The Falkland Islands are an British Overseas Territory by choice, entirely self-governing except for defence and foreign affairs and have been settled for at least nine generations, well before Argentina even claimed what is today Tierra del Fuego, points out the Falklands’ elected government in a release-reply to the open letter from Argentine President Cristina Fernandez published on Thursday in the British press. All we want to know is when will UK give their firm rights to return to UK rather then illegally occupying Argentina. Your President has lied twice on your behalf today:
1) suggesting Argentine civilians were expelled.
2) suggesting that Patagonia was Argentine in 1832.
But, absolutely zero evidence as to why the Islands are part of Argentina.
No Spanish inheritance
No territorial integrity
No civilian expulsion
No historic claim
No moral claim
No geographic claim
Argentine history in the islands summarised:
Colonialist intention, violence, mutiny, murder, rape, retreat, lies, Nazism, cowardice, invasion, cowardice, humiliation, more lies, whining, Botox.
British history of the islands:
Peaceful colony, shipping, trade, withdrawal, shipping, peaceful settlement for 150 years, bravery, heroism, removal of fascist junta, peaceful settlement for 30 years, massive oil discovery!!

Jan 03rd, 2013 - 08:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I read the load of drivel posing as a serious journalistic article.
Specifically looking at the section where the UK was militarising the islands. As part of the build-up, the article reported the following :-
”There are also 101 minefields on the island covering twenty square miles, containing 25,000 mines (according to US State Department figures).”
What you were meant to believe was that these were currently laid by the British forces.
What they failed to say was that these were laid randomly by the invading Argentine forces in 1982 WITHOUT clear plans as to where they were laid !
The rest of the article is about as truthful as this.

“who for nine generations have lived and worked these lands”:
It will not be your case, is not English?
“The Falkland Islands had no indigenous population..”:
And!!! Does that give you the right to steal if it belongs to another? In India when he broke the English civilization were millions of Indians, which did not stop running out to ask permission to say much.

@51 Less baseless opinion more sources please Mr Sauceless Opinion
Jan 03rd, 2013 - 10:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@51 José . The principle of self-determination does apply to the Question of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas because the Islanders were subject to rule by British colonial government & thus listed as a UN Non-Self-Governing Territory under UN Charter Chapter XI Article 73 entitled Declaration regarding Non-Self-Governing Territories
Jan 03rd, 2013 - 10:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Strictly, the UN Charter issue is not a question of sovereignty, rather a question of removing colonial rule from the Islanders through the process of self-determination
Specifically both Argentina & Britain must support this change under UN treaty obligation; furthermore Argentina is obligated to support the British implementation of Article 73 via Resolution 1514 as Argentina voted for 1514 & is a UN Treaty signatory. In accordance with this Declaration the British government as the Administrating Country must develop self-government by transfer of all powers to the people of the Islands & the British government must report annually to the UN Special Committee on Decolonization who's terms of reference are defined in resolution 1654 as to examine the application of the Declaration, to make suggestions & recommendations on the progress & extent of the implementation of the Declaration, & to report to the General Assembly
With respect to the question of territorial integrity, the effect of the UN Charter is not retrospective & does not apply to disputes before 24 October 1945. In terms of the UN Treaty, Resolution 1514 protects British interests as Great Britain exercised sovereignty on the Falkland Islands/Malvinas at its inception & 1514 protects Britain from the self-determination of the Islanders if it would disrupt British territorial integrity & national unity
Only the existence of a sovereignty dispute was noted in resolution 2065 & both Argentine & British governments were invited to find a peaceful solution by the UN General Assembly; Argentina chose war in 1982 & resolutions 1514/2065 have remained unresolved because of this

