Hundreds of thousands of protestors, probably a million according to some estimates, took to the streets of Buenos Aires on Thursday evening to hold the 8N pot-banging demonstration against the administration of Argentine President Cristina Fernandez. Read full article

Nov 09th, 2012 - 09:34 am - Link - Report abuse 0Interesting for a couple of reason. Firstly the number of people protesting, more than I expected. I was in Argentina for the last one and government supporters (in general) were saying that the numbers showed that no-one really supported the protest.
Nov 09th, 2012 - 09:39 am - Link - Report abuse 0Secondly, the fact that people were coming from the south of the city. Obviously there will have been a huge amount but it is still important to bear this in mind. Again, last time the government supporters said that no-one came from the south and this was just an upper-middle class issue. Furthermore they said that, given that people from the south are poor and have to walk miles to get into the centre, it is a really big deal for them as it involves considerable sacrifice. As such, seeing people coming from the south of the city points to an erosion of support for the government. Whether this erosion will solidify, spread or contract we don't know. However, the interesting thing is that this bastion of support seems to be wavering.
TMBOA promises never to yield.

Wonder how many made up their minds to attend at the last minute because they were angry about the power cut - if they discover Macri did it they'll turn their anger on him! Some March .... some Ides!
Over a million Ides, all marching for a better life.
(This happened once in England ... a million people marched to right a wrong, ... but Blair never gave up either ... he lied his way into history and took world conflict to new levels.
It can happen even in the most structured societies.
I hear your voices but I am not listening to your message. )
Listening to massed unarmed marchers has never been popular with governments with their 'backs to the wall' and loss of power being the only other option.

@13 You would know. Would you like a list of common criminals? If you use Wikipedia and look at the article on Argentine government, there is a list of the 17 commonest criminals in argieland.
@27 Hang on, Burger King, in a few years you too will be able to live like an argie. This is the route. Scottish independence. Scottish poverty. Scottish bankruptcy. Scottish starvation. Scottish plague. Scottish who? More lebensraum for England!
@32 Serious suggestion. Lamp post. Meat hook. Piano wire necklace.
BUT. The word for ordinary argentines. Depose your corrupt, criminal government. End your criminal, false claims to the Falkland Islands forever. Grow up. Pay your debts. CFKC blathered on about 'never yielding' BEFORE the march. I suspect she will go as she has been ramping up her 'illness' again, cancelling her trip to Spain because she 'must not have any additional pressure'.

CFK is so stupid and arrogent. For someone who is more concerned with her legacy, she is now writting her history as the most incompetent president Agentina has put forth. But it's not to be unexpected with their history of crisis cycles every ten years or so. Why break the trend now.

Maybe they just need to start holding signs that they want to be part of the world again and not an ostracized nation. Everything thast the kirchner's have implemented made them a wealthier couple and the people of Argentina more dependent and poorer. Some of the trolls here have said that GOD is argry with America, hence the hurricane Sandy. Perhaps GOD was angry with the kirchner's and asslips is next to follow nestor.

Nov 09th, 2012 - 01:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Very clever move of the opposition not to be leading this protest. It is a real cross section of the population protesting her crazy politics. Finally the argentinians are waking up! This populism will leave them in nowhere! Good one Hermanos! i'm proud of you!

Nov 09th, 2012 - 04:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The posters on Mercopress that support CFK all seem NOT to live in Argentina!
I think you will find the majority of them do live in Argentina or SA (if they are indeed real posters not just another troll alias).
Most are aliases for the 2 or 3 Argentinian / Cámpora puppet-masters that troll this site.
You will notice that at different times of the day they seem to have different personalities and command of their command of English changes.
At times they will use their aliases talk to each other, another ploy is to bring in an alias to just to divert attention from the topic under discussion.
It is quite common for them, when they are losing an argument, to make inane comments such as Yawn, bring up the Chagos Islands, the British killing innocent children, refer you to another crazy conspiracy website.

