Fifty Falklands veterans at Stanley’s Remembrance Sunday commemoration
Remembrance Sunday, November 11, was celebrated in the Falkland Islands capital, Stanley with a service at Christ Church Cathedral, followed by a march to the Cross of Sacrifice, the Memorial to all those who laid down their lives for Britain in war, where a service of remembrance and thanksgiving was held in warm and sunny weather. For the british posters on this site, try to remember that the Argentinians who fought this war did not have a choice, they were conscripts, and each one of the Argentinian dead were someone son or husband or father....... it was a sad loss of life.
You might caqll them heroes, the world knows them as mercenaries and pirates.

If that's the way you want to remember the Argentine armed forces, go right ahead...... I don't think I called them hero's, I was just inviting everyone to remember them, something which, by all accounts, the Argentinian people have not done for the last 30+ years....
But you are probably right, the world knows the Argentines for being mercenaries and pirates. Shame really, on such a day as this you would think that they would choose to remember...... not ignore and forget.
Not really. Argentines are not known as mercenaries and pirates. Your forces are though. Such as the Gurkhas, etc. The Argentines have always fought their invaders, and enemies from within and out. They don’t invade other nations or steal other people’s resources. The Malvinas were recovered, not invaded, in 1982.

Actually Yank - our forces are known as one of the top fighting forces in the world. Only your lot could invent the term “friendly fire”.

I salute those from all countries who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. That is what this is all about, not the rights and wrongs of those who lead us and we should all do well to remember that.

They tried there hand at piracy on the Falklands and the US kicked them off.
Who would even hire them as mercs? Someone on a tight budget?
British forces do often even to this day become re hired in civilian roles such as security of even mercenary work. That's because they are the best at what they do.
I believe currently the best private security for wealthy or famous people is generally considered to be Ex SAS personnel.

@ proRG - In 1982 the Falklands were soverign British territory, as they are today, Argentina's invasion of these islands were recognised by the UN as just that - an invasion. If you are so anti - imperialist why don't you concentrate more on your own country, why don't you give Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona back to Mexico? You seem to like taking the moral stand, but you just come acroos as ignorant and miss informed, just like most of the american people to be honest.

@8 Actually, argies are best known for being war criminals. War crimes include such actions as ill-treatment of prisoners of war. Like forcing Royal Marines to lie face-down and standing on their backs. They also include such actions as the ill-treatment of civilian residents. Like confining 115 residents of Goose Green in the community hall without food or bedding. That included 43 children. The community hall was not marked as being used for civilian detainees and no shelters against air or artillery bombardment were provided. More war crimes. Forcible deportations. Another war crime. Siting artillery between civilian homes. Another war crime.
@16 I disagree. Such “people” (I use the term loosely) MUST be challenged and resisted at every opportunity! Think of the 30s. Appeasement is NEVER the right course.

Nov 21st, 2012 - 12:45 am - Link - Report abuse 0To be fair to CFK ,in years to come, a grateful FIG forced into countering Argentina's false claims thus ensuring their future (either as an Independent country or a BOT with increasing powers of autonomy) will erect statues to her Timmidman and Putrid jelly as the influences that forced them to state their case internationally, leading to a deep water port, a vibrant oil industry, the 2013 referendum and hopefully the emasculation of the corrupt and impartial C-24 that hopefully will be axed by Ban-ki-Moon.
I am not certain that the gratitude will lead to the statues being cleaned of Turkey Vulture/sea bird crap or being dive bombed by bonnies.
