Argentine president criticizes lack of political leadership to present alternative model
Reacting to Thursday massive protest against the government which convened hundreds of thousands of Argentines in the country and overseas, President Cristina Fernandez said that the real problem is the lack of a political leadership that can represent an alternative model to that which has been so successful for the majority of Argentines. this is a different culture which is abstruse and unconventional especially for English origin countries who have never elected freely their head of state and have no any idea how these systems run.

And living in a country where the government does' not spend millions of taxpayers money on building up hate for the only media group who speaks out against them, building up hate for the falklanders, for repsol, the yanquis, the west, the middle class etcetc but instead on fuelling growth and productivity....better and more sustainable for sure. Argentina is becoming more and more 'us and them' - and full of hate. Great achievement cristina.
Can you not see that your 'model' is failing? Are you blind? look out of your window. crime inflation, corruption, failing industry... this was not the argentina of 4 years ago.I admire your loyalty to your dear leader but eventually Argentina will have to start addressing the problems that are building up. What do you think argentina will be like in 10 years if this 'model' (read - poorly thought out experiment) continues? It makes me sad to think.
And how LOW of Cristina to accuse all the protesters of campaigning against the family allowance. Similar policies are standard in any developed country. But any sane administration also has policies to encourage job growth, instead of making people dependent on handouts. Ask 9 out of 10 people and they will say they would prefer to work and accept these handouts, funding for which is vanishing by the day. Shame theres no productive jobs going cos all the businesses are scared off and people have to resort to crime instead.

@20 In Argentina maybe, in other countries, journalists do not fear repercussions from the government if they express their opinions. Obviously everyones views are subjective, but being able to say those views, whether they are pro or anti, is part of a free press.

I agree inequality in Argentina needs to be tackled. Maybe sorting out your tax system would help? instead of stealing land and resources, bankrupting and expropriating the businesses which are necessary for long term growth, forcing the most productive to leave the country in search of opportunities and breeding hatred of anyone who thinks differently?
Argentina used to be my favorite country on the face of the planet. Now theres so much hate, so much anger. Its completely polarised, and not a pleasant place to be anymore.

I never said that, I stated that lots of them are common folks airing discomfort.
Mainly insecurity.
And insecurity can be battled on two fronts. 1 by increasing the police and decreasing the freedom of the people, and 2 by addressing the poverty.
Number 1 has been tried and tested many places globally and tends to lead to overcrowded jails, not reducing crime a bit.
Of course the oligarchy will cry, nobody expects them to drop their standard of living by own free will.
But it's like smashing your tomb with a hammer. It hurts, but it's only temporary...
You are right yosoy. It was a nice place to be. One bad government after another is just killing it.

You know the best way to tackle poverty and in turn, insecurity?
You create jobs. you invest in creating a skilled workforce, through education, through training, through providing opportunities. You form an environment where businesses and entrepreneurship can grow and prosper (stable currency, low risk, respect for laws, property rights...) You build relationships based on transparency, you gain respect through cooperation within the international community. You produce something that is of value to the world, which increases wealth and prosperity. and if the wealth goes disproportionately to the richer in society, you implement taxes in a transparent and non-corrupt way, and you provide a social safety net for the weakest.
You cant provide a social safety net if businesses are failing, you have such low tax income as evasion is easier than compliance. you cant build fruitful relationships internationally if you are the world's laughing stock, and if your president says she wont pay back her debts, while simultaneously begging for foreign investment in total desperation. The height of hypocracy.

But she immediately continued recalling that “this is the president who most money invested in ARA Libertad, and I can assure you this government is going to recover her”.

Let me tell you something. Today, for the first time in 6 freaking years I was able to buy blueberries and raspberries. Frozen mind you, but they are a product of AR. It's an interesting take on the motivation of those going out on the street to suggest that they are protesting about not being able to get cheap domestic labour. I sympathise, I really do. Here in the UK it's absolutely impossible to get anyone to do anything for less than the minimum wage plus National Insurance contribution - unless one pays cash of course but that creates all sorts of difficulties with HM Revenue and Customs. For a while those Poles and Liths were the answer but even they have cottoned on now. Still, I wonder if the pots and pans in use on the streets the other day were clean or dirty. We should be told so we can make up our own mind on whether or not the supply of domestic servants in Argentina has dried up (or should that be washed and dried up?).

Maquis are native Patagonian berries that only grow from San Rafael and points south. They only grow in the short patagonian summer. They are extremely rich in antioxidants and that is all I buy between April and July when they are plentiful.

It was Nestor that defaulted, not her.Even though she likely supported it. He gambled SO wrong. He gambled on margin, and now the challenge is TWICE as big.
And, the Argentines usually have a new currency every 20. She gave herself too much credit, but she shouldn't take so much blame.
Let the currency naturally devaluate. Sure you will have to go through a period where you're not idolized, but you'll stop making Mendoza wine co-operatives import rice or shoes or whatever.
It would have saved the number of British lives lost but the Iron Lady decided against it. The Task Force had the momentum by then so it was not really necessary. It would have saved a coupe of days at the end of the conflict though and she wasn't to know that at the time. Remarkable lady.

Argentines have financial crises just as regularly as the U.S. military (the Deep South tradition) overextends itself, losing ppl and spending billions. Both could benefit from patience as we encourage them to evolve. Baby steps!

Noe France on the other hand was an absolute monarcy uptil 1792 - 3 years after the start of the french revolution!
As for the comparison of both countries history in the last 2 hundred years - Well fpr france you have - Nepoleon, german invasion in WWI, German conquest and occupation in WW2 and more recently strong supporters of an EU wide STATE, run by unelected officials.
FOr Britain we have Beat Nepoleon, Helped the virtually won WW1 for you even though it wasn't really our fight as the germans weren't invading us, help along with the americans, and other allies to liberate Franch in WW2 (Giving the french their democracy and freedom back! and now are position ourselves to stick the fingers up at the unelected EU officials and EU states that want to create 1 EU super state, in order to protect not just british sovereignty, but our very way of live and democratic society along with the freedoms that come with it. As i said, we rule the queen and the politicians here in the UK so their is no way we will give up or freedom and rule over this country so that unelected EU officials can stick their noses into our daily lives and tell us want we can and can't do and tax us to high heaven.
Now do you really want to carry on comparing the democratic histroy of Britain/England with that of France's. Personally as france has only been a democarcy for only just 220 years compared to 800 years here in britain. Youd be pretty foolish to even contemplate making such comprasion in the first place.
Though its interesting how you only wanted to compare the last 200 years and not the last 800 years, but then hardly surprising since franch only has 220 years of democracy!!
