The Falkland Islands government complained on Tuesday that the Chairman of the UN Decolonization Committee, Ambassador Diego Morejón Pazmiño is not acting with the impartiality that his role demands and revealed a letter, which remains unanswered, inviting the ambassador to visit the Falklands matching his informative trip to Argentina on the sovereignty of the Islands dispute. With pillars of democracy like Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, China, Syria and Iran on the C24 what does the UN expect.

It must also be said that the Falklands government states that “the Decolonisation Committee is seen by most people as an outdated, ineffective and partial Committee and your actions as Chair have brought its reputation even further into disrepute”.

this pretty much hits the nail on the head!

Interesting UN judgement on the islands that ownership was disputed between Venezuela and Columbia. It seems that they belonged to Columbia as Venezuela had signed them away in a treaty some years ago in the 20th Century. Venezuela claimed that the treaty was signed under duress from the US.

Sounds rather like Argentina signing the 'Convention of Settlement' in 1850 and then not making any protests about British Sovereignty until 1941 (after 50 years such disputes on sovereignty are considered defunct if there is a gap of 50 years or more between protests).

Still, what would Argentina do without the 'Great Malvinas Lie?'

Goooood shot, that is going to hurt some people, but they need it.

Also it will have the effect of dragging the whole issue into the 21st century.

The increasing disparity between Ban-Ki Moon’s statements (for some time now), and the position of the C24, could not continue unchallenged for long.

Probably see a spate of these now from other territories disillusioned with the C24 and its lack of any modern thinking.

End of C24 in sight I think, and with it any remaining influence of the “Argentina supporters club” on the committee have, on the matter.

    @ 3 Brit Bob
The best bit of the judgment was:

    214. The Court does not believe that any weight should be given to Nicaragua’s contention that the Colombian islands are located on “Nicaragua’s continental shelf”. It has repeatedly made clear that geological and geomorphological considerations are not relevant to the delimitation of overlapping entitlements within 200 nautical miles of the coasts of States (see, e.g., Continental Shelf (Libyan Arab Jamahirya/Malta), Judgment, I.C.J. Reports 1985, p. 35, paras. 39-40).

About time the C24 was challenged... it is very clearly biased and very clearly NOT doing its job: which is so support the Islanders, not make its own decisions on what it thinks is right & proper whilst ignoring the islanders entirely.

kick them up the arse and off the committee.. it has no power or relevance anyway, but is simply now a partisan group of cronies pandering to regional politics of personal preference.

It becomes more ridiculous. Impartial Ambassador Morejón Pazmiño would have sent newly appointed representative Assange to visit the Falklands, but he was unavoidably detained.

That's right Dr Elsby, hit them with the truth and show them up for not doing the job they're supposed to do.

It's about time the UNGA dissolved the C24, and get all the territories on the list to have a vote on their status.

Then remove them all from the list. No more list, no more problems, no more corrupt committee on the gravy train.

Typical British. When the UN rules a resolution against Argentina, the UN is fair and wise. When the UN hints at not being 100% in their tank, then they are unfair and partial.

That in essence resumes the anglo-saxon mentality. Only when people and cultures agree with them 100% (or suck up to them 100%), are they fair, good, and wise. Deviate one centimeter from that, and you are a fool, evil, and worthless.

    Sounds reasonable, huh?

    Dear
    Dr.Barry Elsby MLA

Falkland Islands have agreed with Britain on a new constitution to take affect by January 1, 2009 replacing a charter adopted in 1985.
The new document approved by Queen Elizabeth II ,formalizes the system of self government on the South Atlantic Archipelago while giving Britain the final say on foreign policy, policing and the administration of justice according to a joint statement.
The statement also saying that the new constitution determines that the relationship between the Executive Council and the Islands' governor who is appointed by the British government in London.
It makes clear council members are responsible for most domestic policies, but the Governor retains “ VETO ” power that can be exercised in the interest of good governance .
Britain still retains responsibility for ” external affairs, defense , internal security and the administration of justice.

    Yours sincerely.
    Max.

Wrong you Brit, Argentines make more money and are on average more educated than the average of EVERY COUNTRY IN THE AMERICAS!

Argentines go to the USA, they excel. They go to Mexico, they excel (causing great jealousy amongst Mexicans, because even butt ugly argie chicks can get a modelling job there). Argentines go to Central America, they excel in the media and entertainment. Go to Colombia? Same. Go to Chile? More educated than 90% of chilean median education level. In Peru, they are the highest earners.

“The profile of the Argentine American population is generally similar to the overall U.S. population's. Among the key differences, however, is educational attainment. Argentine Americans exhibit a rate of 39.5% of holders of bachelor's, graduate, or professional degrees, contrasted with the 27.5% of the overall U.S. population. Argentine Americans had a median household income of $55,044. Again, this is higher than the national figure, which was $50, 740”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_American

”The Argentines continued to arrive, with the next wave after the economic crisis of 2001 (ArgenMex), with the Argentine population in Mexico doubling from 2001 to 2007.[24] Most of these immigrants are educated and from the country's professional classes. They are often found working in commercial centers, in publicity and many Mexican models are in fact of Argentine background.“

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_American

”En un duro proceso de adaptación, algunos de sus miembros destacaron en el ámbito empresarial, turismo, industrial y comercial”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_American

A diferencia de lo que ocurre con los otros inmigrantes de origen americano, se desempeñan en empleos mejor remunerados que los demás inmigrantes latinoamericanos y de similar ingreso al de los chilenos.

I have just been reading the article in question - and it's astounding...

    http://tiempo.infonews.com/2012/10/08/argentina-87812-los-ingleses-no-tienen-argumentos-para-evitar-el-dialogo-por-malvinas.php

    He states:
    1. He believes that the falklands issue shouldn't be in the decolonisation commitee because “it's argentine territory occupied by a foreign power”
    2. He believed every word of Timmerman's “brave” presentation at the decolonisation committee as it had photos and documents to support it.
    3. He spouts the usual Argentine propaganda about the islands being part of the inhertitance from the Spanish empire (also colonies).
    4. As long as he is chairman of this committee, there will be no visit to the islands by any of the committee as it would be the recognition of a colony and their right to have autodetermination
    5. It calls the british territory an invasion of Argentine territory.

