Brazil came out strongly in support of Argentina’s sovereignty claims over the Falklands/Malvinas Islands and criticized British military exercises in the Islands during his speech on Monday to the Americas Defence ministers’ conference taking place in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Read full article

Disclaimer & comment rulesThey still don't get it do they speak to the Islanders not the UK fuckwits!!!!! Why so worried about a self defence missle that has a range of 4 miles, hardly a threat to the South American mainland is it, unless the SSN is launching Tomahawks of course, OOPS did I say that
Oct 09th, 2012 - 04:35 am - Link - Report abuse 0They still haven't said what they're negotiating! If Argentina gets the islands, what do the islanders or the UK get in return?
Oct 09th, 2012 - 04:51 am - Link - Report abuse 0As repeated ad nauseam in the past on these boards, if the Argie constitution states the only outcome can be the total handover of the islands to them, then what point is there in talking at all?
Without resorting to being offensive or abusive, can someone from Argentina please respond to this with logic?
Everytime a Latam country does a live missle firing anywhere in the South Atlantic we should complain vigously about provocation over the Falkland Islands, this excludes rgenweener of course because I doubt if they could do one, they don't do regular military exercises either apparently :o ). And as for the Brazilian defence minister, he makes this statement whilst his warships are currently conducting Naval exercises, including live gun firings in the South Carribean with, wait for it HMS Dauntless, smacks of double standards to me, unless its of course just to shut his nuisance neighbours up........for now.
Oct 09th, 2012 - 05:20 am - Link - Report abuse 0The subject is off the table thanks to the USA, Canada and the Caribbean Islands. Brazil can rest easy that this 'peace area' is not being discussed and pretend to support their neighbours whilst plans for their nuclear submarines continue!

Gratuitous political rhetoric to be used as a salve to massage CK's ego and political stature; this technique is standard comment for all SA countries
Oct 09th, 2012 - 09:06 am - Link - Report abuse 0who have to deal with the person who is leading Argentina to economic failure and massive infation.
CK has never understood the game of chess and only thinks one move ahead without any consideration of ther knock-on effects of her decisions.
In the meantime, all SA countries will continue massaging her ego with gratuitous rhetoric concerning the Falklands and the islanders should understand this and not be concerned.
As Mr Celso Amorim has correctly said its very dangerous that a so little population launch missiles and perform Military Exercises in SA.
Oct 09th, 2012 - 09:32 am - Link - Report abuse 0The free western world should take note of that and send a strong message to the provocative Islanders, that such behaviour will not be tolerate by the democratic nations of SA and even military sanction could be applied.

@8 what a load of twaddle, if FI want's to conduct military excersises within it own territory then so be it, the rest of SA should mind it's own business.

Wonder if the cnut Amorim knows what is going on in his own department.
So, the Brazilian defence minister is now frightened like an Argie too, poor thing, of some defensive anti-aircraft missiles, which have a range of just a few miles, and which are hundreds of miles from Brazil? Presumably he's worried they might drift off course, be carried on a breeze and land somewhere in São Paulo?
Oct 09th, 2012 - 10:54 am - Link - Report abuse 0Don't the Brazilian military test any of their weapons? If Argentina had not invaded the Falkland Islands 1n 1982 in the first place there would be no British military training going on in the seccond place. If Argentina stopped it's aggression towards us we would not need the military presence of Great Britain in the third place.

