Full article 290 comments

The Union for South American Nations (Unasur) agreed to limit the actions of ‘special situation funds’ (hedge funds or ‘vulture funds’) and categorically rejected a referendum that will take in place in the Falkland Islands in March to decide the political status of the archipelago, during the summit that took place in Lima. Unasur need to get serious. They let Argentina mess around talking crap about some islands nobody cares and about a solution to a bond problem that no longer exists as almost all have agreements re: number of people who say yes and no to a restructuring.

They could be talking about moving forwards in technological terms, Generating electricity in a green way, advancing education levels and eradicating corruption and poverty in the continent.

but no, lets talk about unimportant issues like some people deciding on their future and a debt caused by pure incompetence of argentine governments....

I see Argentina has been allowed to hijack yet another south american conference. I seriously wonder if the average man or woman in south america really cares that much about argentinas bogus sovereignty claims or the fact that they wont pay their debts.

Yes the reason for Argentinas problems is the ratings agency. If they didn't publish ratings everyone would be willing to lend to Argentina. They would be able to expand their spending programs and when the money needs to be rapid they just borrow more to pay it off. What could go wrong?

Lol - So the argentine posters tried to castrate the UK because the UK abstained from voting on the UN observer state status for palistine - Which the argentines refered to as self determination. Yet here we are with the south americans including argentina supporting the palistine status of observer state in the UN yet rejecting the falkland islanders rights to self determination.

You just can't make it up can you! They support palistine but refuse to even allow falklands to have the right of self determination, let alone recognise the islands as a self governing territory all whilst supporting palistines right to self determination, which is what the UK supports!

Also, for the record, the UK abstaining from the vote was about whether palistine should be given observer state status, nothing to do with whether they should have self determination or nor! So don't you argentines try saying otherwise!

You have to remember that trolls like Think and Dover think that us Kelpers should be seen and not heard at the very best if not forced to get on our knees and beg for crumbs. And God help us if we aren't grateful for what we get.

You also have to realise that they know their fantasies are hopeless despite their attempts to remain smug and intimidating. Come to think of it they're like they're in a panto all year round. Sort of like a Disney or Las Vegas show. Christmas all year round in Troll Land! LOL! And if it wasn't for those ratings agencies everyone would realise how healthy their economy was!

    @9 think

Let's see what Argentina is offering the Falkland Islanders to become a part of Argentina.

What Argentina wants to take from the Falklanders:
    1. Removal of their freedom.
    2. Removal of their right to self-determination.
    3. Removal of their right to speak the language they prefer, the currency they wish to use, and to drive on the proper side of the road.
    4. The right to exploit their own natural resources to the benefit of their own community.
    5. The right to become an independent nation at some point in the future.

What the Argentines want to give the Falklanders:
    1. A worthless currency.
    2. 25% inflation.
    3. Corrupt officials and government.
    4. Dictatorship.
    5. Oppression.

Here is what the UK offers the Falkland Islanders.
This is what the UK receives from the Falklands.
    1. A place to train troops.
    2. A stopping off point in the South Atlantic.

Here is what the UK gives the Falklanders:
    1. The right to freedom.
    2. The right to determine their own future.
    3. The right to exploit and develop their own natural resources for the betterment of the Falklands community.
    4. Security and protection from aggressive neighbours.
    5. The right to vote in their own government.
    6. The right to speak whichever language they wish, worship whichever Gods they wish, use what currency they wish, and to drive on whichever side of the road they wish to.
    7. The right to become independent any time that they wish too.

So Argentina offers the Falkland Islanders oppression, subjugation and probable ethnic cleansing, and the UK offers them freedom, safety and the right to live their lives how they please.

It's not rocket science to know that given such alternatives what the majority of people on the planet would choose.

UNASUR can try ignore the implications of the referendum, but come March 2013 the UN will acknowledge the result, and the FIG will petition the UN to remove them from the very defunct decolonisation list.

Face it, Argentina's claim is finished for good.

It would appear that Unasur in general and argentina in particular believe in democracy for some but not for others. Why is this? Is it because the Falkland Islanders speak English as their first language and not Spanish or Portugese? So argentina is guilty of racism as well as colonialism.

What it will do is tell the rest of the world that the people in the Falklands do not want anything to do with the crooks, the shysters, and the con merchants who think themselves the best thing since sliced bread was invented. Look the circus is in town.

But the clowns have forgotten 2 important points:

    1. Argentina has no legal nor moral claim to the Falklands

    2. Under the UN Charter, the Falkland Islanders have the right to self determination. Just as Ban Ki-Moon sais to an Argentine newspaper last month, quote: 'People should be able to decide their own future.' And as far as the Falkland Islanders are concerned - a future without Argentina.

Conclusion: the biggest clowns are the Argentinians.

It's hardly any wonder the rest of the world doesn't pay any attention to these political alliances since they are abused by Argentina and by allowing themselves to be abused they lack any credibility whatsoever.

    @49 Think,
l have never heard of half of your list, Think.
l think you're just making it up as you go along.
One term that you have listed though-“Flips”
Filipinos in PNG were refered to as Flips, but it wasn't an insult.
Along the same level as Brit, Aussie or Yank.
You are a big trouble-maker sr Think.
Anti-British for some reason & angry because you cannot get your own way as regards the Falklands.
Just a little research would prove to you that Argentina has no case.
Either you know this already or you refuse to do the research because you are frightened of what you will find.
Ergo, you are a gross hypocrite.
l recommend that you channel your abundant energy into helping make Argentina a safe prosperous country & you stop trying to steal what you KNOW you do not own.

Nothing new in this news. Who does not know that the “so-called” referendum is a fraud?. Again, Argentina should claim sovereignty over a county of England and we would call a referendum if its inhabitants to settle the question. All this shows Argentina's sovereignty over the Malvinas Argentinas and the absolute lack of geographical rights, legal and historical of pirates.

It seems you don't understand the difference between country and county and if that wasn't bad enough you've never had sovereignty over the island nor have you ever had your own population living there. You have no legal or logical basis to take sovereignty over the islands.

See you at the ICJ if you want a internationally respected legal agreement. Oh but that's right you refuse to go since you know you'd lose since you have no rights to be there you bunch of bullying thugs.

So, the house of cards is collapsing, more and more. The desperate Malvinista arguments are crumbling.

Think has wasted thousands of hours of his “life” trolling mercopress. Chuckle chuckle...and for what?

To support Argentinas....a) historical claim to the Falklands

Resoundingly proven untrue with historical evidence proving no civilians were ever “forcibly removed” or their “return prohibited”

    b) the UK breaking of UN resolutions regarding the Falklands

resounding proven untrue by the UN Secretary General

    C) the islanders are pirates with no right to self determination

Resoundingly proven untrue by the UN secretary General

So finally, and with the desperation of broken man, we finally return to the only argument they ever had:

The Falklands are part of Argentina because they want them to be. There is no historical, geographical or moral claim, in fact quite the opposite. but they want them, so, they claim them.

Ultimately CFK has achieved exactly the OPPOSITE of what she wanted.

The Argentine government NEED indecision on the Malvinas question
The Argentine government NEED something they can unite their populous behind
The Argentine government NEED a common enemy

the last thing they want is RESOLUTION. A referendum that the international community can see. A finality behind which nobody can hide.

think has wasted years of his life
    CFks legacy will be destroyed

    Chuckle chuckle

RGland says: “One is an explicit rejection to the self-determination and referendum that will take place in Malvinas islands and its eventual result.”

    We say:
Climb into the ring for a battle that you can't win
Swing as hard as you can swing, it will still mean nothing
Should’ve seen it coming, it had to happen sometime
But you went and brought a knife to an all out gun fight

And the only thing to save
Is the banner that you wave
To be wrapped around your grave

    You’ve gone too far
    (get up, get up)
Who do you think you are?
(get up so we can finish this)
Is this what you came for?
    (get up, get up)
    Well this means war
(get up so we can finish this)

Say anything you want, but talk will get you nowhere
The only thing you've brought was psychological warfare
Well there’s no getting out and now you got to wonder
Who will dig you out when you’re six feet under?

And the only thing to save
Is the banner that you wave
To be wrapped around your grave

    You’ve gone too far
    (get up, get up)
Who do you think you are?
(get up so we can finish this)

PressTV is a state sponsored News channel of the Iranian government - to quote from Wikipedia on it-
“Press TV has been the subject of several controversies. The station has been criticised for its uncritical embrace of provocative stances. For British journalist Nick Cohen the station is ”a platform for the full fascist conspiracy theory of supernatural Jewish power“[1] and for commentator Douglas Murray it is the ”Iranian government’s propaganda channel”

Maybe not the most reliable source for information........
A dry hole is not a humiliation- it is part and parcel of the oil exploration business. The huge fluctuations in share price are caused by speculative gambling on shares, and are not representative of the long term value of the prospects.

Never, ever, Inca-the-bitch would go to the ICJ in the issue of Malvinas because he knows he lost irretrievably. They themselves say Kershaw Report of 1983: “If the ICJ ruled in favor of Argentina, Britain would be obliged to provide adequate compensation islanders” in the same report also deny that they ever bring the issue offered the ICJ on Malvinas: only in 1948 did “dependencies”: read South Georgia and sandwiches.
Perfectly I distinguish one country (Argentina, Great Britain) of a county. Ironically (if not understood) by making England. NOBODY sure its sovereignty over a territory makes a referendum on it .... and Britain occupied the Malvinas Argentinas since 1833 ..... (minus 2 ½ months in 1982).

    Jose,

Quoting a report from 1983 really isn't relevant to the discussion.

Neither is claiming we occupied that fantasy country in 1833, given we were there far before that date in time, 1765 to be exact and to put that rather simply the Falkland's islands pre-date Argentina in country terms.

Not that it matters since they have been under British control for 300 years and the people of the islands having lived there for many generations.

Essentially you have no argument, not legal or logical to believe they belong to you. You can continue with the belief if you wish but it won't do you any good, it hasn't since you've had it (on and off since your government has radically changed it stance several times).

The referendum you seem to misunderstand, its not because anyone is in doubt over the sovereignty, it is to execute a legal position that falls under the UN policy of self determination which essentially trumps all other arguments that may exist. It is simply a move that is utterly devastating to the Argentine position and will effectively end the argument in relation to the UN.

As for your previous argument, it made zero sense and was utterly illogical.

The UN cited principle of “which trumps all other arguments Essentially That may exist” refers to Resolution 1514 of the General Assembly in 1960 whose aim was to end colonialism everywhere and in all its forms, complete statement:
    a) “All peoples have the right of self deteminación, by virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development”.
    b) “Any attempt aimed at the partial or total disruption of the national unity and territorial integrity of a country is incompatible with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.”
Let's see how long it was England in the Malvinas: only in Trinidad island, EIGHT YEARS from 1765-1774 when removed voluntarily and simultaneously with the French in Soledad first and Spanish from 1767. EIGHT YEARS illegal in Trinidad island, EXPELLED BY SPANISH.
From 1767-1811, SPAIN and until 1833 ARGENTINA REPUBLIC with five governors appointed by BUENOS AIRES.
    PIRATES, THIEVES WE WILL RETURN.
At the Referndum nobody gives importance and is just another maneuver over the English = kelpers, -is the same- to give a veneer of legality to the indefensible.

#125 Jose - the British arrived in 1765 and we haven't left yet !

The garrison was withdrawn in 1774 but the British were still there.

And Argentina never had any Governors there that didn't have British permission.

Do try and learn some history.

Sending a “Vulture” after a “Parasite,” somehow that seems to have a ring to it.

    a) South Americans dislike for democracy is a truism. That's why they're on the whole poor (economically and educationally).
    b) Why is the allegedly very very corrupt guy holding his fingers up a sign for victory? It's unclear from the image how he's victorious.

Herein lies the logic of Spanish speakers.

    @125 Jose.

In 2008 the UNGA resolved that the right of self-determination was not qualified by the existence of a territorial dispute.

    http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2008/gaspd406.doc.htm

Moreover, there is no question of territorial integrity, since the islands have never been Argentine. At least not according to Luis Vernet, his missus, and grandson.

In in his testimony to the C24 in June 2012, (with CFK, Timmerman and 90 others), Marcelo Luis Vernet quotes his grandmother's diary :

'Sunday, 30 August 1829 was a feast day for the village. Very good Saint Rose of Lima day, so Vernet has decided to take possession today of the islands in the name of the government of Buenos Aries”'.

So, Mrs V tells us it straight. If Vernet was only taking possession in 1829, then obviously BA couldn't have had possession before. No?