Looks like a bit of a stitch up - which is why nobody really pays much attention to them.

Take a good look at your own economy - it's past the toilet stage- it's in the sewage farm, gradually breaking down into somenthing foul smelling and toxic to anyone from any other country who tries to put anything into it - like a loan.............................

If you want ugly - take a look at CFK - I persoanlly find her quite an ugly person - not just in terms of looks - but in attitude as well.

Mirroring your own comments - we know we have major problems up here in the North- but seriously, you must be on crack if you want to try to take the piss out of us.

We don't have warships being basically besieged in Ghana as collatoral for failure to pay debts............or a clamp on moving our money into dollars......or inflation at 30%........or general strikes................shall I go on.......

And construction on two more lines of metro are about to begin, again with our OWN funds. And we are the only city in the interior of Argentina with mass transit on rails.

Not at all, repeating that all the time proves MY point. That the world hates Argentina for whatever reasons.

We are the only country in the world whose “achievements” are held against us. But you were the richest and now...

Yet to the Italians people say “wow, Rome is a great accomplishement”.

To the Brits “wow, the Empire was a great accomplishement”

To the Americans “wow, having space vehicles was a great accomplishment”.

You don't here people say “Italians you suck for having been Rome, with the roads, plumbing, the legions, and wealth, and now look at you”, or “You Brits suck you have no empire now you are failures”, or to the Americans “hahaha you are losers you went to the Moon and now you can't put a monkey in orbit”.

Same examples I could use with France, Spain, Portugal, Soviet Union, Germany, etc...

That behavior only proves we Argentines are right and the world seeks to harm us and screw us at every turn.

    @48
Actually you are wrong, Italy is often laughed at for being in such a state compared to the past. For us in the UK it is a source of national embarrassment for having built the greatest and most powerful empire in history and also to have been the most influential country in history and then to lose it all in a cloud of smoke and shame with the world laughing at our crumbled prospects. And for the Americans, I have seen eastern commentators laugh and slander them as the decline and loss of the space program represents the US's falling status in the world.

“That behavior only proves we Argentines are right and the world seeks to harm us and screw us at every turn.” Again you are paranoid, why would you have this attitude? Why isn't the world out to get Chile? Your next door neighbour and culturally similar friend?

Ask yourself why we Brits generally have animosity towards Argentina. Your claim on our islands and people is the trying force for this animosity. If these claims never existed, then Argentina would hardly come up on the radar of most Brits like Conqueror for example.

“All good things must come to an end”. Nothing is eternal and dateless. Rome had to fall, the Empire had to crumble, the USA #1 has to end (and will soon). That is not a failure, that is LIFE.

Argentina was one of the richest places for 50-60 years from the 1880s to the 1950s? Ok. Cool, at least we did that. Can't last forever, but is better than 90% of the nations of the world that won't ever reach that.

I have slagged off the MLA's complacency in the past so well done Dr Elsby for exposing the BIASED, IMPARTIAL C-24 for the scam it is.
C-24 chairman's comments do not sit beside Ban-Ki-Moon's.
My opinion is that the MLA's should write to Ban-Ki Moon, challenging the UNs impartiality,(as represented by the C-24), informing him that the C24 is now a laughing stock as it goes against the regulations of the organisation it pretends to represent.

The Argentines scoff at the 2013 referendum in the Islands next year, like a murderer looking at the rope that is about to hang him automatically assuming the rope is rotten, without testing it.

If the MLA's pull their finger out and challenge the Argentines on the false history that originated resolution 2065, the Argentines are going to get hit for six.

What anybody should think when read this letter ? Lets analyze step by step his veracity and what it say:

    1) “..In the article you rightly say that the Falkland Islands are no longer a colony..”
What C-24 Chairman in fact say ? “”They said formally non -self gov territories', but to me they are colonies“..... ”And for me it's a shame that in this century still speak of colonization...”

    http://tiempo.infonews.com/2012/10/08/argentina-87812-los-ingleses-no-tienen-argumentos-para-evitar-el-dialogo-por-malvinas.php

*****so, a matter of fact, the letter says LIES

    2) “..The modern Falkland Islands are a self-governing ...”

UN official and main body say that Malvinas is an Non-Self-Governing Territorie that MUST enter in the des coloization process in mandatory way.

    http://tiempo.infonews.com/2012/10/08/argentina-87812-los-ingleses-no-tienen-argumentos-para-evitar-el-dialogo-por-malvinas.php

*****so, a matter of fact, the letter says LIES

    3) ”We are a thriving democracy with a modern Constitution
The head of state is the Queen, nobody vote of her , so Malvinas follow a old fashioned monarchy system.

*****so, a matter of fact, the letter says LIES

    4) “. We elect our own Government in a democratic manner, make our own laws and run our own affairs”

What the official site of Falkland Island Gov say about ?

“The Falkland Islands are a United Kingdom Overseas Territory by choice. Supreme authority is vested in Her Majesty The Queen and exercised by a Governor on her behalf..” “The role of the Governor.... is the representative of HM the Queen in the Islands, and represents the UK Government..”

    www.falklands.gov.fk/Government.html

*****so, a matter of fact, the letter says LIES

    CONCLUSION:

The letter is signed by Mr Elsby, an englhisman born who came to the islands in the 90s for make easy money...still does, and is logical his concern (as others) for keep the status quo even lying like this.

“ Argentine Americans had a median household income of $55,044. Again, this is higher than the national figure, which was $50, 740”

TTT is playing games with statistics again.
He is comparing a privileged and educated section of Argentine society with a broad cross-section of US population.

In other words, the 'Argentine Americans' in the US are those that

    - can afford to travel to the US
    - probably have Professional 'connections' or well-established sponsors in the US
    - already have an education or skill
    - meet the US requirements for immigration
    - have the money to travel to the US
    - have money for an advanced education and to live

These would not be 'average' Argentinians that are compared to average US Americans, which includes high school dropouts, single-parents, the unemployed, etc etc.