Oct 09th, 2012 - 12:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@8 Dummy. The British forces are exercising. As they have every right to do. And it's not happening in South America, it's happening in the South Atlantic. As it has done every year for the last 30 years. Ever since argieland, without provocation or warning, invaded a group of peaceful islands. Perhaps argieland should remember that, after any armed conflict, any territory occupied by the victor belongs to the victor. As for democracy you don't know what it is and you don't have it. As witness your previous and current dictator's attempt to start a dynasty. But for NK's timely but overdue demise, the Ks would be swapping the presidency back and forth. But the Cream Cake will be next!
Oct 09th, 2012 - 12:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@17 Really? You mean you call yourself something else. But that's only to avoid confusion, isn't it? Let's see now. Nazi Germany used its own troops in Polish uniforms to provide an excuse for unprovoked military invasion. Japan carried out an unprovoked military attack on the United States military base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After the war German Nazi war criminals fled to, guess where? Argieland. Where they received a warm, friendly welcome because Peron thought that the Nazis were going to win the war and had been promised whatever territories he wanted from the defeated British Empire. Except it didn't work out like that and Peron had to do an abrupt about-turn and join the Allies. In the latter part of the 20th century, argieland started by establishing a covert and illegal naval base on Thule Island (British). It then carried out a clandestine, covert, illegal and unprovoked invasion of South Georgia (British). And then an illegal and unprovoked invasion of the Falkland Islands (British). During its occupation, it carried out many acts that were and are illegal under international law. And you are different from the Germany and Japan of the 30s and 40s....how?
DannyB and Gustbury- do get a grip with reality please! Brazil is your neighbour and needs to try and get along reasonably well with you - despite all the silly Arg inspired border and customs fracas that annoy Brazil.

You being islander are so Argentine like me!
There is a slight difference, gustbury, Islander1 lives where:
Inflation is 2% rather than 25%,
A person doesn't have to lock their car or home,
Everybody has the right to express themselves freely without fear of the AFIP,
Antbody can buy any currency they like without asking for permission,
They drive on the left,
Their official currency is Falkland pounds stirling,
There is no coercion by peronists or La Campora, etc.
So I think you are very out of touch with reality, gustbury, we live in a totally different world to Islander1, Monty69, Isolde, Joe Bloggs and the rest of the Falklanders, and unfortunately for us their world is a great deal better than ours is now and certainly as it will be in the near future!!!!!!!

How long will the cross colonial power in decline be able to maintain control over Malvinas? That´s the question.

Oct 09th, 2012 - 03:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0200years ago the world was full of imperialism - Spanish-British- French - Dutch - German - and that,s just a selection!
Events like 1770 when Spain threw the Brits out of the Islands and 1833 when the Brits threw out the militia(not civilians)0ut of what was to become the future Argentina - that was the way nations solved their problems in those days!
Do we re-write the entire world map? Give ALL South American nations back to the indigenous Indians and all you folks go back to Europe beacaues that was where your ancestors came from? Do the same with USA,Canada and Mexico etc? Send the folks who live in the Carribean back to Africa etc?
That is the logic of a TERRITORAL claim based on who claims who did what to who 200 or more years ago!!
Really I cannot think of a better way of starting World War 3 - can you?
Fortunatley we now live in the 21st century! Colonialism has gone
from where it was not wanted - and that includes the Islands.
Today the principles that guide the free civilized world are those of Human Rights! Would you deny us ours - to live in peace in the lands we have developed and built up over 200years, and to be governed by those we choose and freely elect?

What do you need to touch to understand the support is tangible?
@41 Entangled alliances means the US Gov has to maintain ambiguity much as it has to over the Republic of China but it is well known that the US supports the rights of the Taiwanese to their own sovereignty rather than living under Beijing's tank treads like Tibet has to. The US from a diplomacy standpoint has no problem with saying that Argentina and the UK talk. But it becomes clear that Argentina has no interest in talking as soon as they realize that they must talk to the people whose necks they stood on in 1982 when they nakedly violated their fundamental human rights. If Argentina cannot do that, then there is no point. It was clear in 82 that the US disfavored you imposing your dirty war and military dictatorship on a new group of people who were considerably more free than those who lived under the Junta - not to mention a people under the protection of a more reliable ally who didn't kidnap children of dissidents and give them to cronies or drop political opponents naked from helicopters in freezing water. And it's clear now that the views of the Falkland Islanders are to continue as is. That trumps all. You can talk, but you can't ignore the rights of the people you recently tried to crush. And if Argentina cannot talk to these people while at the UN as they refused to do this summer than they are clearly violating one of the key requisites of such talks, the will and interests of the inhabitants -- then it is clear that they have not changed since 1982 (especially now that they have a coin celebrating the Junta's forcing their dirty war down the Falkland Islander's throats).