And Britain protests one month later.

(Funny, incidentally, that none of the vast Argentine delegation realised Marcelo just shot them in the foot in full view of the world.)

    www.embajadaabierta.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/vernet.pdf

Later, in 1856 Vernet himself writes :

“… the wish, to get my Colony under the British Flag, was in accordance with my own interests and those of my colonists, which required such change of flag; because situated as we were on the Highway of Nations, we could not expect permanent prosperity, unless placed under the sovereignty of a Government capable of protecting us against filibustering or other
    aggressions.

As to the grants of Land, wild cattle, and privileges, these were originally obtained not with the view to establish any claim to the Islands on the part of Buenos Ayres, but merely to secure the best protection I could for my new colony, from the Authorities for the time being, regardless who they might be.”

    www.scribd.com/doc/100678683/Falklands-War-The-First-400-Years-PDF

And I presume we don't need to go yet again into the expulsion of the attempted garrison in 1833?

The referendum is for 'WORLD' consumption, The Falklands to do not form part of the continent of South America, therfore thankyou for your views but they mean very little.
I can't see how Argentina can realistically keep banging on about this when the people living there have overwhelmingly rejected them. It will also be very difficult for the UN to ignore also.
The only way the situation will change is if there is a war and they are able to try and take them by force. They have a 3yr window for this before the first Queen Elizabeth Supercarrier is ready. They just need to sail through 400 km of sea gettting past the T45 Destroyers, Astute class subs and Tommahawks in the meantime, then deal with the Eurofighters and Rapiers when they get there. If you can do that..... great. Good luck with that!

How does it work in La Campora with these blogs, Facebook and Twitter assaults against anyone who is anti-CFK? Do you get allocated to a particular forum, for example, Mercopress. Or are you free to trawl through anything you like? Do your supervisors send you specific instructions detailing what to say and who to say it to or is it left up to you? I'm just curious really so it would be helpful if you could give me some insight. Are you all part of the same group that sends thugs to intimidate people or is that a separate arm? The question we should be asking is why are so many jewish people aligned to this thinly-veiled version of naziism? did they not read history books about WW2?

Got to love Jose's arguments, the make so little sense they are barely fathomable.

So Argentina has never had sovereignty over the islands but claims some bizarre form of inheritance from Spain which Spain refuses to acknowledge.

They then go on to claim self determination doesn't apply at the C24 forum for the UN. However this is highly amusing given one of the most sacred principles of the UN is self determination and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon comes out time and time again (including last week) to state self determination applies to the Falkland Islands which completely destroys any argument Argentina has.

The only thieves and liars here are the Argentinians who are trying to colonize the islands against the wishes of their true owners. It's a good job the British are available to annihilate any invading Argentine force when you've got a bunch of nonsensical bullying thieves.

We will crush you if you try to retake those islands.

Argentina will never be able to realise its true potential as a nation until the Argentine's understand and respect the wishes of the Falkland Islanders who have a right to self determination under the UN charter.

    From American Task Force Argentina

'American task force Argentina invites you to attend a breakfast brief: Argentina's Statistics and Runaway Inflation, Thursday December 6th, 2012 at 0900 am Rayburn House Office, Building B-369. Argentina's false information statistics have been questioned since 2007. These untrue and inaccurate numbers have cost investors $7 billion over the past 5 years, increasing the Argentine government debt and Argentine statisticans are fined for reporting statistics that contradict the government numbers. The IMF has given Argentina until December 17th to correct its statistics.'

Comment: It is quite an appalling fact that any Argentine statistican that contradicts the government numbers on growth and inflation is liable to be fined.

The Argentine government Agency INDEC still has 'the official inflation rate at 9% when the real figure is nearer 25%.

    Bring on the 'Red Card'.

Oh dear, sometimes I have to remember who my audience is. Your comments remind me of something your young sprog, Tobias/TTT/What's his name said once. I apparently mentioned a trip that involved too many continents for his liking so he spouted that we all brag about our travel and wealth.

Truly I wasn't trying to. He said he couldn't believe we'd all been to as many as 4 continents. I thought about that for a while and it put things in perspective for me. You see, I had trouble trying to think of someone I knew who had ONLY been to 4 continents.