Compared to Argentina, USA is still ”the Land of Opportunity“ or as some put it,”a classless society“ - there are many who have made legitimate personal or business fortunes through hard work, without post secondary educations.

Seriously? How can you demand Argentina become a SUPERPOWER with 5 million people? What to stand up to countries with 70 million, 100 million, 300 million people????

Even Italy, France, etc had over 30 million people, multiple times more than us.

How the slark can you expect Argentina to fight World Wars, and be a global force with that??? Just because it was 4th or 5th in per capita doesn't mean it had the population and industrial base to build a military machine with that prosperity.

Otherwise, the world's superpower today would be Norway or Hong Kong.

The Queen is head of state of 16 countries, all of them far more transparent and democratic than argentina with its failing democracy - amongst them are such countries as Canada, Australia and New Zealand. All of these independent countries have a British governor who represents the Queen in those countries in the same way the governor of the Falklands represents the Queen in the islands. He is not the de facto ruler. The falklanders have their own democratic organisation.

The future of the Falklands is for the islanders to decide - as enshrined in the UN charter. The C24 is becoming more and more irrelevant in the light of these comments. All those nations that wish to be independent already are, or are fighting very publicly to be so (Palestine, east Timor etc). In fact, in 2014 the Scottish will vote on whether or not they wish to become independent from the UK. Do you hear the Queen complaining about that? Of course not.

If Argentina is serious about trying to get sovereignty, then they should go to the ICJ in the Hague. Of course, the cards are stacked against them because the reality is that the islands have been settled and administered by the current population for nearly 200 years, and the argentine case is very weak in light of the peace treaty signed by your government in 1850. It's strange also that for nearly 100 years there was no mention of the sovereignty dispute in the argentine opening of parliaments until it looked like Britain was going to be defeat in WW2 and the then government decided to be opportunistic and since then have been crying to all that listen that the islands belong to them whereas the world is now a very different place to what it was in 1833 and the world have moved on and Argentina is stuck in the past, ironically with a country several times bigger than it was in 1833 without any kind of colonialism, expansionism or expropriation of indigenous lands.

So I guess the 98% of the population of Argentina who have European roots had better start packing their bags and head back to Europe then - those of them who haven't already left - funny how I have met a lot of argentines in Europe who left after the last financial melt down, having to go up their family tree so they can get a European passport. How can that be, they are all south Americans, not Europeans. Hmmm, something doesn't add up, does it.

Having lived in Spain, Colombia, guatemala and met a lot of people from all over the continent, there is one thing that is clear. That is that the rest of the continent laugh at you. A country that had so much potential has been ruined by decades of corrupt governments and dictators - and the cycle continues while the Botox Queen plays the Fiddle while Rome burns. Cuba knows all about oppression by a larger neighbour, foreign sponsorship and has oil prospects. OK, perhaps not. Then there's Sierra Leone.; former British “colony” and “protectorate” with good cause to be both antagonistic but also thankful to the British ten years after the Civil War ended. Who can forget the dispatching into history of the self styled “West Side Niggas” but who can remember the less well known role played by British officers in UNAMSIL? And what an auspicious time now would be as they celebrate another peaceful democratic election under international observation. And they've got hydrocarbons too.

Last time I was in BA, there were an awful lot of European looking people, far more than in Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Latin countries - which is why most of the rest of Latin America make fun of it. The argentines are the French of Latin America. They think they are superior to all the other countries in the region and yet the one thin that all the other countries have in common is that they are the joke. I mean come on, why is it the so called most European of Latam countries the one that keeps going bust?

It makes me laugh so much when latams talk about their independence from the mother country and how they fought to free themselves of oppression and yet they themselves are colonialists in foreign lands.. It was a shame that the continent wasn't colonised by the British, as I am sure that it would be a lot more developed, democratic and rich than it is right now. Instead you inherited the Spanish penchant for caciques, corruption and nepotism. You just don't have enough people of Anglo Saxon descent. That is the problem.

It's a shame. Argentina is a beautiful country with some outstanding natural beauty. However, it seems to be stuck in 1833 when a few illegal occupiesrs of some island had their military garrison removed back to the mainland. The world has moved on; maps have been redrawn and where modern boundaries lay now is pretty much where they are going to stay. The united provinces is now several national states, Patagonia no longer is indigenous territory and the Falklands are not part of Argentina, and to think this will ever change is setting up generations of argentines for continued disappointment. Argentina is not going to return the lad it got from Paraguay it seized in the war of the triple alliance, the conquista de desierto is not going to be reversed and all Europeans are not going to return north to what was the provincial de rio plata.

You guys should take a chill pill and get over it.

FIG runs the internal governance of the Falklands and is taking a wider role in external affairs.

She is the head of state in the same way she is the head of state of the UK, a figurehead. The UK is a democracy and so are the Falklands.

“This a sovergein issue between 2 nations AR-UK”

We should not get too excited about Ambassador Diego Morejón Pazmiño's interview with Tiempo Argentino, he is obviously using those 30 years of experience as a diplomat because in the whole interview he did not once mention the UK, the United Kingdom, or Great Britain, what he did do was mention “Inglaterra” and “ingleses” a total of 9 times. Thus his words mean absolutely nothing, his support of our dear Mr. Timerman, like his support of our country is non existent!!!!!!

It seems to be more of a country than Argentina is right now.

Finally able to get to work at La Campora HQ after the strikes yesterday, eh?

Face it, Gustbury, every day that goes past only strengthens the Islanders claim and weakens Argentina's already lame claim.

Everytime a member of the Kirchner government opens their mouth they strengthen the Falklanders claim to be self-governing.

Argentina has never had a right to the Falkland Islands, and will never get the Falkland Island no matter how many LIES you tell. The world sees your government for what they are: Liars, debtors, defaulters, whiners, crybabies, pathetic and untrustworthy.

And because they are your government, that is how the world perceives all of Argentina, including the people there.

Oh, gustbury, perhaps you'd like to explain how the Falkland Islanders don't have a right to their own land, when they've lived on it longer than Argentina has existed?

Are you going to spout the usual rubbish that is so easily refuted as being distortions of the truth and outright lies?

The Falkland Islanders will still be free of Argentine rule in 100 years time. I doubt Argentina will still exist then, you will have fallen into ruin because you keep electing corrupt officials who steal all your money.

I foresee Argentina breaking up due to civil war, and provinces declaring independence. Then its bye-bye Argentina for good.

It seems like the FIG is already on the offensive to me. In the past year they have shown the world that the have a voice, and have used that voice to show that they are indeed a people who have the same basic right as every other human on the planet, to decide their own alliegiance and status.

    In other words, self-determination.

This the Argentines can't stand, because they now know that they will never get the Falklands. However, the Argentine government is just spiteful enough to try and ruin the Falklands if they can't have them.

But we all know that the only way the Argentine government can ruin the Falklands is if they somehow get sovereignty over them. I mean they've already made a pig's ear of Argentina itself. :)

You can't 'regain' sovereignty over something that has NEVER been yours.

The 3 months illegal occupations in 1833 by UP (Argentina didn't exist then) and 1982 don't count as a legal case in regards to sovereignty.

Spain also did not leave the islands in their will, they couldn't have as they had already relinquished their claims to the Islands more than 10 years prior to recognising Argentina as an independent state.

Argetnina also signed a treaty in 1850 stating that they didn't have any outstanding disputes with Britain, and indeed maps produced for Argentinas embassies at that time clearly show that the Falklands were NOT Argentine territory.

Then Argentina didn't mention the Islands again for 91 years! All sovereignty claims are void if they are lapsed for 50 years or more, so you still haven't got a leg to stand on.

Face it Britain and the Falklanders have EVIDENCE supporting our claims.

All Argentina has is lies supporting your claims:

    1. The British expelled an Argentine colony in 1833 - LIE. Firstly only the mutinous and murderous troops from the UP were removed (Argentina didn't exist for another 20 years), secondly none of the colonists were Argentinian (as Argentina didn't exist for another 20 years).
    2. Spain ceded the Falklands to Argentina: LIE. Spain dropped its sovereignty claims to the Falklands in the 1840's and even saluted the Union Flag upon departure. Spain didn't recognise Argentina as an independent country until the 1860's.
    3. Argentina has continuously claimed sovereignty over the Islands: LIE. From 1853 until 1941, Argentina didn't mention the Falkland Islands at all.
    4. The Falklands are closer to Argentina so therefore are Argentinian. WRONG. Proximity is not a basis for sovereignty, and even if it were the Falklands are actually 4 miles closer to Chilean territory than they are to Argentinian.

But it is all irrelevant because SELF-DETERMINATION trumps them all.

“it was a shame that the continent wasn't colonised by the British, as I am sure that it would be a lot more developed, democratic and rich than it is right now. Instead you inherited the Spanish penchant for caciques, corruption and nepotism. You just don't have enough people of Anglo Saxon descent. That is the problem.”

Actually not. Look at Guyana, not even “inferior” South America wants anything to do with that dump of massive crime and degradation. 100% British, in fact the only piece of South America the British could get (they tried to get a chunk of it twice, but were routed in battle).

This is by far the most racist statement ever on this website. The funny thing is it's just an illusion. The Anglo-saxons just have the benefit of being 'ok' in modern times (last 200 years), but before that they were the laughing stock of Europe and the world, good-for-nothing barbarians whose cities had more plumbing and whose country had more roads and mail under the Romans 1500 years before than in circa 1600-1700. At that time, Spain even tried to invade you, the French saw you as uncivilized, the Germans wanted to convert you, etc. You were the puppets on the fringes.

Of course this period is ending now, as no one in their right mind follows the anglo-saxon economic/banking/social model now. The one that brought the latest crisis, segregation/apartheid, “preemtive war”, and pornography. That's the modern Anglo-saxon cultural legac.

Really? Then perhaps you should lobby your government to remove the clause in your constitution which says that the ONLY outcome of talks over the Falklands issue is complete sovereignty over the Island regardless of what the Islanders want. That sounds like oppression to me. Maybe you should also lobby your government to include FIG when talking about sovereignty? Although first you would have to recognise us as a people and I don't think that is likely to happen any time soon.

Maybe if you spread a little of your fabulous wealth of natural resources around Argentina, the government would no longer feel the need to colonise my country to steal our natural resources?

I do not support the use of the constitution for geopolitical grandstanding. I do talk to people and convince them such usage is pernicious. As for negotiations, I don't support sovereignty negotiations. You are British people by ethnicity and genetics. You are status is settled and is not under threat. There is nothing to discuss on that, Argentina cannot remove you from there nor should we ever.

If Argentina dropped the matter for good, then that issue would no longer be up for discussion, and beyond that there is nothing to discuss in any matter between Argentina and the Falkland Islands.

    Excellent response so_far!!
As you get to know the basis of the conflict of sovereignty of the Malvinas-Falkland Islands, the world is sympathetic to the struggle of the people of Argentina and Latin America, against colonialism and imperialism in the 21st century English.

It's just that the President of the C24 has visited Argentina and no visit to the Malvinas Islands, occupied by British islanders. They do not have the necessary political stature. There are a nation. Conflict is sovereign. No self-determination. They are a colony established in 1833. It is logical that the islanders are British increasingly isolated from the world. His position is dishonest and incomprehensible, so do not listen.
In addition, Dr. Barry Elsby MLA, members of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands, lying shamelessly as well so_far clarifies.

Decolonization Committee is seen by most countries and the world public opinion as a United Nations Committee of excellent transparency and reputation in an effort to highlight and disseminate the conflicts caused by colonialism and British imperialism.

A major achievement of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner is to disseminate and make known the truth of the conflict in international organizations like the United Nations, Organization of American States, CELAC, UNASUR and MERCOSUR, She has made this on the agenda of world public opinion. The cause Malvinas has become a cause of strict justice Latinoamericana in defending territorial integrity.

I talk to regular people on the untenability of the Falklands position, how you as people are no different in how you got there than most Argentines are, how it is much better for us to focus on colonizing Antarctica, and on isolationism from the rest of the world.