Oct 09th, 2012 - 05:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Just for the record:
Brazil became independent to Portugal in 1822, after the event known as Grito de Ipiranga.
Argentina attempted repeatedly to take all Uruguay's territory several times in the 19th Century, unsuccessfully. The only arguably Uruguayan territory in Argentine hands today is the tiny island of Martín García, but it was not taken by force. It was negotiated away by Uruguay as part of the Treaty of the River Plate, in the 1970s.
As far as I know Argentina has been unsuccessful in taking land from Chile, and has never attempted to take any from Brazil. Paraguay did lose large tracts of its territory to Argentina after the War of the Triple Alliance.
The above, however, has nothing to do with the Falkland Islands, which are British territory and should remain so until the population decides otherwise.

Oct 09th, 2012 - 06:33 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Arrogance and delusions of their country's greatness appear to be a common flaw amongst the Argentine posters here.
The World Cup is 1000 times more important than even a Cricket Galactic final, rugby is a fringe sport in west Europe, Oceania, and South Africa. The olympics are full of drugs, cheating, and politics.
Oct 09th, 2012 - 06:41 pm - Link - Report abuse 0World Cup is the most pure measure. When Aliens land on Earth it will be at half time of a world cup final, not during a 6N or a t2o, or the Syncronized Swimming for quadraplegics.

Oct 10th, 2012 - 04:18 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Can anyone explain why Brazil continues to support Argentina after that, whilst stabbing us in the bac
There is a theory that has been mentioned on these posts which might be credible-SA countries 'support' the Argentine claim to the Falklands but apart from the Chav , do not seem to be offering any military hardware toward that cause.
So could it be that they want to egg Argentina on to attack the Falklands so that the UK will eliminate the threat (or at least reduce it by splashing a few aircraft, ships and airfields) so that Argentina is less of a threat to its neighbours?
Without any hassle to Chile, Brazil etc?
if it happend, and argiland was cohersed,
Oct 10th, 2012 - 05:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0then we supose that with the elimination of argentina.
Brazil can thus go forward, without that irritating little puppie yelping at its heels.

No one is inciting Argentina to attack any one. You are delusional since you are far away from the scene and know nothing of reality or the situation. You and many on this forum are the only ones hoping for a break out of war. If you like it so much I invite you to lead the charge. You are filled with hatred and resentment. That is why you only can think of war and violence as a solution to a problem that you, the UK started and can’t seem to come to terms with reality that the other party involved has stood up to you, and will continue to do so.
Oct 10th, 2012 - 05:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Your comments and participation in this forum clearly demonstrate that you cannot tolerate that Argentina has recently reminded you before the International community as to what your obligations are it and you can only respond with threats, and more threats. Oct 10th, 2012 - 06:53 pm - Link - Report abuse 0you only can think of war and violence as a solution
Wrong.
Argentina thought of violence and war as a solution in 1982.
The only way violence would be used by the UK in this context is if Argentina attacked the Falkland Islands .
Argentina has recently reminded you before the International community as to what your obligations are
The UK's obligations are to respect the Islanders rights under the United Nations Charter to self-determination and to resist Argentine imperialism.
Also to respect the Islanders interests which Argentina fails to.
The UN resolutions ask Argentina and the UK to talk.
So the UK passes the Argentine Government onto the democratically elected Falkland Islands Government, whom the Argentines refuse to talk to. For the UK to talk to Argentina would be to deny the Falkland Islanders the right to self-determination, so the Uk would be acting against the UN Charter.
The resoultions also strongly infer independence (read them). Since 1982 the constitution of the Falkland Islands Government has changed 3 times to devolve more autonomy to the FIG-quite obviously heading towards,(ie not away from), independence, whilst Argentina wants to make the Falklands a province, which is not in the Islanders 'interests, and the Argentine solution is not moving the FI towards the Independence direction.

