If push comes to shove they should concentrate on ensuring the highest return on capital employed in the assets that remain. It could eventually be good for shareholders if Clarin uses it as an opportunity to focus on what they are best at.

but judge Alfonso must be questioned if he is quite clear in his brain. why didn´t he give his first sentence free for appeal immediately? possibly ck had cut off the microphone...
Simon68 made a good point about this. The president claims that Clarin and some all powerall kingmaker in Argentina with power to topple a government at a whim. During the last elections, Clarin was at the height of its power and the election was a cakewalk for CFK. As such, this is purely a move to disband an organisation which is capable of being a focal point for any organisation which may arise in the future...

She's basically doing the same as Mao when he closed all the tea-shops, because that was where he had spent all his time professing marxism, and academics met to discuss anti-government topics. He was simply removing the tools that he used to rise, and would allow others to rise against him.

Even with this 'law', the company has the right to dispose of its own assets.
And why should the law specify that *only the most profitable* must be sold off?
This is terrible law and terrible application of political power. The judiciary should - rightly - distance itself from such blatant political manipulation.
@7 the law basically needs to allow KFC to force Clarin to sell the assets to some La Campora terroristas for next to nothing. Then La Campora can start their own TV show called 'FEAR Quebracha' which will be piped into schools 24/7.

Hi Think. Weren't you claiming this as a CFK victory on Saturday ? Another example of CFK and her “successful lawyer” career which made her millions... Pre-judging Griesa and not thinking there might be an appeal in this case shows razor sharp legal skills don't you think ?

Where are our argies and malvinistas? Why aren't they here explaining how this is all part of CFK's “cunning” plan? Is she more concerned about getting kicked out of the IMF, the G20 and any other financial organisation?

Why do you think Nestor Kirchner was such a supporter of Clarin, granting the licences that are now being revoked by CFKC?

I mean, he needed her to stand in for him for one term but he certainly didn't want her to be so popular that he couldn't take up the reins again. That was always the plan until Nestor died suddenly. Maybe he was complicit in the Clarin backlash against CFKC when she made that disastrous decision to take on the farmers?

That family was very divided. There is something slightly looney but very personal about CFKC's obsession over bringing Clarin down.

But there hasnt been a military coup in the last 30 yrs ... Seems a bit over dramatic. In a country as unstable as Argentina 30 years is a long time. Let it go. Things have moved on.
At this rate, it doesn’t look like this is going to be enforced this side of a re-re-election.

Further more, since Nestor granted these licences the Kirchnerists have grown in power and popularity. The only thing I can point to is the farmers’ dispute. Is CFK going to prosecute Clarin for its role in helping the dictatorship? If not, why not?
