Drag errant fishing boats into the Port of Gibraltar and have them made subject to the Gibraltar Law.

Any 'force' attempted or real by the Spanish Police or Navy should be robustly countered by the Royal Navy, not Gibraltar Police, as it has clearly gone too far for local police actions.

0.50cal BMG fire on the waterline should cool the Spanish blood without actually spilling it.

The action of the Spanish Government clearly parallels that of Argentina over the Falklands and we should not make the mistake of responding to it too lightly.

One short, sharp, action would be all that is needed to see the Spanish off.

Spain biggest industry is Tourism. Spain receives more tourists from the UK than from any other country.
Solution = UK holiday makers stop taking holidays in Spain, because of their treatment of one of our overseas territories. If this happened Spain would collapse economically. Attitudes would soon change...

    Someone should start a campaign.

The government here in Spain have lost touch with the general public. I have not met one person in my province that is remotely interested in Gibraltar and believes the government should be putting all it's effort into the sorting the economic mess - electing Rajoy was a mistake.

So at long last the government has been forced to upgrade its response,
That’s great news for Gibraltar, and bad news for Spain, and even worse news for CFK ,

    As we have said before,
You keep pushing, and then eventually you will have to back it up,
The very tough Spanish are rigid when dealing with little boats,
Perhaps we will see just how big these bully boys are when facing down a frigate or destroyer, and even a few apache gunships,

The pushing will soon be regretted by the Spanish, fools.

[A ship to far,, we think .lol.]

We are undoubtedly moving toward an increase in the RN presence around Gib.

Ultimately the Spanish are going to have to back down, meanwhile they pay the diplomatic and ultimately economic price. The last thing they need right now is a boycott by British holidaymakers, in some parts of southern Spain it’s the only thing keeping them alive.

Ultimately the EU courts and institutions will back the rights of the people of Gibraltar, no question. This is a no win for Spain, except as a short term distraction from domestic problems at home.

Might be an idea to consider trying to solve some of the domestic issues, instead of just trying to distract Spaniards from them.

    Just a thought.

Apache gunships can cut a fishing boat in half. And a Guardia Civil boat. They can also be “on-scene” in minutes. First step - warning. Second step -shots across the bows. Third step - start chewing the boat away. Fourth step - missile the trespassers.

Seems there's 47 million Spaniards. Is there a difference between spaniards and argies? Do they float or sink? No post-mortems for the sinkers.

Is there any reason to think that latinos aren't scum? Similarities? They lie. Continuously. They refuse to submit to international law. They steal. Or try to.

Who's been to Gibraltar? It's a lovely place, isn't it? Spanish weather but British laws, customs, traditions, character. Wouldn't Spain be better if it was British? Real British. Not EU PC British.

So let's do what we need to do. Protect Gibraltar. Return Spain to its previous attitude of terror-stricken. Remove state instruments used to pressure Gibraltar. No more paramilitary Guardia Civil thugs. No more Spanish armed forces. No more tyrannical border controls.

And then move on to argieland. They have no courage as we understand courage. Break them. Break them to submission. Why are there more than 10 million argies? Let them learn the lessons of their history. Exterminate. Is there any argie (as opposed to sane, intelligent argentine) who deserves more?

If you detect a canker, you cut it out. argieland is a canker. So is spain.

Stick with evolution. Destroy the useless. And who is more useless than argies and spaniards?

I'm sure Spain will be trembling in its metaphoric boots.

The critical issue here, which the article completely fails to mention, is that the British Government recently lost a crucial appeal before the European Court of Justice (ECJ) relating to Britain's claim to Gibraltar’s territorial waters.

Britain was seeking to overturn an earlier judgement dismissing its legal challenge to the European Commission’s approval of a Spanish EU nature site in the disputed waters. The latest court decision follows the Gibraltar Government’s defeat before the ECJ last August in a separate case on the same issue.

By ruling on two separate occasions against the UK and Gibraltar, the ECJ has in effect ensured that Spain continues to have a listed nature site in Gibraltar waters.

Spain has never recognised claims to British sovereignty over the waters of Gibraltar and is unlikely to do so in the face of empty British posturing now. Mr Hague should have another Bex and a good lie down, the so called 'glory days' of the British Empire are long gone I'm afraid.

The comments from certain individuals on this topic is astonishing!Spain and the United Kingdom are NATO allies.EU partners and have alot of trade between them. Comments of the Spanish are scared are really unbelievable, Spain has an army and navy and an airforce and ps we we can shot too.i reckon this will all go to the courts and the United Kingdom will lose in court because the ruling on the nature site has been passed in law by the European Union firstly and the Spain passed a law after that ruling , so in theory the United Kingdom should declare War on the European Union ?for having passed a ruling allowing Spain permission to have a site in it;s waters.ps the treaty of 1713 states that the fortress, town and port of Gibraltar are ceded. If the navy goes then the spanish navy will follow suit to defend itself.

Spain does not like the British tourism. It is tired of drunk slobs from England coming over and making fools of themselves jumping from hotel balconies into swimming pools ( and missing their target) good riddence..bye bye. and I am afraid that if it gets ugly in Gibraltar it is going to generate hate towards anything British including all those residents now living in Spain....all because a few idiots in Gibraltar..Oh well that is life!! By the way tourism works both ways..there are many thousands Spanish students studying in Britain..like to know what the ESL schools in Britain have to say about it....

Spain loves his British guests. Certainly there are hooligans and thugs, but as in Spanish families. The vast majority are families and retirees looking to enjoy the climate and quality of Spanish life. Hundreds of thousands of them live here already. In fact, the Gibraltarians could continue living in a Spanish Gibraltar enjoy all their rights (seek the legal term 'Fuero'). But of course, it's more fun to live in the 50s, and to think that Spain is a third world country which to mock.

@10 The critical issue here is that a so-called ECJ judgement was handed down by a Spanish judge who should have disqualified itself. But when has Spain, like argieland, ever played by the rules unless it suits? How many times has Spain been challenged to take the matter of Gibraltar to the ICJ? Has it ever dared? No. But let's do it “the old way” if you like. First we sink the “navy”. Then we beat the shite out of the army. Done both of those before. Then the “air force”. Well, what have you got? 18 Dassault Mirage, 45 Typhoons and 86 Hornets. And yes, we know you've got 17 Harriers. And we know how to shoot them down as well. How are you going to get on against 207 Tornados and 140 Typhoons.
@13 Silly little boy. Go read your precious treaty again. Does it mention Spanish “territorial waters”? It doesn't. So Spain doesn't have any territorial waters either? Oh, goody. Watch out for what we can do with that. Since your education is so remiss, you might want to note that “territorial waters” didn't exist in 1713. A state “owned” those waters over which it could fire a cannonball. No international law on “territorial waters” until 1982. When Britain got territorial waters around Gibraltar at the same time as other coastal states. Pity about that, isn't it? You wasted all that time typing out your garbage.
@14 Youtube links are not a comment. And you should note that all comments must be in ENGLISH! Are your little videos in English?
@16 And Britain doesn't like Australian tourism. Aussies should get back to humping their sheep and trying to catch roos.
@21 Spain IS a third world country. I had to drive through it to get to Gibraltar. Can you imagine a hotel in any CIVILISED country refusing to allow someone to use its toilet? There's one in La Linea.
@24 Not for more than 300 years.
@27 No, they are not startling. When you trot off overseas to conquer things, do you not send your best? So let us, instead, think how lucky Spain is to have survived. For now!

@30 Well in most cafe bars that provide customer toilets you do not need to ask, you just go. The fact you had to ask, suggests there were no customer toilets but only staff toilets in private staff area of the building. It is perfectly legal to refuse a customer the use of private staff toilets, especially if it means they get access to secure areas or the kitchen where customers are not permitted to be due to security, hygiene or health and safety reasons, which happen to be very strict legal requirements here in the UK. So chances are you were refused due to legal reasons regarding hygiene, as you simply can not just walk through a cafes kitchen without wearing appropriate clothing and head wear and without following health and safety hygiene requirements! if you think am wrong, then provide details of the cafe bar, its name, its location etc!

Conquers experience is different, he referred to a hotel, which undoubtedly has customer toilets!

It takes more than equipment to make a fighting force as AG well knows after the 1982 fiasco (when the UK kicked your arses off the Falklands: STILL no Malvinas you prat). Spanish military have no experience of modern conflicts other than internal strife.

Spain will come to its senses soon enough and a little skirmish in Gib waters will see to that.

    Whats so funny?

Let’s review the facts. Lord Elgin paid the enormous sum of £39,000 to acquire the marbles, and was careful to obtain documents from the Turkish Government approving their removal from Greece, which had then been part of the Ottoman Empire for 350 years. Since Parliament legally purchased the marbles from Lord Elgin in 1816, the British Museum’s title to them is unassailable. The Greeks know this perfectly well – otherwise, instead of pulling this PR stunt, they would be suing Britain in the European courts.

It is hardly surprising that, given the staggering number of problems facing Spain, Madrid is lashing out at an easy target with little chance of damaging consequences. Britain would never do nothing to add to Spanish woes. Waving the nationalist banner is important for Spain's increasingly fragile internal unity and HMG should remain sensitive to this while not backing down on any principles of international law. Nevertheless, London might wish to remind Madrid that the UK is a trusted friend and, with the onging dispute over Argentina's patently illegal seizure of Repsol, Sr Rajoy's plate-spinning act to keep the IMF-EU-ECB Troika on hold and -- last but not least -- the outstanding 80,000,000,000 Euros owed by Spain to Britain, friendship could turn to frostiness -- a headache Spain could do without at the moment.
