they either completely lie about everything or mislead in all they say?

I will now have to go for a while. It has been very educational. I came to this website having mostly no opinion on Brits, Americans or Europeans, and much criticism for CFK, and against the Falklands being harrased.

I remain steadfast in the Falklands not being harrased by us.

But I have learned to have deep animus and loathing for you old worlders, and north americans. I will no longer feel sorry for you when you are attacked by extremists, and will teach anyone who will listen to distrust you, and to treat you with contempt as you see us. Because there is nothing better about you and your countries, in fact worse, because you think you are better than others.

So thank you for that. Thank you for creating new enemies, because believe me, Argentina will be your enemy for a long, long time. Just pray you can keep your military, and that we can't, today, tomorrow, and 50 years from now.

I will never forget to dislike you.

To get back to the ship, whatever the politics, she is a fine looking vessel.
I have seen three Tall ship races and there is something emotive to see a tall ship in full sail. They belong out at sea.

I admit to being jealous of the Argentine having a ship like this. For a maritime nation like the UK, who built the finest clippers - Cutty Sark and Thermopylae - why could we not have built a modern version as a floating - and sailing -monument to our past.
It would give our shipyards - the few that are left - some well needed work.

@153 Tobias Scotland is still one of the leading countries for medical research.
Scotland still has the best quality of engineering (although the industry's being scaled down).
Scotland is still leading the world with renewable engineering projects.
Scotland, for its size, is the single most technically gifted population in the world- fact. The world envies our gift for excellency (just stating the truth without sounding arrogant)
Scotland is the country in the UK with the least debt, and only one with a budget surplus. Our country is far, far away from default.
On politics, just remember that most Scottish, and probably English too, opposed the current wars but were unable to change it as there weren't enough people protesting on the streets.
And to re-state, you are the uneducated one as you say that you hate ALL Europeans, not the ones who caused your so-called 'problems'. Not us.

    Well, back on topic.

Having slogged through most of the posts here I find nothing has changed.

    It's all the fault of:

    1) The holdouts taking advantage of that superb edifice of financial probity that is AG, AGAIN;
    2) Oh no, it's the Brits again letting the holdouts hole up in a tax haven. AG needs to be careful here, I would not be surprised if TMBOA had a few million stashed away there;
    2) Diplomatic immunity for a training ship: the flagship of the AG fleet no less. Oh, you just HAVE to laugh at that statement. The UK has the Victory as a notional flagship, a vessel with a tremendous record of stuffing the Spanish; when they found the courage to venture out of port, so frightened of the British were they! I think I see a parallel with AG here, only they send out a training ship full of diplomats!
    3) And let's not forget the USA who has judged against AG. How dare they do that to a sovereign country that has NEVER done anything wrong in the history of the world? Everyone knows how TMBOA TOLD the world at the UN how they had caused ALL the grief to AG. Do they not believe her?

Oh! I can't go on for the tears of laughter blinding the keyboard. How funny. How hilarious. How utterly and completely predictable.

I wonder who got the short straw to tell her the ship was impounded and had to endure a purple rage from TMBOA about 'can't you fcuking idiots get anything right? Have I got to do everything for you!!' - goes on until she blacks out due to oxygen starvation to what is laughingly referred to as her 'brain'.

But, Yankeeboy, me and others said this was coming: AND now it's here. Things are only going to get better (for us that is).

    LOL to the power googol!

    To all posters:
Do not be taken in by Guzz.
If by any chance he does hold Uruguayan papers it's not because he's a real Uruguayan but only because one of both of his parents were Uruguayan terrorists who helped in the attempts of the Tupamaros and their fellow travellers to bring down a democratic government by particularly cowardly murder, kidnapping, bank robberies, bombings, etc. Many of these enemies of democracy were granted political asylum in Sweden, which may be Guzz’s native country.
The present day MPP party in Uruguay has come a long way from its unsavoury origins in MLN-Tupamaro terrorism, which brought about an equally despicable dictatorship.
Guzz has stated he lives in Europe. This may well be true, as he is clearly not in touch with the man in the street in Uruguay, and cannot accurately put across current Uruguayan thought. His knowledge of present-day Uruguay is limited to what’s available on the internet.
On the other hand perhaps he has no Uruguayan forebears, and is merely a CFK hireling trolling out a living.