Have you been on Mars for the last few weeks, the sympathy and UN support is clearly with the Islanders. “The main criteria of the main UN bodies was the Islanders right to decide their own future”. Said Ban-Ki Moon.

Oh and Britain is not breaking or violating any UN resolutions with respect to Falkland/Malvinas Islands or colonialism.

You do realise the C24 is the DECOLONISATION committee, not the SOVERIGN DISPUTE resolution committee. Exactly where else would its president go but to the alleged colony it is supposed to be helping. But no he goes to see the coloniser pending.

The C24 is soon to be reformed because it has lost all credibility, especially with the people it is supposed to be helping.

What CFK has done is make territorial disputes fashionable in S America, soon you’ll all have one.

When an entity whose SOLE AND SPECIFIC AND PARAMOUNT purpose was to prevent WAR (the security council), by having countries come in, sit down, and talk instead of just going off...

...when it is that very entity that creates the concept of “Preemptive War” (in other words, to go on an offensive war simply on the suspition of another threatening you), then you know that place is run by some funest, minatory people and nations, who have no respect for international law, peace, or other nations.

Right, but Ecuador is in the pocked of Argentina.

You people really can't see how ridiculous you look. When it suits you, you all spew out “South America is all disunited and fighting each other”, when things don't go your way “Oh X country is in the pocket of Argentina”.

Don't you see any contradiction between those two? Of course not, because you people have lost the plot blinded by the anti-argie diplopia with cataracts.

Ghana is not is own person, nor is any commonwealth nation. Everyone in the world knows that.

Aww you seem upset. Is it because you think yourself superior to Ghana and are mad that they don't see, what you believe to be true, Argentina's inherent superiority?

Are you upset because you can't bully or bribe them to do as you want?

Your whole post was laughingly stupid.

You who have never left your home province, who has never travelled and met the people of different cultures, cannot hope to comprehend how stupid and naive you sound.

I dare you to go up to a Ghanaian man and tell him that Ghana is just the lap dog of the UK. But you wouldn't do that, as you wouldn't have the courage to face another man to man.

You really are scraping the barrel of patheticness lately.

As for the actual theme of the thread, well I've made my views known.

And you woudn't say anything you have said about Argentina in my face. Or any other argentine.

I would tell the Ghanan that his country is not fully independent being part of the Commonwealth. Just a fact. It's nothing against Ghana I would caveat, the same applies to Canada, Australia, Kenya and the rest.

Remember you are the ones who are saying the Ecuadorians are in our pocket. I guess because you can't bribe them from London or you feel superior to them right?

    @157 - Tobias

    Actually I would.

I don't have a problem with Argentina, except for the fact that you are trying to steal land from and oppress the Falkland Islanders.

So yes, I would quite happily have a face to face discussion with an Argentinian regarding these matters.

The Commonwealth is a voluntary membership, no one is forced to join against their will. Indeed Cameroon and Mozambique have joined and they were never a part of the British Empire. It is you who is implying that Commonwealth countries are coerced by Britain, and you never provide any facts either, just make baseless accusations.

I have never said the Ecuadorians are in your (Argentina's) pocket, you appear to have made that up, haven't you?

The British don't go in for bribing people, but we do stand by the rule of law, so if someone acts outside of the law, they are punished.

No I don't feel superior to others, again this is something that you have said, probably because you feel it's true about yourself.

So once again, Tobias, you show your naivity and/or stupidity.

By the way, the Falklands are still British and will be as long as the people of the Falklands wish to be. Just like Ghana is a Commonwealth country and will be for as long as they want to be.

It must really upset the little fantasy you have built about the British being evil oppressors when all the former Empire countries voluntarily join the Commonwealth and share true friendship with Britain.

“In addition, Mr. Chairman and members of the Committee must be clear that there is not a government Malvinas independent freely chosen by its inhabitants. The executive management falls on a non-elective Governor appointed by the Crown. Any action, decision or public statement made by this official is made on behalf of Her Majesty, the Queen. Its functions and powers are more like a viceroy a governor.”
“This governor / viceroy accompanying two other officials of the metropolis, obviously not elective. The Administrative Executive, therefore, is outside of the popular will.
What happens to the legislature? The Legislative Assembly consists of 13 members, 5 of them being public servants belonging to the illegitimate governor and cabinet is appointed directly by him including body president. With this methodology, it is clear that there is, in the Islands, the division or separation of powers in the Islands.”
“The remaining eight members of the Assembly are elected by universal suffrage. Of the members elected to the Assembly in exercise, five were born in our islands and four of them have grown up there. The remaining three were born in the UK, coming to the islands during the decades of 80 and 90. In summary, 8 of the 13 members that make up the legislature are filobritánicos, native UK.”
“With the Executive Assembly could follow suit, but even more disproportionate. The body has eight members, chaired by the colonial Governor assisted by four Cabinet officials appointed colonial in the Legislature, including the Attorney General and the Colonial Commander in Chief of the British garrison in the South Atlantic!!!!!!, and there are two members who come the UK and only one island.”
“That is, in fact, do not govern the Malvinas native to the Malvinas, but citizens do natives of Great Britain in the Islands.”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harare_Declaration

We believe that international peace and order, global economic development and the rule of international law are essential to the security and prosperity of mankind

We believe in the liberty of the individual under the law, in equal rights for all citizens regardless of gender, race, colour, creed or political belief, and in the individual's inalienable right to participate by means of free and democratic political processes in framing the society in which he or she lives

We recognise racial prejudice and intolerance as a dangerous sickness and a threat to healthy development, and racial discrimination as an unmitigated evil

We oppose all forms of racial oppression, and we are committed to the principles of human dignity and equality

We recognise the importance and urgency of economic and social development to satisfy the basic needs and aspirations of the vast majority of the peoples of the world, and seek the progressive removal of the wide disparities in living standards amongst our members

Did not the UK violate the very first provision in their “preemptive” invasion of Iraq?

Yes they did. No UN resolution sanctioned the invasion of Iraq, and centuries of common law indicated that the attack of a nation that did not attack you first is in fact an act of agression and against basic human societal and international conventions.