Dear All,
Nov 09th, 2012 - 04:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The protest last night did NOT ask for CFK to resign, go, drop dead, or any other get off the hook manouvre, what we want is for her and her ministers to LISTEN to the needs of the people, to RESPECT our desire to live without continual confrontation, and to do something positive about the REAL problems of Argentina such as: INSECURITY, GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION, INFLATION, GOVERNMENT LIES, NON COMPLIANCE WITH HER PRE-ELECTION POLITICAL PLATFORM to name just a few.
It would be nearly impossible to impeach her because of the make up of Congress, and that she would be succeded by Boudou the Hundred peso king.

''Then all I am asking to each of the Argentines, and especially to the ruling classes, to say what they think and what they want for the country. Nobody will feel offended or will be disturbed”, she stated.''
Whether she actually does is another matter. Mind you, in the same piece linked to, she says there is ''a constant expansion of rights'' to which neither Guzz nor ProRG could explain why there is the 15% tax for spending abroad, or the Dollar clamp, yet still be an expansion of rights.
At least things passed of peacefully. I feared arrests would have been made at such a big gathering.

You agree with all the trolls that support her, yet you seem not to think that it is not odd that they all live OUT OF COUNTRY that they claim to love. It leads me to conculde that you are infact a porteno and pretending to be Scotsman and the Scotsman I know would cease your existence before I could for the way you dishonor an actual Scotsman. Nov 10th, 2012 - 12:09 am - Link - Report abuse 0It is very important to note who, of all Argentineans, went to bang pots to the street. And perhaps more importantly, who didn't, purposely. Most people went to the protest stating their frustration, but without clear demands, other than a increasing surveillance and control as a way for reducing crime (the official policy is reducing crime by reducing poverty and empowering the justice system, instead of by adding more police). There was also a lot of uninformed opinion taken by journalists, like stop corruption (without proof, or even stating what or who precisely), basta (stop, stop what?), we don't want her or go away (to be replaced by whom exactly?), nobody can't stand her (when actually, more than 50% of the population loves her and would vote for her again), there's no separation of power (presenting no evidence for such an absurd and preposterous claim).
Nov 10th, 2012 - 12:12 am - Link - Report abuse 0Macri (head of government in the city of Buenos Aires), and other politicians of various parties (even opposing ones) attempting to bank on the protest, stated obvious and useless remarks like People are being heard nationwide joined by a single flag (the Argentinean, of course, the same one waved by the president's supporters!). The protest was, more than anything, a cry of desperation for not having a representative opposition with a reasonable plan and having any chance at winning the next elections.

Nov 10th, 2012 - 08:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0Denmark sent troops to fight an illegal war, government (with Anders Fogh Rasmussen in charge) lying to it's population about their reasons as to why invade a sovereign nation. They also let CIA flights land on Danish ground to transport civilians to different secret torturing camps, all against every international treaty they've signed themselves. Rasmussen went to become the general secretary of NATO...
Does this figure in your corruption list?
Matter of fact, the ones making your corruption list are the most corrupted in this planet, and your list isn't even appropiate for toilet paper...
The fact that USA comes 4th in your human development list is rather alarming. If you classify school massacres as positive development of humanity, they we might have a problem...
The conclusion is that your lists are made by yourselves and pretty much useless for anything but spreading misinformation.

One one thread, Think was on a roll, on attack, when theSwede appeared and had a conversational exchange with him through a couple of posts. Guzz had been absent for awhile, but Swede was very familiar with Think and used a similar style to Guzz.
I identified the Swede as Guzz on my post reply.
The next time I logged in, the entire post of the swede was deleted.
Perhaps Guzz's IP had been flagged. Guzz had been challenging the credibility and integrity of the editors of MP.
Gosh !! I sound like a Troll Conspiracy Theorist, LOL LOL
If he's gone....great. However I hate to think that MP editors cannot handle cristicism, or they handle it by censuring commentors. Of course I thought when they stopped taking comments kirchner's got to them.