@109 Let's get a few things straight. We call argieland a nothing place because........it's a nothing place. And sinking. Now, I don't use multiple accounts. I just tell it like it is. And the way it is is this: Britain took possession of the Falklands in 1690 and made its formal claim of sovereignty in 1765. Nobody objected because there was no-one to object. Even the French, arriving in 1764, realised that they couldn't claim sovereignty because of prior British possession for 74 years. Gloss over the subsequent 217 years and Britain fought a war, prompted by attempted theft, and won it. International law from time immemorial says that, when you fight a war, whatever you end up in possession of is yours. Case closed. And yet we get argtards and their lickspittle friends on here trying to set all that at naught. We're not going to lose another 255 servicemen. So if the argtards won't see reason, we're going to have to move to a position where there are no argtards to be unreasonable. At this stage, we are trying to make them see sense. And even the most mild-mannered person will eventually see red when an ignoramus continues to argue that black is white. But your final statement is correct.
@117 I'll be glad to lead the charge. Will you have the guts to be there to receive it? But perhaps you have trouble with history? The other party didn't stand up, they lay down, i.e. surrendered. We know OUR obligations. YOU seem to have forgotten YOURS.
@125 Happy to meet you on a real battlefield, mouthy. Where I can rip your guts out and make you eat them!

Oct 15th, 2012 - 10:56 am - Link - Report abuse 0As you haven't condemned the violence by Argentina in 1982 yet , it is you surrounded by smoke blown up from your backside.
Like it when Argentine soldiers were nasty to Falkland Islands children and defenceless Falkland Islanders on Pebble Island in 1982 did you?
Different matter when the SAS arrived wasn't it?
Its different for you when the Argentines perpetrate violence like rubbing out thousands of their own people and invading a practically defenseless people in 1982 isn't it? Then some of that smoke blowing around you hides Argentine violence.
Your country's problem is you don't have the guts to fight the British, because your country only likes violence towards native indians and people who can't defend themselves.
Its a different matter when Britain turns up to give Argentine bullies a good kicking, then all of a sudden Argentina is a peace loving natiion. Pffffffttt!
@ 126 The fact that the Argentine government refuses to talk, let alone try to woo the Falkland Islanders shows their intentions for the disputed territory. If they won't talk to them now, once they are hypothetically annexed there is serious doubt that they will listen to their interests once they are part of Argentina. Whereas London is giving Stanley considerable latitude in self rule for a colonial overlord, Buenos Aires has proven their jackbooted management policy in 1982, celebrates that policy with a coin today in 2012, and makes it clear that the wishes of the locals are of no consequence in any discussions regarding sovereignty today in violation of the UN Charter which trumps any politicized resolutions (which even then, make it explicit that the interests of the Islanders is critical to any deal). If that ain't colonialism, someone do tell me what is. (And of course now that the referendum has them scared out of their pants, it is no longer about colonialism based on Estreme's laughable statements at the UN but some double speak that ends with the land is ours, the people's will doesn't really exist -- no different than their stance in 82.)

Oct 16th, 2012 - 11:04 am - Link - Report abuse 0Interersting that because the Islanders were not abused by the British the don't count as colonised anymore, but the RGs still peddle the lie that the civilian population in 1833 were kicked off by the Royal Navy. 1833 needs to be shown graphically to the UN because it is the only tenous argument the Argentines now deploy, ie the transplanted bullsh1t.
Viva Argentina!

Oct 17th, 2012 - 10:35 am - Link - Report abuse 0Clyde, you really shouldn't stoop to this level. The pair of you sound like five-year-olds. It's best to ignore posters with nothing worthwhile to say; to the contrary we get more shit than substance in the thread.
The idea IS to show how stupid it is !!!!!!

Cheers!
