The Argentine tight-lipped ‘political’ delegation sent to Ghana to try and achieve the release of the Navy’s flagship ARA Libertad impounded by a US based fund and confirmed by an Accra court, is returning to Buenos Aires empty handed not before experiencing a tense incident with the crew of the vessel docked in Tema. So the Argies wanted the the government of Ghana to twist the arm of the judiciary. That is like saying “we know you are more corrupt that us and you don't care about the rule of law so please reject your law and let us have that boat”.

How insulting can the Argies get? Have they not heard of Magna Carta

They left empty handed. Chuckle Chuckle!

Apparently the political delegation was unable to convince the Ghana government ‘to twist the arm’ of the courts and two diplomats were left in Accra

Apparently after the visitors left there was a “sigh of relief” because some members of the crew confessed to the officers they wanted “to punch them in the face”.

the story that just keeps giving lol

I wonder if the Argentine “political” delegation took the bribe dollars back to Bs. As. with them or if the Ghanian politicos relived them of their heavy burden?????

And just when you thought Argentina couldn't be embarrassed anymore...

So basically they tried to bribe the Ghanaians, and failed.

Who is CFK gonna blame this time? Apparently nothing that goes wrong in Argentina is her fault despite the fact that she's President.

Putridjelly: Madame President, the invasion is off, until we can recover your flagship.
CFK:I thought you said our Pampers jet can take on the evil English?
PutridJelly: Er, I asked the pilots and they said they wanted some Typhoons.
CFK: Well easy we take out another loan, buy the Eurofighters from England then just don't pay them back.
Putridjelly: Well we are brassy enough to try anything but what about some Astute submarines?
CFK: No way, I want my overseas money stash overseas in case we get kicked out.
Putrid jelly: OK, can we salvage the Santa Fe?

We salute you CFK and keep up the good work meet this criminals in the international courts. And remember that this bastards already have all their money back that's why we don't have it. And our resources is for Argentina to have jobs not for them to theft. I also demand Argentina to bring up the royalties collected for mining. I did once go through the coatings of developing a nuclear weapon programme with Pirat-hunter once.

My estimates of developing, building weapons and delivery systems, security of the weapons against terrorists, and general maintenance of those weapons and delivery systems would cost several billion US dollars, with an approximate US$20,000,000 annual maintenance cost.

If Argentina ever did get nuclear weapons hey probably wouldn't maintain them, or their delivery systems, jut like they haven't maintained their naval vessels.

PH is a deluded boy. It's easy to talk the talk, but not so easy to walk the walk.

I am sure that the crew will take Mr. Singer up on his invitation back to their homeland. I hear he has also guaranteed the port charges if he gets the boat. Pretty soon Argentina is going to have to pay that bill and at U$50k/day it adds up pretty quickly. I heard the navy is already freaking out about the bill.

You have to feel for all those cadets... the biggest adventure of the lives thus far totally screwed up by their 'commander in thief' and her cronies.

I would query the wharfage cost of $50,000 a day. That is usually tonnage based and I would have expected it to be waived on a courtesy call by a navy ship. Maybe it is charged on a sliding scale.... first week free, $2k a day second week, $4k the next, $16k the next..... that would bankrupt Casa Rosada muy pronto....

It's a valuable lesson that even Europeans are slowly starting to comprehend: The PROBLEM - is the Wall Street mafia in New Yaaark. The Europeans underestimated them - while that Mafia sold crap as investment for governments and investors in Europe, (but also in the USA!). In the meantime - Latin American governments had learned from their own gullible mistakes in the past century - and had stopped listening to “good advice” from Wall Street “banksters” and the U.S. government. That's why most nations in Latin America today have positive growth, and increased social benefits. Now of course “British LIBOR Banks” are also being dragged into federal courts in the U.S. and in Europe....and that will be far more costly to “Great Britain” then a mere sailing ship or $ 320 million!

Sadly, international law does not permit countries to sieze other's warships. There are no exceptions. I expect Ghana got a deal where their BS debt was cancelled or refi'd in return for going after the Libertad.

Looks like Argentina is going to have to cut that ship out, since Ghana has committed a clear belligerent act and has refused peaceful opportunities to clear up the situation.

Think: Despite both tall ships being tarnished due to the incredible  poor leadership of the Argentinian and Chilean Admiralties, they remain an important symbols of our countries, promoting peace and solidarity.  Look at the number countries with cadets aboad now.  It is one of the most valuable training methods known to promote unity worldwide.

I can perfectly imagine the frustration and anger of the crew and officers caught up in this mess.

What sent a chill to the back of my neck was to read: “The court further ordered the Harbour Master, whether by himself or his assigns or agents, to preserve the presence of the ship and also go on board to take possession of all its mandatory documents.”  For a commanding officer to surrender his ship's documents is one step below having to strike the ship's colors, which is a disgrace.  The captain and first officer will be humiliated.  I feel so sorry for them.

I wish I'd got up earlier today. I would have had so much longer to laugh at argieland's ineptitude, stupidity, embarrassment and failure. I reckon that, when you don't have diplomatic relations with another state, it's not a good idea to set off to another continent with a fanfare of publicity about your intention to get a court of law overruled. If said political delegation had departed, and arrived in Ghana, in a low-key, unnoticed fashion, it wouldn't have been quite so embarrassing to get the bum's rush.

@13 Well, alex, I see you're off on your usual hunt for a nuclear defence. Why don't you pop over the border and ask the Americans if they have anything they could sell you cheap. Given your country's expertise with munitions, we can confidently expect your “nuclear defence” to blow the place up. Saving us the trouble.
@32 I read your comment with interest. My initial impression was that it was going to be sane and intelligent. It wasn't. But perhaps you gave yourself a “get-out”. That's why most nations in Latin America today have positive growth, and increased social benefits.“ If only you'd inserted ”except argieland“!

@50 Who let them in? Wouldn't they sort of stand out?
@54 ”National security”? Since when has argieland had anything anyone would want?
@55 You don't have a lot of hope of entering the club of First World Nations. You need to look up what it means. Try this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-world_nations On the other hand, if you stop kowtowing to argieland..........?

    Well Conqueror,
If you consider the current economic growth here in Chile with our very independent Central Bank and open private investment opportunities (exports are tax free) we seem to be on our way.
I made a typo on the last post that We lack nuclear power only because of our concern for earthquakes like in Japan.
    Cheers!

    @61 Well Chicureo

If you had any guts (aka courage, balls, integrity, honesty, responsibility), you would understand that entering the club of First World Nations requires a little more than transferring your economy from goods to services. Why is it that LatAm countries can't understand “maturity”. Chile may be “advanced” in terms of “goods”. Otherwise they are shit. Democratic? Only when it suits! Free? Except that it has to obey argieland. And we mustn't forget that exchanging students with the Falklands isn't allowed. Goodbye Chile. You are “owned”. Will you be “Chile” province? Cowards!

“There's a few thousands of illegal west africans in Argentina”

Argentina is and has always been an immigrant country, where nobody is illegal:
