    Interesting, didn't realise Peru gave so much assistence to Argentina, and STILL got stabbed in the back via the Argentine support to Ecuador.

    When will people learn how to handle this country of seemingly limitless duplicity?

    Addressing the Argentine congress on Tuesday afternoon the Peruvian leader insisted that “in Latinamerica we are building a region of peace where we understand that the true enemies are inequality, poverty and corruption”, who then emphasized “we must continue united and nothing should divide us”.

    LOL it's the leaders of these countrys who are to blame for the above

    @10: hilarious isn't it? They say they denounce the junta and it's actions, that the war wasn't anything to do with this new “democratic and forward thinking nation” but then hand out medals to anyone who supported it, issues coins commemorating their activities, and conveniently forgets that the UN at the time told them to get the fudge out of the islands. The same UN they go crying to every time things don't go their way. Pathetic.little.children.

    Nothing to be concerned about. Let's see now. Argieland stabs Peru in the back and then, 30 years later, hands out a little medal a week before the Peruvian president visits. I wonder if Peru really is as stupid as argieland thinks it is? And as stupid as argieland actually is.

    The worrying thing about this article is that it is “malvinista-like”. With nothing else to say, it just repeats itself.

    I wouldn’t worry about it. It is all just symbolic fence mending. Humala is doing a great job dragging Peru into the 21st century.

    15
    LOLZ

    Peru sourced and supplied exocets to Argentina in addition to 10 Mirage 5. Peru’s support of Argie in the Falklands war was entirely derived from their animosity to Chile. Their designs over the north of Chile require support from Argie in the south. 1982 was their big opportunity. If the Argies had held the FIs, they would then have attacked southern Chile while Peru attacked from the north. I have heard, maybe Chicureo could shed some light, that as Chilean ships sailed south they were followed by a Peruvian sub. The sub was detected and sunk by a Chilean sub. The Peruvians never admitted the incident.

    It is interesting that although the headline says “Peruvian president tells Argentine congress of its solidarity with the Malvinas issue”, in the body of the article it never actually states that he did!!!!

    What he did say was “in Latinamerica we are building a region of peace where we understand that the true enemies are inequality, poverty and corruption”, which is rather ironica as standing next to him is Amado ”Printing press” Boudou and Mrs. Rokjes de Alperovich, two of the most corrupt functionaries in Argentina, also in Congress was Mr. Carlos Menem, who engineered the backstabbing arms deal with Ecuador. I'm sure poor Mr. Humala was very much on the qui vive!!!!!!

    Raul,
    Neither us nor the Peruvians care for your Falklands cause.
    Peru acted in self interest. Peru only wanted to get Arica back and we wanted to remain safe from Argie aggression.

    The Argie defeat was the best result for everyone. You should be happy.
    - The Falklands kept their homes;
    - you got rid of your murderous dictatorship;
    - we avoided war with Argie and Peru.

    If you had held the islands, Chile and Argentina would have gone to war and the loss of life would have been huge.
    Remember the Chilean army doesn’t have a tradition of taking prisoners...ask the Peruvians.

    Why do the rest of South America perpetuate this story that Argentina is some sort of Germany that wanted to invade Uruguay, Southern Brazil,Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay...

    Only Chile could have a legitimate gripe of that.

    And the fall of the dictatorship had nothing to do with the war. The war was a symptom of the falling junta.

    I was only making reference to Argie plans for Chile.

    “And the fall of the dictatorship had nothing to do with the war. The war was a symptom of the falling junta.”

    Yes it was a sympton, but victory would have been a temporary cure. The junta fell 3 days after surrender. Do you really think in case of Argie victory that the junta would have fallen in 3 days?

    The celebrations alone would have lasted 3 days.

    @33

    Reading comprehension test: is Pro_RGs conclusion supported by the text of the article?

    ”The International Maritime Organization (IMO) certified that the frigate Libertad is a military vessel and therefore it can not be seized, reported the ambassador to the UK, Alicia Castro.

    The test exhibited by the diplomatic showed that the frigate Libertad has no registration number defined for ships engaged in commercial activities as a warship.

    The notification belies versions who said that is assigned an identification number and therefore IMO is a ship of services.

    The agency, part of United Nations (UN) and headquartered in London, confirmed that “the IMO number 6125398 has never been assigned to this ship of war, or any other vessel.”

    The notification supports the legality of Argentine arguments to the effect that, under international law of the sea, the frigate Libertad enjoys absolute immunity and can not be repossessed.

    “It is worrying that some lawmakers and Argentine media spread false information that could hurt Argentina's situation against the greedy demands of vulture funds and against the national interest,” said Ambassador Castro, who is also the Permanent Representative of Argentina to IMO.

    The frigate Libertad is retained in the port of Tema (Ghana) from October 2nd order NML Capital vulture fund.

    Argentina's Foreign Ministry appealed to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, which convened hearings between the parties and gone tomorrow.

    How do you feel when you see these headlinbes when the Chilean President visited London recently
    Cameron and Piñera discuss Falklands, Antarctic cooperation and confirm close links

    Visiting Chilean president Sabastian Piñera and PM David Cameron reaffirmed the two countries long standing close relations, pledged to increase trade and acknowledged their views on the Falkland Islands and the coming referendum during a meeting on Thursday at 10 Downing Street.

    Argentina is extremely disliked by its neighbours paying Hitler Crsitina nothing but lip service and what she wants to hear-I'll let you know what the Peruvian president as to say when he stops by.

    37 Raul,
    “You should worship Pinochet.”
    Why? Do you worship Galtieri?

    You missed the point.
    In your post you praise Peru for providing support and weapons to Argentina, i.e. escalating a military conflict that (if the Brits hadn’t finished so quickly) could easily have escalated and involved lots of loss of life in our countries. I am not condoning Chilean slaughter of Peruvians, quite the opposite, I am pointing out that it happened and that if a conflict had erupted in 82 it could have happened again.

    Hence, if you are against war and loss of life, you should thank the Brits for bringing a swift conclusion to histilities, not the Peruvians whose actions endangered the whole region.

    “No true peace but comes with fairness, truth, justice, and solidarity.”

    Right, so show some solidarity with the people who have lived in the FIs for generations and never threatend you, rather than those provided you with weapons of war.
