If you have ever been to the States and travelled widely you can have an appreciation of their problem: they want to be President, of the USA and the rest of the world comes with it; at the moment.
TMBOA is head and shoulders MORE uneducated than any of the present crop of American politicians: and that’s saying something!
What really pisses TMBOA off however, is Romney’s wife has got more money with Singer than she has in offshore funds.
If, for the only thing that Romney will be an asset to the UK, I hope he defeats OBarmy, the first Muslim POTUS, whether he knows it or not.

I agree with your description of US Presidents.
The truth, I feel, is that none of them have any personality (just like the current crop of UK politicians). What the US and the world needs is a President with personality.
To paraphrase the late great Douglas Adams, a good President distracts the people from their problems and hide the people who actually run the country from view. The more outrageous and bizarre a President is, the better they are at their job.
So, the other day I was watching 'A View to a Kill' and thought: “Wouldn't Grace Jones make a kick-ass President!”
Fierce (I wouldn't like to get on the wrong side of her), bizarre and completely outrageous.
I mean, how many other US Presidents would be able to hula-hoop and sing at the same time?
I'd certainly vote for her, and I'm not even a US citizen. World President perhaps? ;)

Okay they sort of do in the UK, but it's only because they get the holidays off and get presents and chocolate, and can lounge around eating a hearty meal, watching the Queens Speech on TV and the Sound of Music (twice an hour!), and stuff like that.

@19 I think one of the problems is we look at the US as one country when in fact it is incredibly diverse. Choosing an electable candidate in more akin to trying to find someone acceptable to the whole of Europe. Image that. No don't it is too awful.

I have to say Obama has been a bit of a disappointment. But in his defence I would say that the Republicans had already driven the economy off a cliff and Obama has been left trying to prevent it reaching the bottom of the crevice. And if you follow US political process you know that the Republicans have spent four years preventing any progress even if they agree with it in principle. It is childish and they are so caught up in the game they have forgotten they are there to serve the people of the US.

He has been a terrible President and I hope to see him living in Hawaii or Europe in Feb.
CFK should really learn to keep her mouth shut. I am sure Mrs. Romney has no idea what Singer invests in or cares but to have a Prez of a SA country even mention it makes CFK look really inept and petty.
I just wish they'd hurry up and get this election over with. I'm bored to tears with it now. It also irritates me that world affairs are often put on hold until after the US election.

I am very disappointed. He is an outright liar for starters about everything he said he did in Massachusetts. I always chuckle when he says he balanced budgets year after year as governor,......of course.....it's massachusetts law to have a balances budget without deficit borrowing. And the Adams Scholarship that is tuition free college for highest scoring students....we he failed to tell you that is tuition per credit costy only makes up 10% of the per credit cost and does not cover fees. Meaning the cost per credit to a state college is 500 per credit with $ 50 per credit in tuition and 450 per credit in fees. The reason they did this is because ROmney passed laws in his budgets that the state takes 80% of tuition from state college to go into the general fund leaving the colleges high and dry because he wanted to wipe the concept of public colleges from Massachusetts. The Board of Regents changes to structure so the states takes a minimal amount for state colleges. And thats why that Adams Scharlorship Means shit, all my kids got it and it means nothing.

Looking in, from next door, I agree with you, Elaine.
Obama looks like the most sensible man they have had as President in 20 years. IMO He truly seems to want to serve the people and responsibly administer the USA.
He inherited a financial disaster and the Republicans did everything to hobble his efforts at economic reform and universal health care - the two things that would benefit 90% of the US population.
I agree with what other posters have written too, though.
The US “2-Party System” has grown so adversarial now, it does not work.
How responsible was it that Clinton was deliberately prevented from getting anything done, by the Republicsn Whiewater sideshow.

Troy, we have other partys but they are small. Our system does not pormote multiple party's as the require a certain percentage to even get into a debate, so we actually discxourgae other party's. Americans have very short memories in the polls.
As for US corporations, they are really multi-nationals and most are cash rich if you look at their balancesheets. They inadvertently stumbled onto something. They found that they can cut back on the workforce, increase workloads and maintain and in some cases increase worker productively for fear of losing their jobs. Why hire 5 people when 4 can do the same work?
See, I would like to have hugh corporate tax rates on the books, but decrease to the lowest rates in the world based in capital expenditures and the number of employees hires in the USA. But to anwser your question.....corporations for the most part are fine and dandy.
I like many Americans are ready to focus on the USA and say to fuck with the rest of the world, our soldiers are tired of being shipped off, our citizens are tired of helping other countries, we are tired of supporting illegal immigrants, ....at any rate.....back on topic