So don't take it so seriously old man. Also, believe me when I say there is nothing glamorous about flying around the world all the time no matter how good the service. The bed I was sleeping on at 39,000' last week wasn't functioning properly. I had to get up twice and reset it because the feet end keep lowering down. Trust me, it's hell up there!

I think you should go to the Vic and shout what you said. Get Ali or Cath to introduce you to everyone. Don't forget a Fred's on your way out.

Curious you mention your episode with Argentinean Mr. Tobias......
I had a similar episode with British Mr Slattzzz in this very thread....:

At Post (60) Mr Slattzzz proudly declares that he has been to 46 Countries and 126 Places..... and asks about my own “record”

At Post (77) I tried to break it gently to him that I have visited a couple more Countries and places that him......
(As a matter of fact, “Thinking” about it, I have visited more than 46 Countries just when in Europe! (And I’m not even counting Scotland or Wales ;-)
    About his “126 places”….....:
Well ..... that’s roughly the number of populated places one went through when recentlywalking the 1,000 km long Spanish “Via de La Plata”.)

At Post (78) You can read his angry response……

Sooooo…..... You mean that “It is hell up there nowadays” because the bed doesn’t function properly?
You should try a“Tante Ju” or a “Vickers Viking” then ;-)))

@117 Silly child. Britain began settlement of the Falklands (there are still no Malvinas) in 1690. Formally claimed sovereignty in 1765. How do you think that Britain and Spain nearly went to war over the Islands in 1770. And Britain won! In addition, Britain isn't holding a referendum. The Falkland Islands are. Get used to it!
@125 No UNGA resolution is BINDING. And as Ban Ki Moon has said the UK is not in breach of any UN resolutions. Forget it. Your colonial dreams are over! Forever.
@146 You wouldn't want to buy anything on the Falklands. I reckon it would burn down shortly after your face was first seen. But there are some nice spots for people like you. They have barbed wire around them and warning signs though. That OK with you? Transport is good. You may be able to get to Stanley in seconds. Not all at once though!
@152 No, you don't want them. Never mind house-trained, they aren't even toilet-trained. The best thing is to feed a hook and line down their throats and then tow them behind a fishing boat well out to sea. Fifty or sixty miles would be a good start point. What have you got in the ocean that eats raw meat? Slowly.
@165 When were you hoping to get the Espora back? Before it rusts away?
@167 And fart in latinos' faces!
@171 Surely you're not suggesting that we should gas you and then burn you? Although.......
@173 All in one big glass crater then...........
@180 Aaah, whining. The CFK speciality. Mexico....whine. Iran.......whine. China..........whine. OAS......whine. Unasur......whine. CELAC.......whine. CAN......whine. Feel free to add other CFK whining locations.
@181 Go for that. And get shot down. Or sunk. Or both.
@185 There's always the argie hunting and shooting season. Followed, where possible, by the argie castration season. There's the argie gutting season. And the argie bait season.
    @188 On the seabed?
@190 Don't want castration? But it's such a tiny thing. Just you, a “friend” and a meat cleaver. Chop! Party chipolata.

@197 Why do we need to accept South America is anti-british. Chile isn't massively anti-british, neither is Guyana. We're also helping the Brazilians to build their navy.

Just because Argentina is some kind of cross between 1940s Nazi Germany and 1990s North Korea, without any of the successes and all of the bad bits, curiously supported by some of the most economically and morally barren nations on the planet, doesn't mean we need to stop buying and selling to you.

“One is an explicit rejection to the self-determination and referendum that will take place in Malvinas islands and its eventual result. This reaffirms Argentina and the UN’s 1985 stance.”

No UN resolution (even though unbinding) asking Argentina and the UK to speak has omitted self-determination or the islanders wishes as there is always a reference to UN principles and Independence which do not omit self-determination.
It is clearly incorrect to suggest the UN's stance is against self-determination as Ban Ki Moon himself told the Argentine press.

    @237

Firstly, you are repeating the usual error of assuming that the UN is some sort of fair minded court of law. A bit of it is (the ICJ) but Argentina, the UK and the UN Department of Political Affairs have all chosen not to go there for whatever reason. That leaves us with the C24, the 4th Committee and the General Assembly as the fora for political engagement. So yes, I'd stake my life on it not being the single event to resolve the dispute.

