HappyBirthday!!!! I'm sure everyone in Argentina will want to be out on the streets celebrating this most historic of days!!!

TMBOA / Ol' Turkey Neck / KFC / The Harpy should declare a national holiday so everyone can have a day of and think about the money that they would like to have spent in a country that no longer cares for them.

“There is no dollar clamp” - are there a pre-defined number of times CFK has to say this for Argentines to believe it to be true?

I suggest you all do your own research - go and buy some dollars to prove it isn't true.

“Do Brits trade in dollars within the UK” - if we want to yes - though there's no particular need to.

So your housing market uses the dollar as currency of exchange? That's bullshit, and you know it. Always these Vrits with their “do as I say, not as I do”.

Watch the pesification happen. Cry if need be.

@6 If our currency was as crap as yours then yes we would use dollars. Since it is stable and inflation is low and we have a AAA rating compared to a B for Argentina, then no need. Do you have any other deflections from the mess you are in or are you going to address the issue instead?

There is no need or desire of people in the UK to use dollars in the housing market.

It's not the rest of the world that is pushing the Argentinian people to use dollars in the housing market, it has been the wish of the Argentinian people to use dollars.

It makes no difference to any one outside of Argentina as to what currency the Argentinian people use for internal transactions.

External trade is a different matter though and for Argentina it will depend on what what the peso is actually worth on the exchange market.

“There is no need or desire of people in the UK to use dollars in the housing market.”

Respect the Argentines that obviously thinks the same about dollars in the Arg housing market...

I'm quite sure the peso will gain in value as soon as it takes over the areas dominated by the dollar :)

The people in the UK are free to use dollars if they wish, there is no control on their purchasing of dollars, and there is no need for them to purchase dollars on the black market.

Unfortunately for the Argentinians that wish to use dollars it is no longer an option for them, for those who wish to use dollars they would have to purchase most of these dollars on the black market.

There is little chance of the Argentinian peso taking over any areas “dominated by the dollar”.

@8 S&P and Fitch rate UK AAA while Moody rate it Aaa. If you can find a credible agency with a lower rating please post a source, otherwise we'll be forced to add lying to your cv.

We are talking about current Argentinian dollar clamp.

You bring up a stupid comment like crying, and explain it with an equally poor explanation.

Many of SA countries may be doing well, but I don't think that that could be equally said of Argentina, this dollar clamp and the current administration is doing them no favours.

So tell me then, what is this new-found interest of Argentine well-being of yours all about?
Why do you care all of the sudden?
Why didn't you care during the dictatorships?
Why didn't you lot speak up against the sell-out of our countries?

I'll tell you why, it's because you lot gained from it.
Now you do care, and I know why as well, it's because it's hurting your pockets.

    @42

I'm watching, and it's almost as funny as watching Argentina squander it's minutes on the Earth. It's economy is slowing, and debt is growning much like most of the rest of the world; as much as they believe they are all mighty and powerful, they are heavily dependent on everyone else buying their cheap and nasty tat. Not to mention all the controversys that are coming out of the wood work suggesting that China could well be in the stum more than they let on. Their rail network is a prime example of that. Not that you would know what that is; I guess that you don't even know what a train looks like these days since they are always on strike!

Which 5 main chinese cities are actually bankrupt yet still supported by the government? How many airlines in china are privatley owned? How is the media contolled? How many business related ripts are there in guangzhou yearly (average)?

China China China, you talk like it is a paradise and the saviour of South America.

It's banks are bankrupt, huge industries are overstocked but refuse to layoff and 100s of millions are still destitute! The population is old and too many boys so they can't reproduce. It is a mess and they don't know how to fix it.

it just like everyone talking about Japan in the 80s and Russia in the 90 sand then India/Brazil in 00. All media hype with nothing backing them up. Basically they were all overheated economies that have now faltered.

China's meager reserves won't feed the population for very long once civil unrest sets it. You can't keep paying people to make goods no one is buying for very long and they've been doing it for 2-3 yrs now!

I think the new Chinese leadership is going to have a hard time figuring out how to keep this all afloat.

Luxury items won't do in your economic climate (and don't let that come across as ignorance to all the impoverished people of the world; I was brought up under the poverty line - I worked for all I have and worked bloody hard, and I do what I can to help those who need it - I'm just being ignorant towards you).

China producing what can't be sold.Is that wholly true or not.
China's population imbalance is detrimental to it ability to function efficiently, true or not
China's population is too old, true or not.

USA population imbalance too many illegals and native Americans.
USA population too old pension payment and healthcare costs are too high and are a drain on efficient labour costs.

Errr, no, my mother-in-law. If anything it is the blokes in Argentina who are a bunch of useless layabouts. All the women I know are bright, ambitious and hard working. The blokes I know are the ones who only want to work in the 'right' job because they feel that other ones are below themyet, at the same time as being unemployed, want to spend their wives/girlfriends cash as if it was their own...they are a little like English women in that respect...want something for nothing...