Just had a quick look at the Ghanean armed forces on Wiki.

If Tinman declares war , it would be an equal contest :

QUOTE : The Ghanaian Army relies on a mix of modern military technology and older varieties. While modern M16s and equipment are standard issue, much of the secondary equipment used by the Ghanaian military is generally older than that used in Western military forces, and Ghanaian troops frequently rely on British, Brazilian, Swiss, Swedish, Israeli, and Finnish weaponry.
The navy is only 2000 strong .
If Argentina still had the 25 de Mayo ( a former British carrier ) it would be a walkover .
TiT/2012/Malvinero where is your national pride?
Go to the Plaza and demand Kretina sends a task force now...
The boys may want cash up front , as the naval NCO's are out on strike as well now .

If Tinman declares war on Ghana it'd be interesting to see just what Argentina could actually do.

On the other hand Ghana is a commonwealth country, and could call on other members to support them should they be attacked.

Argentina's couldn't declare war, because none of their naval or air assets are capable of crossing the Atlantic (with the exception of the impounded vessel).

No the Argentine government and their supporters will resort to form and blame the big bad world for picking on them.

It will be interesting to see if they cough up the US$ 10 million to get their ship back.

As for national pride, the more the Argentine public allows this bunch of clowns to run their country, the more they realise that they no longer have any pride.

I don't know why the Argentine government thinks their debt will 'just go away if we pretend it isn't there'. Debt is a commodity and has been sold on for centuries. If there is even a chance it can be recovered the debt collectors will pursue it. In this case they are doing it legally.

I am not speaking for a single one of them but I am quite sure that they all have better things to do than worry about the shit that is sprouted on here. They have no need to defend their existence in a forum like this and it seems to me the ones who do, do it for its' humouristic qualities and nothing more, maybe I am wrong. All we see here is the same arguments being lost over and over again and then it degenerates into name-calling and moral posturing. If a Falklander were to approach me and tell me that I was doing damage and to please stop, then I would, I thought it was just fun watching and fueling childish antics.

Yes you can say anything you like, but then everyone has that right. You insult people then complain when they respond in a similar manner.

Perhaps you should try some reasoned arguments, instead of insults. Then people would respond in kind. Insult them and they'll respond in kind to that too.

You say no one tells you what to do. Well that isn't true. The tax man tells you to pay tax. The government tells you to abide by the laws of your country. Everyone in the world is told what to do by someone, somewhere along the line. If we didn't have this, anarchy would reign, and then you'd probably still be told what to do by whoever had the biggest gun. :)

But back to the thread. This is going to be a tricky test for CFK and her government. How they handle the matter will be closely observed by the international community and Argentine citizens.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Either they will pay the bond, or they will just have to accept that their ship now belongs to the bond holders.

If it is confiscated I am sure the £6.2 million pounds could be found to buy her off the creditors so she can be inducted into British service under a new name! I can think of a few good ones ... Has anybody bothered to explain to this chappy that on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being “yeah what-Ever” and 10 being “I'm gonna mind-ream you” that, “wimp” rates around 0.5 on the “annoyance” scale?

    Why 0.5 and not 1?

...because that (1) would be “Whimp”... (the american spelling obviously lessening the effect even further).

I mean, if you are going to take the time to insult somebody at least make it worthwhile.

Reminds me of a chap (from the USA) who, in the eraly days of the internet, came onto BBS and forums throwing around the term “Cheeky Monkey” at every Brit he could find.. absolutely CONVINCED that this (Cheeky Monkey) was THE ultimate insult in the British Isles..... and he wouldn't hear anything to the contrary.

Finally the story emerges: he's had a British guy living with his family for a year on some sort of Rotary youth exchange...and the Brit had been working on him all year, convincing him that this phrase (Cheeky Monkey) was the sort of thing that would get you shot if you so much as whispered it....

20 odd years later and I don't the poor chap has worked it out yet...

    Ah British humour.... :-)