Was the UK “suspended” from the Commonwealth when it clearly violated this core principle of the Harare Convention?

Double-standards much? Or perhaps, the UK in fact runs the whole thing and wasn't about to suspend itself (and none of the other countries had the power or the GUTS to motion suspension).

Argentina has always been “4th” in the Southern Hemisphere... yet in our 1st Four Nations we weren't blown out by 40 points a game as it was predicted in fact in all but two games the game was up for grabs aganinst NZ in Wellington, OZ in Australia and against SA in Mendoza.

#181 There is no English grassroots Basketball or Hockey, they're non sports in the UK. Though despite this we wiped the floor with your mens Hockey team at the Olympics (as we did in virtually every sport).

As for Tennis, a Brit is ranked 3rd in the world (after Serb and Swiss, note: Serbs are not the same as Croats), while an Argentine is at 7th.

Rugby: we won the World cup in 2003 and were second in 2007, not too bad.

Football: England progressed further at the WC in 2002, equal in 2006, and fell one level below in 2010. This hardly suggests Argentina is objectively is any better than England recently.

You're always saying that Argentina isn't interested in sports! Remember all your bleating over the Olympics?

Oh, so now in a (very) desperate attempt to divert the thread, you start spouting nonsense.

Never mind. Soon sport will be all the Argentine people have to take their minds off the state of the countries economy.

But in the case of the Decolonisation committee, well it's days are numbered, just like Argentina's erroneous claims to the Falkland Islands.

In March 2013, the Falkland Islands, will have achieved one of the preferred outcomes as stated by the UN decolonisation committee. The FIG will ask to be removed. If the decolonisation committee refuse to remove them, then the UK will take a motion to the UNGA asking for the committee to be censured or disbanded for NOT acting in a neutral fashion, and NOT abiding by its own charter.

Anyway you look at it, Argentina's spurious claims are FINISHED.

But that could be a good thing. Instead of always looking with envy on someone else's property, you could make something of your own country.

Get rid of the institutionalised corruption. Make arrangements with the international community to pay back your debts, and STICK to those agreements. In other words, show some good faith, and people will respond in kind.

Then the international community will be more likely to actually invest in Argentina. Help you develop your own natural resources. The Argentine government can then use the revenue to improve Argentina's infrastructure, schools, hospitals etc.

They will encourage foreign businesses to set up shop in Argentina, creating jobs, which creates consumer confidence, which helps the economy.

I know for Argentina, such things sound radical, but they seem to work for just about every country on the planet. Give it whirl, what have you got to lose?

Those countries you list were treated fairly, or in fact break the laws but because no one dares stand up to them like we do, get away with it.

Capitalism is now allowed to work in Argentina. When we gave it a shot in the 1990s, the Europeans and Americans came and split the pie into “monopolies” with no competition: the spanish grabed the banks, the French the water, the Italians the phones, the Germans the mass transit, the Americans the oil, the Brazilians the slaughterhouses, the Chileans the shopping strips.

There was no competition because they all made a grand pact to institute monopolies.

They then charged the world's highest water rates, the 2nd most expensive gasoline in the world, the highest phone rates in the world, and if you believe the Big Mac index Buenos Aires was one of the most expensive cities in the world, more than New York and London, for food.

On top of the world's highest utility rates, they adjusted fees according to USA or European inflation, not Argentine inflation.

You may not believe it, but in the 1999-2002 period Argentina had negative inflation, deflation, because of the dollar peg and the recession. The foreigners still adjusted prices by their countries' inflation (2-4% depending). Add that to the 1-2% deflation at home, and the rates increased 5-7% a year even as the economy was in a major recession.

    We remember all that.

    No mas.

Very funny you are mate, while you claim to pull out of EU and Isolation for Britain, a country so dependent on foreign food, raw materials, oil, commodities, etc as a good thing you claim the complete opposite for Argentina.

    Is not that very silly?

    Here a simple example...

If the world refuse to trade with Britain in a month she collapses is that simple.

On the other hand if the world refuse to trade with a country like Argentina, she will grow as ever before.

That is the advantage of having a large and rich territory with a good educated workforce.

I have never claimed that, you just made it up. I do want a referendum, because I think the public should have the right to chose for themselves.

If being in the EU is so beneficial, let the pro-Europeans explain why, and persuade the people to vote to remain in.

I also think the EU structure should be reorganised to curb the power of the bigg nations and give more power to the smaller nations.

But even if Britain left the EU tomorrow, they would still trade with us, I mean why wouldn't they? A customer is a customer after all, if they have the money to pay, why not?

In fact the UK has very good relations with most countries on the planet, I mean we treat others with respect, and don't throw our teddies in the corner and start falsely accusing countries of human rights violations when things don't go our way (unlike Argentina). In fact at the moment, Britain is considered the MOST influential country on the planet.

    http://www.theweek.co.uk/uk-news/50169/britain-most-influential-nation-it-wins-soft-power-survey

Your post was a bit silly now wasn't it, and completely made up and full of wishful thinking.

As for the world not trading with Argentina, that is close to becoming real, isn't it? Yes I'm sure Argentina could be self sufficient food wise (assuming the weather starts behaving) but you would be totally at the mercy of the elements. That's why trade is so important. By the way, Dany, would the people of Argentina be happy to go without all the luxuries that they are used? I know that people don't need them to live, but people want them, and wouldn't be happy if they couldn't buy that phone, or those video games or that designer gear.

Oh and Dany, do you now what a sepoy is? You obviously don't or you wouldn't have made such a comment.

@191 - Of course the UK would collpase in a month or so if we were totally cut off from the rest of the world.

But it isn't going to happen.

Even if we leave the EU - we would still be trading with them and there are other ways that we cooperate with our fellow European countries - such as NATO, the ESA etc. We would still cooperate with regards to crime and security etc.

I share LEPRecon's view - wer should be given a vote. My personal view is that the EU should not be a federal European state - and I am vehmently opposed to it in its present form. I want the UK to leave ASAP. For us it is poor value for money - we are a net contributor and it wants more and more of our cash. It is anti democratic in many ways - if you vote to oppose an EU move you get told to vote again and again until you give the “right” answer - which is to give the EU more power.

