The Argentine tight-lipped ‘political’ delegation sent to Ghana to try and achieve the release of the Navy’s flagship ARA Libertad impounded by a US based fund and confirmed by an Accra court, is returning to Buenos Aires empty handed not before experiencing a tense incident with the crew of the vessel docked in Tema. They left empty handed. Chuckle Chuckle!
Apparently the political delegation was unable to convince the Ghana government ‘to twist the arm’ of the courts and two diplomats were left in Accra
Oct 19th, 2012 - 05:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Apparently after the visitors left there was a “sigh of relief” because some members of the crew confessed to the officers they wanted “to punch them in the face”.

I wonder if the Argentine political delegation took the bribe dollars back to Bs. As. with them or if the Ghanian politicos relived them of their heavy burden?????

Who is CFK gonna blame this time? Apparently nothing that goes wrong in Argentina is her fault despite the fact that she's President.

Putridjelly: Well we are brassy enough to try anything but what about some Astute submarines?
CFK: No way, I want my overseas money stash overseas in case we get kicked out.

Can't you see it, most of the topics on here have nothing to do with the Falklands just your own failure across the civilised world, but you then turn it round to be about the Falklands. Train crash (falklands fault) Ghana (falklands fault), Tinman a tit (falklands fault), Harvard embarrassment (falklands fault), Dollar clamp ( falklands fault), plastic sugery not working (falklands fault) etc etc etc, yada yada boring twats grow up and do something about it instead of gobbing off, and I don't mean whinging to Nato or the C24,25, 26, red cross, SC, blue peter, newsround etc etc, faggots!

Oct 19th, 2012 - 07:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0My previous post was incomplete so I'll start again.
1. You can't 'kidnap' a ship.
2. You won't be saving taxpayers money if you're being hit a $50,000 a day port fees.
3. You can't build a nuclear defence programme with $20 million.
4. You're a tit!
it makes me laugh the twat thinks nuclear weapons are the answer to his deluded problems, we could launch 1 (one) missle 12 independant warheads and wipe the arseholes off the face of the earth, 90 million a missle, cheap at half the price if you ask me, my point is people like pirate munter have no idea what they wish for, and sometimes what you wish for comes true. Standby for some rhetoric and complete crap.
Oct 19th, 2012 - 07:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I did once go through the coatings of developing a nuclear weapon programme with Pirat-hunter once.
Oct 19th, 2012 - 07:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0My estimates of developing, building weapons and delivery systems, security of the weapons against terrorists, and general maintenance of those weapons and delivery systems would cost several billion US dollars, with an approximate US$20,000,000 annual maintenance cost.
If Argentina ever did get nuclear weapons hey probably wouldn't maintain them, or their delivery systems, jut like they haven't maintained their naval vessels.
PH is a deluded boy. It's easy to talk the talk, but not so easy to walk the walk.

Oct 19th, 2012 - 07:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I am sure that the crew will take Mr. Singer up on his invitation back to their homeland. I hear he has also guaranteed the port charges if he gets the boat. Pretty soon Argentina is going to have to pay that bill and at U$50k/day it adds up pretty quickly. I heard the navy is already freaking out about the bill.

Oct 19th, 2012 - 08:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I would query the wharfage cost of $50,000 a day. That is usually tonnage based and I would have expected it to be waived on a courtesy call by a navy ship. Maybe it is charged on a sliding scale.... first week free, $2k a day second week, $4k the next, $16k the next..... that would bankrupt Casa Rosada muy pronto....
It's a valuable lesson that even Europeans are slowly starting to comprehend: The PROBLEM - is the Wall Street mafia in New Yaaark. The Europeans underestimated them - while that Mafia sold crap as investment for governments and investors in Europe, (but also in the USA!). In the meantime - Latin American governments had learned from their own gullible mistakes in the past century - and had stopped listening to good advice from Wall Street banksters and the U.S. government. That's why most nations in Latin America today have positive growth, and increased social benefits. Now of course British LIBOR Banks are also being dragged into federal courts in the U.S. and in Europe....and that will be far more costly to Great Britain then a mere sailing ship or $ 320 million!
Oct 19th, 2012 - 08:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I feel sorry for the crew who are told nothing about the situation, I am not surprised they are angry but the worst is still to come when they get back home and are paraded as heroes before CFK that will be a true humiliation

I say:
The “Libertad”, pretty as She is, is NOT a national symbol.
It’s no more then a symbol of the privileged military elite.
A symbol, many of us would be happy to see disappear.
Besides; the Libertad (as her sister Esmeralda) is stained with the blood of opponents to the tyranny….
The Plan Condor was to involve every branch of the Armed Farces in the killings…. and so it did.
Anyhow…. It seems that finally that pretty ship is fulfilling a useful mission…..
Any defeat to the “Vulture Funds” would be a victory for the progressive forces all over the World.
Sadly, international law does not permit countries to sieze other's warships. There are no exceptions. I expect Ghana got a deal where their BS debt was cancelled or refi'd in return for going after the Libertad.
Oct 19th, 2012 - 09:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Looks like Argentina is going to have to cut that ship out, since Ghana has committed a clear belligerent act and has refused peaceful opportunities to clear up the situation.

It seems they weren't terribly impressed with the argument that signing an agreement to waive sovereign immunity doesn't count if you're Argentina.
Think: Despite both tall ships being tarnished due to the incredible poor leadership of the Argentinian and Chilean Admiralties, they remain an important symbols of our countries, promoting peace and solidarity. Look at the number countries with cadets aboad now. It is one of the most valuable training methods known to promote unity worldwide.
Oct 19th, 2012 - 10:33 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I can perfectly imagine the frustration and anger of the crew and officers caught up in this mess.
What sent a chill to the back of my neck was to read: The court further ordered the Harbour Master, whether by himself or his assigns or agents, to preserve the presence of the ship and also go on board to take possession of all its mandatory documents. For a commanding officer to surrender his ship's documents is one step below having to strike the ship's colors, which is a disgrace. The captain and first officer will be humiliated. I feel so sorry for them.
I wouldn't worry about the cadets. Ghanaian ladies are some of the most beautiful in West Africa!

Keep your arrogance to your military might. When it comes to actually producing industry, Chile is an utter failure. Once copper fades as a valuable, what the heck is there left?
I think its great that this vulture will keep the ship just as long as the courts gives us a receipt for the 20.000.000.00 $ dollars they originally asked for ransom, mean while Argentine would be well advice to work on building a nuclear defence program and end the theft of The Argentine resources by mining corporates as well as foreign land owners. National security should come first.

Our economy is too dependent on world copper prices, but we continue to diversify into a wide range of valuable exports. In the past 30 years we've paid off our international debts and the level of poverty has dropped while the middle class has grown. the Chilean instfrasture has drastically imoproved and our. FOUR errors this time. I should start thinking Think, whether it was a good idea to take the piss out of me when I was being open and honest about learning Spanish.
I wish I'd got up earlier today. I would have had so much longer to laugh at argieland's ineptitude, stupidity, embarrassment and failure. I reckon that, when you don't have diplomatic relations with another state, it's not a good idea to set off to another continent with a fanfare of publicity about your intention to get a court of law overruled. If said political delegation had departed, and arrived in Ghana, in a low-key, unnoticed fashion, it wouldn't have been quite so embarrassing to get the bum's rush.
Oct 20th, 2012 - 12:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@13 Well, alex, I see you're off on your usual hunt for a nuclear defence. Why don't you pop over the border and ask the Americans if they have anything they could sell you cheap. @32 I read your comment with interest. My initial impression was that it was going to be sane and intelligent. It wasn't. But perhaps you gave yourself a get-out.
