EU and OAS agree to support peace project in Guatemala/Belize conflict

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the European Union signed an agreement to support the Peace Fund project, Implementation of Confidence Building Measures in the Adjacency Zone between Commonwealth member Belize and Guatemala, managed by the hemispheric organization. Read full article

    What I like is that they effectively settled their differences and agreed on the borders back in 1991. Then a new Prime Minister in Guatemala decided to renew the claim - not based on previous treaties in 1859 - but on the papel bull deviding the world between Spain and Portugal.

    He stated that they inherited Belize from Spain so all the land belongs to them.

    hmmm.....Reminds me of Argentine logic!

    The new President of Guatemala is I think an extreme right winger with a grisly past in the army. However this process seems to be very civilised, they are sitting down and having talks; if its OK to do with the fasist general, why not with the left, pro-human rights Cristina?!