Yes there are obviously girls who will be with a guy just for cash but I haven't seen it amongst the middle class Argentinean women, they just usually complain about how useless their men folk are...

@3 Vultures only go for carrion. The state of argieland!
@6 Don't need to cry. Britain on its way out of recession. The UK now has the strongest economy in Europe. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2223343/UK-economy-best-Europe-following-results-lead-way-2015.html And low inflation as well - 2.2% http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2223343/UK-economy-best-Europe-following-results-lead-way-2015.html Isn't that good?
@10 Are you going to rush “home” to enjoy it?
@15 Did you notice the dateline? 24 May 2011. It's all in the detail, isn't it? Doing good? In your dreams! Or is that nightmares?
@17 Why do you care about argieland? Not your country is it? And have you not fled to Denmark? Is your story coming apart?
Let's pick up on an article from the Miami Herald. It's a bit old (June 2012), but not as old as the one your desperation found (May 2011). http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2223343/UK-economy-best-Europe-following-results-lead-way-2015.html And for all those that like a laugh, the comments feature our own, our very own, alex vargas annoying yet more people by posting his drivel. Notice he says how argieland is full of resources. He just doesn't mention that argies don't have a clue. I wonder how he's eating meat in argieland when he's in Canada? Strangely, he doesn't appear to be any more popular in Miami than he is on here. Could it be that he flits from site to site, and country to country, until he gets banned or realises that he is totally hated by the “local” population?
@65 Poor Guzzle. Are you feeling “victimised”?
@77 Goody. A new “victim”. Never mind China or the USA, they are not your problem. What about your “home” country? And how far away from it do you reside? Curiously, this article is about argieland's economy. Is this a case of “Don't look at me. Look over there.” Diversion. And INDEC stats don't tell a story, they tell lies!

@93 Still down at “brainless” level, Guzzle?
@94 “the lovely and charismatic Cristina”. I've figured it out. You're blind!
@95 How can 75% of argie males be queer? It would mean that 25% go without!
@98 I have to take issue with your comment. Remember this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xqwNsmzCbM And yet NONE of those people were at fault. Not one of them supported the illegal invasion and occupation of the Falklands. And that is not the only video! As for visiting argieland, who would want to? If I really HAD to go, I'd want to take 22 SAS with me!
@102 It's the way argie males do it. Remember?
@110 A clam is a crustacean. Or seafood. Argieland has no “right” to self-determination. An implanted population has no right to self-determination. Remember? A colony has no right to self-determination. Remember? And what is argieland? Apart from a cesspit. It's a rebel Spanish colony. By definition, an implanted population. Go for the nuclear defence program. But go “home” first. Go by sea. Drown. Whoops, did I say that out loud? Well, get a haircut, a shave and a wash anyway!
@111 You missed a point. Being British, “I” can do whatever “I” like. You, being argie, can only do what you're allowed. As you are beginning to find out. Already you can't borrow money. Soon, you won't be able to go to sea. Can you take a train, successfully? If you go into the streets, do you have to swim? No interest in SA. Home of thieves, murderers, paedos and queers. My pension is fine, thanks!
@114 “every British person is a priate”. Really? Is that your version of “primate”? Go back and look at the video link I posted. Are those people supporting a criminal act? Is that criminal act thieving? Were they not cheating by ignoring a UNSC resolution? Do they not cheat now by saying it wasn't them? Think about it!

It also appears most Argentines don't care either (in fact they prefer the dollar to the Argie peso). It is only their authoritarian leader that cares as it makes her look bad (heaven forbid).

I mentioned the fact that Argies themselves prefer to trade in dollars rather than pesos. When did I suggest they needed our permission? Please point this out.

It is up to them, but unfortunately it isn't is it? Their economic freedom is being repressed by a specific policy of their own president's doing.

I suppose you agree with governments interfering with the economic freedom of it's own citizens and the clear assault on democratic freedoms this presents?

Economic cycles are economic cycles. We cannot largely influence then but can adapt to them. Recessions are good as any Muppet can make money in a growth period. Recession kills off the weak business and in the long term strengthens business governance.

    Beef.
Does the euro circulate in the UK.Why should the dollar circulate outside the USA.Not as a right of the dollar but as a decision of the gvt to support its use.
As you know beef,in the undemocratic USA you need to change your pounds to dollars, they won't take your precious pound, they'd take euros first.Britain was and is no more.Just a banana monarchy.Bad Isnt it.

Yuleno - The Euro does circulate in the UK and a number of shops accept (especially in London) it for payment. Your point is?

The dollar has been circulation in Argentina by the consent of the market and Argentine citizens. Yet the Argie government feel necessary to stop it's own citizens buying dollars and therefore doing what they wish with their own wealth; a policy consistent with a repressive regime.

