The chief of staff to former President Lula da Silva, and fellow founder of Brazil's ruling Workers' Party, was sentenced to over 10 years in prison for running a congressional vote buying scheme almost a decade ago. Read full article

    Well if these really were Lula and DIlma appointed judges, then this is a good day for the rule of law, the seperation of powers and the blindness of justice. After his immense role in building up the PT its sad to see him fall so far, but if he did what he's said to have done then this could well be a just judgment. Brazil watchers - is there any chance, on the other hand, he could have been the victim of a witch-hunt?