If your country was isolated, you too would suffer. Where else would you find suckers to give you loans you could default on? Your economy is already suffering, you would be in real trouble if no one wanted your goods or provided you with services, despite what you think.

    @LEPRecon

1-You are posting BS as always, your so influential country as you say (Britain) cannot influence much in EU, not either in SA, China, Russia, even former colonies have voted against UK influential power.
Not even can influence over Eucuador to take Assange out of their embassy. Ha ha

You could not be even able to dock any ship in SA if Brazil or Argentina desire so despite what morons says.

2-Don’t you say that a customer is customer and if he/she has the money to pay...why not?

Which of Argentina’s customers have stopped to buy from her?

Don’t bother not even Spain could cut Argentina off from the Bio Diesel business in its own territory.

3-About what luxuries you talking about? British food and high tech made in UK perhaps?. Oh! I forgot that you don’t produce anything valuable since the ’70.

“if they couldn't buy that phone”

4-Cell phones, PCs, communication devices, flat LCD screen TV, 3d printer machines, software, Arms, satellites, etc, etc. are made in Argentina. And in the next year 2013 Argentina will become one of the few countries in the world that can launch it own satellites to space like US, Russia, Japan, China, France and India. http://en.mercopress.com/2010/08/16/argentina-developing-satellite-launcher-ready-by-2013-in-puerto-belgarno

    @ shb

You have no clue about what are you talking about, Argentina have been isolated before like in the ’80 not even an imported screw you could buy on those days.

Its easy to make collapse a country like UK if you can isolated it from world trade but so easy for a country like US, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, etc. in fact will suffer you more in the process. Food will quadruple the price to start with...

Now lets see the following situation that scares your politicians on these days.

US in recession and EU in financial crisis will make Britain collapse because they are your main trade partners.

I guess that no need to even isolate you...

    @195 - Dany

Sure, Dany, keep telling yourself that Argentina has influence. You haven't, your incompetent government has destroyed Argentina's reputation on the international stage, and even you supposed allies wouldn't trust Argentina with a ten foot barge poll.

No one listens when Argentina speaks.

As for Brazil, well the UK and Brazil have very good relations. We are building ships for them, we have good trade relations with them, which are increasing all the time.

The same is true of Chile, very good relations, and increasing trade. The difference, Dany, is that Argentina boasts about how it has made deals etc. when they actually haven't signed on the dotted line. Invariably, because of your governments illegal seizure of Repsol, no country or buisness is foolish enough to put any money into Argentina.

On the other hand, Britain does quiet diplomacy. We talk to governments, show them the respect that they deserve, and don't screech about matters on the international stage. The British government don't make announcements on deals and trade agreements until everything is signed and sealed.

Argentina is teetering on the brink of yet another financial collapse. Soon you will have to rely on the good will of your neighbours. Yet your government continues to p!ss off those neighbours, because they have the complete inability to have humility and show respect for anyone.

The EU and the US will still be going long after your country has defaulted.

It's getting close. Ghana still has the Libertad, the ILOST will make a decision whether to accept the case or not on Thur or Fri of this week. The IMF will decide whether or not to censure Argentina on 17 Dec this year, they probably will as your government continues to lie.

Once denied access to international financial assistance, your president will sell Argentina to Venezula, and you'll lose your sovereignty.

    Good luck with that.

@139 Really? Shall we list the countries that assisted you in '82? Soviet Union, Israel, France, Peru, Libya, Brazil. But then, according to numbers of your compatriots, the whole international community is on your side against the nasty Brits. And, of course, the whole of South America. And the UN. Is that why your manky slag and her bumboys spend so much time running round the world telling anyone who will listen how hard done by you are? Couldn't you get La Campora to issue you all with the same song sheet?
@147 Why did you sign up? Why does your mama keep running there? Why don't you leave?
    @150 Prove it!
@175 Again, really? Where in the Harare Declaration does it say that pre-emptive war is not allowed. Saddam Hussein threatened the peace and security of the Middle East, as witness his invasion of Kuwait, his chemical attacks on the Kurds et al. Moreover, he had failed to comply with conditions under which we stopped the previous war. That may not suit you, but that's the way it was. When you encounter a mad dog, you shoot it. And, in the end, his own people condemned him!
@187 You are a joke! LEPRecon suggests that you use some maturity and you immediately see that as an attack on your “sovereignty”. Shall we make a list of all the people whose sovereignty you've attacked or intended to attack?
@191 Curiously, very few places have ever refused to trade with Britain. Even your mercosur is desperate to do so. However, when your economy and currency is in the toilet and people remember that you don't pay your debts, where will you be then?
@192 Totally agreed re the EU. We've been “alone” before. And I don't mean 1939-45. I mean from 1577 onwards.
@194 Also agreed. Mustn't forget that the UK's so-called trade with the EU is a lie. The statistics depend on the Antwerp/Rotterdam Effect. British exports that move via the European container ports to their final destination are counted as exports to the EU. Even if their destination is, for example, Chile.

Britains first satellite was launched in the 1960s using a Black Arrow (totally British).

Argentina is at least 40 years behind.

If you are so advanced where is your equivalent of the Eurofighter Typhoon?
This aircraft was preceded by the BAe EAP which flew in 1986 when you were putting the finishing touches on your basic jet trainer- the 'Pamper' which would make the UK forces laugh to death if it managed to reach the Falkland Islands.

Well seems you have all sorted out, so you just has to call Dilma and ask her to stop trading with Argentina.

    @Pete Bog

1-Argentina since 1960 have been launching rockets to the space and was the 3er country in the world to put a living thing in orbit in the space (Monkey) after US and France but that is not the case because we are talking about 2013 and not the prehistory.

The black arrow program was cancelled in 1971 and since then were no investment in the area.

And UK is far behind in aerospace research today compared with Argentina because UK has stopped all programs and now relays on 3er parties if they want to launch an egg to space.

Britain cannot launch even a rock to space today have you noted that?

All the manufacture sector after 30 years of neocon policies have been destroyed or moved abroad.