Jan 04th, 2013 - 12:45 am - Link - Report abuse 0Ja, Ja, Ja, do not make me laugh! If there is not a question of sovereignty the UN charter, how can colonize a country without recognizing their own territory where it exercises its sovereignty?
It seems that the UN has been wrong for decades according to this interpretation pirate, according to Resolutions 2065, 3160, 31/49, etc.. etc. etc.., which urges Parties: ARGENTINA and BRITAIN (not the islanders) to resolve the ISSUE OF SOVEREIGNTY (which is ultimately all that matters, like it or not like).
You're not gonna fool me with ridiculous words twisted in other words what you're saying is that Argentina should see the way to go peacefully relinquishing its sovereignty to the Malvinas Argentinas in talks with the lovable very kind Inca-the-bitch the framework of UN Resolution 1514. RIDICULOUS, is the opposite: It is clearly effective transfer of sovereignty to its own unique autentic: the Republic of Argentina.
@60
Jan 04th, 2013 - 01:16 am - Link - Report abuse 0No way, José. There is no UN resolution anywhere that a) excludes the islanders from negotiations b) requires negotiations on sovereignity and c) mandates as outcome a transfer of sovereignity to Argentina.
All the UN has asked for is a peaceful resolution of the dispute. A peaceful resolution in this context, might be for example, that Argentina finally recognises that 3000 islanders 400km away aren't a threat to the national manhood, although this is obviously a long term solution that requires an abandonment of propaganda and brainwashing in the education system.
This won't happen overnight, but reading comprehension would be a good place to start. Try some UN resolutions, for example.
Is CFK working for Cameron? I do not think so.They are partners, both are crooks!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA young: You are SOOO UGLY!
jose: The brits anti argentines in this forum, are useless unemployed....
Of course the UN recognizes a dispute...MALVINAS ARGENTINAS, Happy New year jose!
@60 José. You are correct to perceive you are wholly wrong on your understanding of this & there is no UN requirement for transfer of sovereignty to the Republic of Argentina at all. Quite the opposite: The UN Treaty requires transfer of power to the Islanders
Jan 04th, 2013 - 01:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0General Assembly Resolution 2065 merely notes a dispute over sovereignty between the governments of Argentina & Britain & invites Britain & Argentina to find a peaceful solution subject to bearing in mind three requirements, namely:
1. the provisions & objectives of the Charter of the United Nations
2. General Assembly Resolution 1514(XV)
3. the interests of the population of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas
Nota Bene: Article 73 of the UN Treaty states:
Members of the United Nations which have or assume responsibilities for the administration of territories whose peoples have not yet attained a full measure of self-government recognize the principle that the interests of the inhabitants of these territories are paramount, & accept as a sacred trust the obligation to promote to the utmost, within the system of international peace & security established by the present Charter, the well-being of the inhabitants of these territories, &, to this end:
to ensure, with due respect for the culture of the peoples concerned, their political, economic, social, & educational advancement, their just treatment, & their protection against abuses;
to develop self-government, to take due account of the political aspirations of the peoples, & to assist them in the progressive development of their free political institutions, according to the particular circumstances of each
territory & its peoples & their varying stages of advancement;
Article 103 affirms in the event of a conflict between the obligations of the Members of the United Nations under the present Charter & their obligations under any other international agreement, their obligations under the present Charter shall prevail
The UN ICJ always upholds its Charter
Which is why Ban Ki-moon stated that the wishes of the Falkland islanders were paramount. It doesn't matter what Argentina claims, or what Britain claims for that matter. The overriding concern of the United Nations is that the Charter is upheld and that means Self Determination and the interests of the population of the Falkland Islands.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 02:06 am - Link - Report abuse 0The only way that Argentina could ever achieve sovereignty over the Falkland Islands would be if the Islanders wished it. However, because Argentina has been aggressive to them, that is never going to happen. The United Nations will always respect the right of Self Determination (as Britain does), but Argentina denies these rights to the Islanders and in doing so, Argentina is forever cursed with never being able to obtain sovereignty. The Falkland Islands will be a permanent embarrassment for every Argentine government, until they learn that it is better to try and entice the Islanders with friendship, than to attack them and bully them.
Here's one for CFK:

Let's see what Resolution 2065 (summarized because otherwise cut):
Considering that Resolution 1514 is inspired by the cherished aim of ending colonialism everywhere and in all its forms, in one of which fits the case of the Malvinas Isles, the General Assembly invited governments Argentina and the United Kingdom to pursue without delay the negotiations ..... with due regard to the provisions and objectives of the United Nations Charter and of Resolution 1514 as well as the INTEREST of the POPULATION (NOT WISH) of the Malvinas Islands.
In other words: Let's stop FUCK and see mode Transfer the sovereignty
#66 Jose: Rigth.Every expert in international law interprets that.Self det,nOt applicable in the MAlvinas case.

