for once he has a point.
With Romney we would be looking at war with Iran, albeit an undeclared one.... this way we may at least avoid one by not being forced to defend Israel after it attacks Iran....at least for another 4 years anyway.
This is possibly the wankiest US election in living memory.
Nov 07th, 2012 - 10:57 am - Link - Report abuse 0Romney would have been an economic disaster but President Obama has shown he doesn't have what it takes to fix the problems facing the US economy.

Nov 07th, 2012 - 12:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Unfortunately what you have written is true. Do not forget that Obama inherited a great mess from little GWB. He has to clean up the Augean (financial) stables
What also helped is that he went around the devastated areas that Hurricane Sandy left and showed that he was a man of the people. He emphasised with those who were left without shelter etc..
The BBC said that his team started to prepare for this election before the Republicans. If the Republicans want to regain the Whitehouse they will have to make themselves acceptable to more blue collar workers
So white america commits suicide.

God I hope no black guy is ever voted to be PM in the UK, we would never get rid of him. At least we can call white guys useless without the PC police desending on our house.
I don't think anyone in the US hesitated to call Obama 'useless' if they felt like it.
That includes many Hispanics I've met in California and Cuban-Americans and Mexican Americans I've met in Florida.
Looking at the map of states and who they voted for, it follows the traditional path. Sure the blacks and Hispanics voted for him, but so did the educated wealthy.
The US demographic will certainly reflect who is voted in. There are far more non-whites in the US now, as a percentage of population. I expect that there was more racial pressure from the whites to vote for Romney, perhaps.
I will agree that there is a very ugly adversarial attitude in the US surrounding elections.
My in-laws (non-white, Republican voters) in California say everyone is a afraid to put up election signs, bumper stickers, or even talk about politics in public, except in hushed tones. They are worried about physical violence from both sides.
A disturbing note: My sister-in-law works in Sacramento for the California tax dept.
she said, on the eve of Election Day, a woman in the office, from the' low-income side of town', told her and others, to buy lots of food and prepare for a riot if Obama did not get elected.
For the record, in Canada, all the people I know, felt a big relief that Obama got in again. Romney was seen as a scary unknown 'Hawk'.
Personally, I don't think either candidate has the ability to fix the US economy - it is too big a task that requires a whole new way of thinking, as a nation and a people.
Best Wishes to them.
#11 that's almost as intelligent as saying Romney lost because he is a Mormon.

”My in-laws (non-white, Republican voters) in California say everyone is a afraid to put up election signs, bumper stickers, or even talk about politics in public, except in hushed tones. They are worried about physical violence from both sides.”
Troy, I have to say that is probably the mosty ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
Obama got in because:
1-The devil you know is safer than the one you don't know
2-Obama bailed out the auto industry and that gave him votes in key states
3-California always goes blue
4-Romney being in a group that bought companies, closed them and sold the assets to make money didn't help in this economy.
The only way the US economy is getting back on track is to say we are focusing on the USA and not the world issues.
I was and am concerned about either Romney or Obama getting in. We only had four choices to choice from for president. Unless Repulicans and Democrats relaize that compromise is nt a weakness, nothing will change.

1 ) You have to talk lie(say a lot but tell nothing) many times.
2 ) You have to have ability of distraction.
3 ) You have to have many kinds of comment names( tools in politics)
4 ) You have to speak yourself with your other names to cast a fly, fish.
(means that you have to spar over on insoluable country problems with your tools in politics on media)
Am i making a sense Guzz ?

Indeed, I never said the opposite. What I said was that up until Obama, the path that was set didn't benefit anyone else but the white population. That will stop now. Obama's reelection does not,as some conservative suggest represent a triumph of socialism.Instead it's marks the massive endorsement of an expanding crony capitalism that ultimately could reshape the already troublem US economic system beyond recognition.
”2) The republicans realize the only way to progress as a nation is to work together with Obama.”
Nov 07th, 2012 - 06:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I agree with that! The Republicans spent four years trying to ensure Obama would not be re-elected. Four wasted years.
I was in D C last week and the growing annoyance of the Republican behaviour over the last four years may have been the tipping point in voting for Obama. Let's hope the Tea Party, extreme right-wing, lose even more support because they messed it up big time for the Republicans.