But you got nice banks in exchange the only sad thing is that you have to save them, but nothing is perfect you know.

2-Here we go again with your ferry tale about BaE and EUT, this was based on a German/ FMA collaborative design known as ACA (Avión Caza Argentino) and Dornier Gmbh and was called FMA SAIA 90.

And was planned to be manufactured in the ’80 The Argentina military Junta was at tah time facing economic problems and they were looking for partners and they offered to get into the project to McDonnell Douglas, Aeritalia-Aermacchi and Fairchild. They fail...

After the junta collapse all was stopped. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FMA_SAIA_90

After the deal collapsed with Argentina the German company could not get interest from the German govt. to invest in so they offered the project to private contractors and investors.

Also the Dassault/Dornier “Alpha Jet” is based on the collaborative FMA/Dornier Pampa design.

BTW BaE is not British anymore like BP because belongs to American, Italian, Canadian and other investment funds the last time I checked the shareholder composition of the company.

The British Empire ceased to EXIST more than half a century ago. Do try to keep up with the times.

Those former Empire countries now enjoy very good relationships with each other and with Britain. I know that this very idea that the UK is friends with all of these former Empire countries bursts your bubble about Britain being evil and oppressive.

But the UK show friendship and respect to our Commonwealth friends, and to EVERY other country on the planet. You do not have to be 'best' friends with someone to show them respect for their culture and way of life.

Argentina on the other hand, shows no one respect. This is what makes you really angry, isn't it Tobias? Other countries don't respect Argentina because your country owes them money, refuses to pay them back, and then lies and accuses them of human rights abuses.

In other words, your government is incapable of showing respect for anyone or anything, and will immediately screech on the world stage, lie about that country, and try to play the victim. It doesn't work Tobias, you'd've thought that would've filtered through to your lunatic government by now, wouldn't you?

    @201 - Dany

As for calling Dilma and asking her to stop trading with Argentina, why would we want to do that? The UK has no problem with Argentina, except of course for your constant lying about the Falklands, but unlike Argentina, we are not petty.

Tell you what, why don't you get TMBOA to call her 'good' friend Dilma and demand that she stops trading with the UK? I'm sure that Brazil would just fall over in their rush to do CFKs bidding....NOT!!!

Argentina doesn't get diplomacy, instead your representatives act like petulant children who, when they don't get their own way, cry in the hopes that people will give you what you want.

Brazil is leaving Argentina far behind and becoming a major player on the world stage. Argentina, by comparision, is a mouse constantly squeeking and a nuisance to be ignored.

That demonstrator was also build with the assistance of MBB and Aeritalia.

Based on the German design TKF-90.

Who seem to don’t understand is you mate. You have a design concept like an Ipad by Apple then the Chinese made something similar, change the position of some buttons, the thing does similar things and they named Eurofighter Typhoon with assistance of Apple.

And you then want to convince people that this is a Chinese design concept?
    Do you get the idea?

All previous work of BAE was based on V/STOL concept (AST-403) for replacement of the HS Harriers and Jaguars. The project was dropped because Germany, France and Italy didn’t want to join in.

Then France went on her own and end up with Rafale and the rest with EuroFighter TKF-90 concept design.

Then what are you going to tell me that F35 is a BaE concept design too?

Please go away as conversation with your poor level of English skills is most tiring. F-35 a BAE concept? Well sort of, the original blue print design is by Lockheed but with the project now being a multinational designed and developed one, it has become more diverse. Around 25-30% of the overall design elements are from BAE. Oh and did you look at the links I provided you? Heres another one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Aerospace_EAP

He didn't say that, fucknuts. Deflection, deflection, deflection.

As I said earlier, which is also stated in every link you've posted, the TKF design was ONE contrbutor to a joint design, some details of which made it into the BAe EAP demonstrator, along with a shitload of features from the earlier BAe designs (5 of them), plus Italian and French contributions. The TKF was not Typhoon Mk 1 and it was never built, unlike the EAP. To come full-circle, it had absolutely fuck-all to do with the SAIA-90 aircraft, which is what you claimed in the first place, before you started frantically googling for half-arsed and barely-understood 'facts' and links to support your nonsense.

Tell me again, Aviation Expert: How was the Alpha-Jet based on the design of the IA63. This was yet another one of your expert facts earlier, but you've gone strangely quiet on the subject.

Spares are rarely delivere quickly enough, in the right place and in sufficient quantities at the point of delivery. Sopwith Camels and Spitfires were cannibalised to keep others flying in high-tempo operations and the same still holds true for modern aircraft. Ah Biggles, still boring for Britain I see. I can just picture your hand movements in my mind's eye. You know, that affectation that JTechs in MT Squadrons like you copy from real airmen.

Don't bother answering but do please carry on here as long as you like. This item has run out of steam so I'm unticking that box below.

MT Squadrons? No such thing, Fake RN-bloke. But what would an Argentine know about such things anyway?

Oh you are a funny one Berger. I never said that the F35 was a completely BAE design. I merely pointed out that it has become a multinational-NATO designed fighter. As for the rest of your poorly written garbage I direct you to Mr Per Ardua. You keep deflecting the question because you have lost the argument. The TKF and the SAIA-90 have nothing to do with the Eurofighter.

Oh, I'm so glad I popped back to see if you had anything interesting to say. Lo and behold for once you do.

You can imagine, serving Queen and Country full time for 37 years get's you around and about a bit. Unpleasant people in tedious places are a professional risk you just have to take in your stride. So it was that one day late in my career I revisited an RAF Station not very far from the A1. Don't ask me to name it - that would only prompt the stupid question “what was the name of the pub outside the gate” (Universal answer - there isn't one). Suffice to say, it was the home of an RAF MT Squadron that hadn't been there when I last visited.

So to the point. MT Squadrons? No such thing, eh? I have proof there is at least one. Proof enough that you are either a Walt or you are extremely ignorant. Actually, I think there is evidence (not proof) that you are both.

Now if you still have any yourself, kindly back off from any further public questioning of my integrity.

Panto Queen - it's all fine to say, “I have proof”, but you had better post it. You're convincing nobody !!
