US public opinion pessimistic about a political agreement on the ‘fiscal cliff’

A majority of Americans expect the US to go over the fiscal cliff at the beginning of 2013 and would blame Republicans if that happened, according to a poll published Tuesday. On Friday Democrat and Republican congressional leaders are scheduled to begin discussions. Read full article

    If I had politicians like they do in the States, I'd be pessimistic too! Oh wait, I've got the Con-Dems and New Labour, they're just as bad! Why can't we have leaders like Cristina or Chavez in the Anglosphere? I believe one day we will, of that I'm optimistic...

    Can you explain your thinking a bit. What are the qualities of the leaders you mentioned that you would like to see leaders in the Anglosphere have?

    Better, pro-people policies, and also a bit of panache - you may not agree with them, but you know they mean what they say and fight for what they believe in, tootha nd nail and in style...