Secondly, more of the same I'm afraid. “I want it” might be the right characterisation of Argentina's motivation but it is amplified by the Latin American and Spanish support it gets along the lines of “They want it and we want them to have it rather than Britain have it”. You probably know the many historical reasons why this and they do include jealousy and spite. But that's politics. The UN is made up of very selfish States.

Thirdly, it really doesn't matter how long we have been successful in holding the Falkland Islands as a Colony, we signed up to decolonisation. The only real solution without ethnic cleansing is integration into the UK or independence. Choosing to remain a colony (BOT if you must) isn't really an option if they and we want the sovereignty dispute to be resolved in the eyes of the international community. By resolved I mean got off the UN list of non Self Governing Territories via the UN GA.

Finally, apologies in advance for the poor quality of my intellectual claptrap. I realise it is all nonsense but I just can't stop myself. I need the regular cheque from BA as a hedge against the fiscally embarrassed UK Government dishonouring its pension obligations to me.

    DD,
You've already stated that you think Integration to the UK will not happen. And by your reasoning, the ONLY alternative is full Independence.
You seem quite adamant about that point, having stated it before.

For a start, the Falklands are self-governing, and the Referendum will take into account their Self-Determination, to retain the status quo OR open the issue up to further discussion amongst themselves, as Self-Governing.

As Self-Determination is an underlying tenet of the UN Charter itself, that must take precedence over a non-binding resolution of an irrelevant committee.

Sorry it's not to your (Argentina's) liking. I'm sure you (Argentina) would prefer an unarmed Independent state that was ripe for Forced Integration (read Colonisation) into Argentina.

Isn't that your (current Troll name, and Argentina's) true preference??

You really should do your research better. The referendum will be open to anyone on the Electoral Roll. We have many Chileans who have taken up residency here and are therefore on the Electoral Roll.... as we also have St Helenans, French, Russians, Argentineans, and many other nationalities. This is a community with a mix of multi-generation Falkland Islanders, and more recent immigrants who have chosen to make this their home. (Very similar to the way Argentina's population grew......). So migrant workers who have stayed long enough to qualify for residency are entitled to express their wishes, including the resident “Chilean Population” (and the resident Argentinean Population).

    @241 - DOD

The Falklands are NOT a colony, and haven't been for nearly 30 years! GET THAT THROUGH YOUR ARGENTINIAN HEAD.

The British OFFERED to go to the ICJ on THREE occasions. THREE. Each time Argentina REFUSED!!!

Why would Argentina do that if YOUR case was so strong? Oh it's because YOU HAVE NO CASE. All you have is LIES, LIES, LIES MORE LIES AND LIES.

The people of the Falklands, and community OLDER than your beloved Republic of Argentina want NOTHING to do with you.

Why is that so hard to get through your bigoted national socialist views?

Face it, Argentina has never had and never will have ANY VALID LEGAL claim to the Falklands.

The only way to get them would be to exterminate the entire population, and become murderers. But in order to do that you will have to get through the British first.

Look to your own country and stop trying to steal someone else's.

The UN takes NO ONES side, and NEVER have. You are a fool if you 'think' otherwise. The UN was set up to protect people like those in the Falklands. And indeed they have become a self-governing overseas territory. They have their own government, and they can vote to become fully independent of Britain any time they wish. Argentina would NEVER allow them that right if they gained the Falklands, would they?

In March the Falklands will have achieved one of the outcomes as laid out by the decolonisation committee remit. They will have an independent vote on their status. The UN are not going to ignore the very thing that they have been striving for. If they do, then they go against the very principles of the UN charter. The UK would then petition for the C24 committee to be disbanded for NOT abiding by its own rules.

It's called a decolonisation committee, not a 'let's hand territories over to a 3rd party agains the populations wishes' committee. And the committee should tread carefully or they'll find their cushy number finished and they'll have to find new jobs.

The day Argentina gets their grubby thinly dirty hands on the Falklands through corruption,
Will be the day democracy ends, and dictatorships take over.

Wars will begin, millions will suffer, the innocent will get slaughtered, and the leaders will wallow in lavished lifestyles, provided by its deluded populist,

It would never happen, it will never happen.
    Still,
    One thing IS certain,
Sooner or later CFK will go, and fade into obscurity.
    Thank god for some justice…….