Nov 07th, 2012 - 07:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The government today revealed a hand-signed letter by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to US President Barack Obama, who was last night re-elected for a second term.

In the passion to defend our people's interests many times we have agreed and others we have nourished by an intense exchange of opinions and experiences, she added
25,,
If Obama joined with argentina against the British,

#11 Lee jasper is well on course to being the next MP for Croydon, on a RESPECT Party (George Galloway) ticket - put that in your pipe and smoke it, you racist!
#18&35 There are some truly racist and ignorant comments on this thread. Ugh!
I happen to think that the majority of young voters supporting Obama is a good sign for the future
Agreed Elaine. You strike me as a liberallady, if to the right of me(!), but with a serious blindspot when it comes to Cristina. Which is why you rseort to contortions like calling her right wing when she consistently stands up to the IMF and vulture funds and fights to raise her people out of poverty, and her domestic enemies are the oligarchy. There are right wing Peronists in the catch all PJ umbrella, but she isn't one of them. Can't you see the double standard of slating the Tea Party in the USA but backing its Argentine equivalents?
#25&33 What a brilliant letter from Cristina to Obama. Advice from a more successful and better President than himself though I must say, and I don't know if they can really be called friends in a common cause so long as he doesn't take her diplomatically worded but firm advice to begin tobuild a fairer and more peaceful world
I would not call it a default because the USA never asked for it back. In 1934, Britain owed the US $4.4bn of World War I debt (about 866m pounds at 1934 exchange rates). Adjusted by the Retail Price Index, a typical measure of inflation, 866m pounds would equate to 40bn pounds now, and if adjusted by the growth of GDP, to about 225bn pounds. But the Brits are our friends and we don't squabble over small, old shit.
Nov 09th, 2012 - 11:16 am - Link - Report abuse 0BK get back to you books and vicarious living, Romney was never a banker. You see the MILLIONS protesting last night?
I thought the brits had paid all debt... according to them, they have...
Nov 09th, 2012 - 12:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0How much do all of you owe the russians for saving your arses?
#80 One million according to their own figures, less according to everyone else. Anyway they were protesting against the best of Presidents, who is head and shoulders above both Obama and Romney. I'll jus repost my last point from above, which maybe didn't get enough of an airing coming at the bottom of a long post, to illustrate that:

It really is the eleoquence and brilliant politics of that letter, and all her speeches, even more than her sublime beauty, that makes me love Cristina as a leader and a person =)
The USA owes Russia nothing......and for the record, the war in Europe was technically not America's war. It became our war because of the Axis and our relationship with England. Argentina was friends with the Axis until they realized that in 1945, the Axis lost the war, the brave an fearless leadership of argentina declared war against the Axis and aligned themselves with the Allies.

Nov 09th, 2012 - 04:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Limey came about due to British sailors in wooden fighting ships being issued with the citrus fruit limes to prevent scurvy.
Hence Limeys, a term of derision nowadays (I am told by an American friend).
Guzz
Nov 09th, 2012 - 04:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Limeys are think is a shortening of the original word which started with an 's' and was descriptive and self-explanatory.
I could be wrong but you can understand why it's derogatory connotation is predominant in the USA.
No matter names are names, and traits are traits.
Very good Chris........it's not a derogatory name. Just like I don't take gringo or Yank as derogatory. the days of wooden ships and iron men, english sailors were the only ones with teeth.....because of the lime rations. All the other sailors that had yet to realize that citrus prevents scurvy looked like tootless mountainmen when they smiled......lol

#89 Then why was she in the Sarkozy cabinet on the right of French politics?
Nov 09th, 2012 - 10:55 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The same reason Clinton had a Republican as a SecDef. Here it's not too unusual to cross party's for the cabinet when the head of state wants to show they they are leaders of ALL the citizens of their country, not just the ones that think like them. Unlike kirchner the asslip who ridicules her own countrymen the do not think like her. Great heads of state know their will always be opposition and embraces it and leads them ALL.

The American Idol generation thinks they have a