I think you meant Constitutional Monarchy and Full Democracy.

Can any Argie please explain why it is a good idea to have your own economic freedom restricted by your government? Do you like being kept poor?

Guzz - The market tells us what Argies want. If Argies didn't want to trade in USD and make real estate purchases in USD then why do the government feel the need to force it?

The market for the use of the USD in Argentina has been created by Argentines and with the consent of the Argentine consumer.

Now, as you cannot even comprehend the very basics of market economics I think that you will simply resort to further insults. After all that is all your mental capacity is capable of.

    @ Guzz
You have a very skewed way of seeing things. Your snarky comments do not create a confidence in your opinion in us here.

Argentines don't denominate or buy major transactions in pesos because of a severe lack of confidence in the peso as a holder of value. The government of Cristina just exacerbates this opinion. *IF* Cristina's policies were working, there would be a stabilization of inflation and the Peso currency exchange and people would learn to love and trust their currency. Pesification would happen organically. Cristina would be confident in her policies doing that organically.

But Cristina's policies are not working. It has caused inflation and currency depreciation. Now she is putting a clamp on dollars to force pesification. It is first and foremost a clear indication of the failure of her own policies that she herself puts this clamp in.

But preventing her people to choose the way they wish to purchase things is also wrong and undemocratic.

Guzz - if Argies were happy to buy and sell property in pesos then the Argentine housing market would have been unaffected by the forced pesification policy.

Clearly Argentines want to use USD to buy and sell their bricks and mortar as the collapse in liquidity has been directly caused by this policy.

Please utilise your best deductive reasoning to counter my argument.

It would be because the peso is too weak and unstable, hence the need for the pesification. Noone wants his/her country dominated by foreign currency. The Argentines are no exception.

So Argentines want to trade in USD because they see the market weakness in their own currency. That was my point all along. This is done with the consent of the market therefore it is want Argentine consumers want.

Forcing a population to use an unstable currency does not strengthen it. It meerly redeces monetary liquidity and economic stagnation. The best course of action is to take pesos out of the economy so the perceived and real value of the currency becomes aligned and stable.

The problem is that the government policy of creating money from nothing has made this impossible and Argentina is on a one way road to another economic disaster.

Hence Argentines want to use the USD.

The housing market in Argentina is not “virtually paralyzed ,”... it is paralyzed period. People here are actually de-listing their properties because they do not want to be paid in pesos... and if they were paid in pesos it would be a loosing propasition. Pesofication will not take place until the rampant inflation here is brought under control.... I wait for N8. It should be interesting.

Guzz, the problem is that for the vast majority of countries, major transactions - boats, planes etc are all done in hard currencies. This does not have to be Dollars but historically that is the traditional hard currency in Argentina. There are multitudes of hard currencies these days, from the Dollar, to the Euro, Yen, Sterling (the hard currency of choice for my country, Ireland for decades prior to joining the Euro), even Canadian and Australian dollars.

There are emerging ones too, such as the South Korean won, the Brazil Real is on a slow path that way too and most certainly the Chinese yuan. The interesting aspect is with these new emerging hard currencies. They have created and instilled confidence in the world by the sound economic policies of their countries. They have in the minds of the world and business people (from big, major companies to smaller family ones) developed confidence in using these currencies.

Argentina has not. Argentina has consistently created a lack of confidence globally in doing business and that is dangerous in this globalized world. CFK's overtly confrontational management of micro and marco economic policies makes people less trusting in the Argentine economy and thus the peso.

No matter how much CFK thinks she can get away with it in the medium term, she will soon start to need more large international transactions from planes to heavy-machinery etc, especially if she thinks YPF is going to be successful.

Now would you trust someone coming in to your shop saying they need a piece of machinery saying they will pay with a loan, then take it, fuck it up and then refuse to pay the full price? No. But that is what will happen with CFK's policies and has been historically so with Argentina. That is why pesification will fail because CFK does not keep to her word, lies and manipulates, the manipulation this time being a clamp on dollars

Agreed. It's the ordinary citizen of Argentina that will suffer from the effects of these insane economic policies.

Last time it was the Internatinal community that Argentina defaulted on, this time it will be their own people.

All pesticfication will do is ensure that, when the economy collapses, everyone will be equally poor. With the exception of CFK and her cronies of course.

In previous uncertain economic times at least the average person could buy dollars for that rainy day on the horizon. Now all they'll have is Peso's, and if the economy collapses, they won't be worth the paper they're printed on, no matter whose picture is on them.

177@ they chose CFK, they support CFK(even now, enough to get re-elected) and even when the support goes down, it's because they finally see it was CFK who destroyed their economy, it's not because of the aggressive talks about invading Falklands or stealing from the Gringos. They all accept that part.

i laugh to the people who write here like the Argies were some innocent sacred beings and that it's only their evil prez who's to blame, haha...dorks.. you have no clue
