When you talk to ordinary people in Argentina they talk about their free society and lack of rules with great pride. Taking away freedom of speech will not sit well with the majority. They were easy to manipulate, much in the same way it was easy for Castro to improve the lives of Cubans. Starting from zero it is easy to improve the lives of the poor and disaffected.
Argentines are not so desperate, they have pride and a high opinion of themselves (albeit inflated). They have become poorer, not richer under CFKC and they will continue to become poorer as her unfathomable economic policies wreak havoc. They are not dissimilar to most people in that let things slide until they are personally affected - referred to as 'hapathy' - but they are feeling affected. Now they are looking up and not liking what they see. I say we should encourage them.
Well, 8N is coming. She didn't listen to the last cascerola...left BA for that one. Maybe this time she will go to VeneCuba to celebrate with her buddy. And not be allowed back into the country.

In the UK we don't have state run media groups.
In the UK we don't have blanket propaganda broadcasts by our leading political party.
In the UK all our politicians can be interviewed by the press.

It's always a good idea to break up monoplies, especially when they control almost every aspect of the media, television, radio, newspaper, and internet. After all, the public generally owns the airwaves and should determine who gets to use them. Anytime the rich can control all the information, it can't be good for society as a whole. If Goldman Sachs owns 20% of anything there has to be serious corruption going on.

The Argentine population needs to wake up and tell CFK she is no longer required. If Argentina then used it's foreign currency reserves to pay the debts it owes to the United States and other countries, then I'm sure they would be able to invest in getting Argentina back on its feet. You have plenty of resources, but sadly the politicians are preventing you from using them.
If only you would set aside your claim on the Falklands, not renounce it - just set it aside, then I'm sure that the Falkland Islanders would trade with you and cooperate to help Argentina exploit the oil reserves. It was a unilateral decision on Argentina's part to end the co-operation with the Islands that started with Menem. Through that short-sighted decision, Argentina has lost out financially.

Do you think the State should choose who gets to print and show you news and entertainment? Don't you think that is a bad thing? Don't you think they will promote shows that help their positions to keep them in power? Don't you think they will squash news that is harmful to them or their positions?

All of their unsold goods they have been making to keep people working instead of protesting is about done. Every single bank is insolvant but still required to make loans to cronies. So I think their system, again whatever you want to call it, is near total collapse.
Totalitarianism has the benefit of controlling the population for a pretty long time but I think it has reached the end of the rope both in China and Argentina.
Democracy is a form of government while Capitalism is an economic system. Your problem Yankeeboy is you don't seem to know the difference. Capitalism will work under almost any governmental system. Also, i think many of your post seem to indicate you'd be an excellent fan of Totalitarianism.

They are in collapse and they have no idea how to fix it without giving up the State control.

By contrast the default setting of most English people is to be highly critical of their country and government, unless they have travelled and can see how bloody good they have it in comparison to developing countries.
If people want to buy Clarin newspaper they are exercising their right to do so. If you take it away you are taking away their right to choose. Argentines, in general, don't like having their rights taken from them.
China is NOT a capitalist system at all. They may be able to copy capitalist attributes, but they are not a capitalist society. The Chinese system will never “foster the entrepreneurial spirit” that makes innovations possible, because the drearily unimaginative state is the “majority owner” of the economy. China has been able to “shoehorn a crude version of a capitalist financial system into its state-controlled economy and get some good results.” (Mainly because of lack of controls (lead in toys, tainted baby milk, inferior quality, child labor, substandar working conditions and wages) But it will never be able to replicate the breakthroughs that are the hallmarks of a true free-market system. Capitalism created electricity, the light bulb, radios, television, computers, automobiles and even the Iphones.

In the US there is the post office, Amtrak, public electric utilities, military hospitals, libraries, public schools and universities, FAA, Highways, police and fire, airports, traffic control and security, medicare, social security, etc. There is no such thing as a “pure” Capitalistic system.

This new law leans heavily on European jurisprudence and replaces a previous law enacted by the last Argentinean military dictatorship in 1980.
So......, yes I “Think” this new law is a giant leap forward for the freedom and democratization of information in Argentina.

The Argentine media after government intervention are more honest and are held accountable for corruption, something the UN and IMF can't say about most of their member nations. They have no education, since argies don't terminate universities, that's why there are so many foreigners from other SA-countries. Still they don't work as gardeners and maids like in USA, since we have that stupid system. Basically i don't have anything against the social-benefits, but they should only be meant for local people. I know couple of cases how argies are living in Sweden and Norway doing nothing, just using government money. Heck, they don't even speak English nor the local language and still they were given a visa. WTF!!!

Following the posts on Mercopress for a few weeks, it became clear that there was an organised war of disinformation to turn the public against the Falklands, in order to falsely validate Argentina's claims.
Just refuting the troll crap on this site alone, has kept me busy enough.
Thanks for the 'heads up' though. Perhaps I'll take a look at Penguin News.

It is a masterpiece quite unworthy of the present day AG government and reminiscent of when AG could actually make something of lasting value.
It has also had a relatively recent refit.
There are a number of sail training associations around the world that would welcome this ship albeit with a real name on the hull, rather than the discredited one it presently has.

However his homosexual outbursts indicate same sex sexual abuse and his anger to the white man also suggests his long internalized anger of being indigenous SA. I bet his aggressive nature is subdued in social setting in Canada among his teen peers. There are plenty of studies that suggest that children breast feed have less behavior problems and adopt to societal norms with less aggression than those bottle feed or weaned too soon.

I live in the states (Cali), work for a financial related company, visit argentina when we can afford it
(my wife is from a small community in Argentina, and recently moved to the US).
I would say with the political climate being what it is right now, we have decided
to delay plans to go there in January - we are just not sure if we'll have trouble travelling with our
personal electronics, US Currency, or if her travel status back to the U.S. will be in question on return.
BTW: My last visit to Argentina I was stopped and detained, my bags emptied, money counted (thank god i didnt have
much) and signed a form saying i was detained, they found nothing and have a nice day (in spanish) this was in Rosario..
Was followed by their police/customs the entire time at the airport with a guard stationed within 20 feet anywhere i
decided to go (which wasnt very far considering rosario is small, but where i went, they went also..)
I know it sounds paranoid, but the old adage is 'better safe than sorry'..
IC....I assumne you are American like me. My wife is a portena, I go to Buenos AIres at least every year....when were you last there? I've never had touble at customs, the airport or with police. This must have been very recent...like the last couple of months?

I was there this February/March. Perhaps it's the smaller cities/towns where they are more suspect. I'm a strict debit/credit card user so I really do not carry cash. I get loacl pesos when I there for cabs and tips. Funny how you can pay at a restuarant with your card but they really want the tips in cash. Probably so the owners don't screw them. Ever flash the greenbacks at them? I was a Loi's once and went to tip the bell boy and said “ lo siento, Yo solo tengo dolares” man his eyes lit up like the sun. Was suppose to head there next month but have to put it off until January, but the wife is heading back.

IC....another thing, I am not sure how often you are there, but when you take a cab, especially in Buenos Aires, don't close the door like it's an AMerican car. Those cabs are tin boxes and when you slam it the doors nearly tear off. The driver will damn near shoot you. ALso only take a taxi with a radio (2 way) in it. The other are have a higher likihood of being corrupt or worse.
