I was in Guatemala for an extended period earlier this year. The volcanoes were very active and we had a few earthquakes - enough to jolt me awake but not really cause any damage. I have been busy emailing people there to check they are OK.

Big enough and very well equipped to deal with these emergences,
Perhaps the disused aircraft carriers could be converted to international rescue ships, equipped with the latest technology to help ..
Just a thought.