Don't be confused, CFK may go well (and hopefully soon) but the spirit about Malvinas does not lie on this government but on the hearts and minds of millions or argentinians.

And one day, justice will be done, and Malvinas will be one with argentinian mainland.

@233 It is the British Government that has said integration is not an option. So regularly and forcefully have they said it that I've concluded it really isn't an option. Which is disappointing because it's my favoured way forward. All those natural resources ( I really mean hydrocarbons) could then be exploited for the benefit of all UK citizens not just the 2500 or so with FI status. Faced with austerity or growth, I prefer growth but growth needs fuel.

As for your second point. The FI may well be internally self governing. The newly spun web site certainly pushes that line. The problem is that the Charter is strong on principle but short on definition. It's the member States that interpret it not lawyers and judges and not individuals like you and me. C24 may well be past it's sell by date but the 4th Committee is made up of all UN members as is the GA and it isn't redundant. They and not you, me, FIG or the residents determine if the islands are self governing, Clearly as yet they do not, partly but not totally because of the sovereignty dispute. A Referendum while the 2008 Constitution, or anything like it, is extant is not very likely to achieve any change to this demonstrable reality.

Independence, by the way, is a second best but shares one common advantage with integration and the status quo. The Security Council would engage if there was a military threat to an independent or integrated FI. That's in the Charter too but it doesn't rely on the totality of UN GA membership for its interpretation and it's resolutions are not optional.

Perhaps you could now stop this childish preoccupation with puppetry and start to engage with the issues?

@247 All citizens with FI status no matter where they came from. They have, to use the time honoured expression, thrown their lot in with the Islanders otherwise they wouldn't be on the electoral register. The Constitution confirms this, even though it has been removed from the new FIG website. Presumably the reality sits uncomfortably with the spin.

I 'think' you have little understanding of how the UN works. It's common for Argentinians. The UN say that the opinion of the people of the Falklands are of paramount importance, and must be taken into account regarding Soveignty. You Argentinians 'think' that means that the UN is telling Britain to hand over the Falklands lock, stock and barrel regardless of the wishes of the only indigenous population the Falkland Islands have EVER known.

Tell me, DOD, why do the Falkland Islanders scare you so much? You are so afraid of them that you wish to take their liberty, their land and their property from them. 'Think' about that. A population of 40 million afraid of 3000 people who have made a success of their lives and their Islands.

No wonder the world laughs at the patheticness of Argentina when you act in this bullying and cowardly manner.

    223. ”From the preamble to the Referendum Question “Given that Argentina is calling for negotiations over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, this referendum is being undertaken to consult the people regarding their views on the political status of the Falkland Islands”
By its intransigent attitude and behaviors, Argentina has made itself the issue of the referendum; however, the FIG (who called the referendum) is outside Argentina’s jurisdiction. Therefore, Argentina has no control over the decision to take this question to the people of the Falkland Islands, the timing nor any other matter associated with the referendum. It is totally outside Argentina’s control. Also, by its rather strange decision to reject the outcome of a referendum before it has actually been held, it has lost an opportunity to play a constructive part in discussions on the future of a territory that, as they never tire of pointing out, is in their neighborhood. By their own actions they have dealt themselves out of the discussion and therefore, do not matter

I think you will find that if Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Peru had to choose between a few thousand Euro/Brit/Northam tourist on a ship... and a few hundred thousand argentine tourists (which in all these countries make or break their tourism economy), they will choose the “right” side of the bread.

I think is about time CFK ban Argentines from travelling to these countries if they choose to anchor British, Euro, and North American cruise ships who then go to the Falklands.

That's just your desperate attempts at poorly veiled hyperbole.

The tourists will be paying with hard currency (even if its pesos), and your attempts to discredit the Argentine tourist, pretty much the back-bone of the industry in most of South America, always been and you know it, onlly fool the most credulous and gullible (Punta del Este, Camboriu, Porto Seguro, Viña del Mar, Jose Ignacio, Reñaca, La Serena, Buzios, Floripo.... all owe their existence to the ARGENTINE tourist... the tourist from Europe and the USA discovered these places much later when the towns were already MADE into something by the argentines).

And this has remained so through a couple of real crises in the past... there is no crisis now (no matter how hard the mercopress anti-argie coven smokes opium to make it happen). Did you know even Macchu Pichu has Argentines as one of their biggest drawers?