@66 it isn't in the interest of the population to become part of a corrupt fascist failed state and it is up to the citizens of the Falklands to decide what is in their interest
Jan 04th, 2013 - 03:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0@66 José. All agree on Resolution 2065 that:
Jan 04th, 2013 - 03:59 am - Link - Report abuse 0a) a sovereignty dispute exists between Argentina & Britain
b) that resolution 1514 applies to the case of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas
c) the GA invites the governments of Argentina & Britain to pursue negotiations to find a peaceful solution to the problem
bearing in mind:
d) the provisions & objectives of the Charter of the United Nations
e) General Assembly Resolution 1514(XV)
f) the interests of the population of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas
You say only f) applies
In post # 63 I explain that the negotiated solution to the problem agreed between Argentina & Britain must be consistent with d), that is Article 73 regarding Non-Self-Governing Territories
Transfer of sovereignty to Argentina &the modalities thereof is only the Argentine side's political objective for the outcome of the negotiations excluding the terms of d) & e); in particular, it is the opinion of the Argentine Junta under Galtieri
Remember, according to e) the peaceful solution must, as you agree, take due regard of resolution 1514 which declares: Immediate steps shall be taken, in Trust and Non-Self-Governing Territories or all other territories which have not yet attained independence, to transfer all powers to the peoples of those territories, without any conditions or reservations, in accordance with their freely expressed will and desire, without any distinction as to race, creed or color, in order to enable them to enjoy complete independence and freedom.
Remember, in 1945, 1961 and 1965 the Islands population were subject to unfair undemocratic British colonial rule and its removal was required by the UN Treaty which is why the UN Charter and resolution 1514 covers the case of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas
There were negotiations to find a peaceful solution in line with UN Resolution 2065 between Argentina & Britain but Argentina terminated negotiation in 1982, initiated hostilities & lost
No new negotiations is Argentina's fault
Is it just me or, with the recent ratcheting up of the Falkland Islands issue by the Argentine government, have many of the Malvinistas on here become almost desperate in their postings?
Jan 04th, 2013 - 04:20 am - Link - Report abuse 0I know they always exist but they can't offer anything new or concrete, not one actual indisuptable fact. Every 'fact' they do offer up can so easily be disproven that it is almost embarrassing to read their flailing around.
Quibbling over single words or sentences in decades old UN resolutions is salving when they realise the the UN Charter not only supercedes this but will over rule anything. Hearing it from the UN Secretary-General is conveniently forgotten.
After all Resolution 1514 talks about the interest of the population and not the wishes. How those interests would be served in Argentina is never discussed.
Self-determination is of course a pick and choose option. The UN can ask 615 Tokelauans what they want (twice) but for some reason the Falklanders can't be asked.
Documentation held by the Argentine government that disproves their claims is also quickly overlooked. And when faced with British documentation the topic usually turns to historical histories that have nothing to do with the issue.... or worse talking about the UK economy as if this suddenly changes everything.

If the colonist want to be British let them go back home, if they want to be Argentine they can stay in Argentine as they are, I am in Canada facing probable deportation for not doing my papers, I don't think think they should be treated any different. I will like to ask this reporter if he considers Patagonian indians, people? according to him there was no people in Malvinas but history and evidence says diferent, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falkland_Islands the british in the Malvinas should be thankfull that they don't run the same fate as the Patagonian idnians.”

But it is so funny to watch them squirm and deflect so that people will discuss anything... ANYTHING other than Argentina's non-existent proof of sovereignty.
Just googled BA Herald to read their take on the Suns letter. Read this with interest:
Jan 04th, 2013 - 08:07 am - Link - Report abuse 0”Former Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana expressed his support for “keeping (the issue) high” on the agenda, insisting that “the British will sit to negotiate when they realize that not doing so will be the more costly option.” Taiana's was the sole vocal statement coming yesterday from the Argentine Foreign Ministry. Minister Timerman has been silent lately.
I wonder what he means by, more costly option.”
A vieled threat? or just something lost in translation, I wonder?

Legally, Argentina started a war, and being the great legal mind that I am, I would simply call upon the principle of Uti possidetis. The Argentines created a negotiation by arms, and seemingly lost.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 11:11 am - Link - Report abuse 0That's basically the case closed from a legal perspective.
True, but I see forsee a problem there.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 11:56 am - Link - Report abuse 0The problem being that, Argentina thinks they won!
Resent history is more relevant then vague misappropriated history dated near 200 years ago. i find it funny that Argentina continue to refer to this issue based on a false history

Jan 04th, 2013 - 01:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@82 You're just upset because the Falkland Islands don't have a crypto-fascist dictator that releases murderers from La Campora controlled prisons in order to do crimes for her at weekends. It's easy to compare the two societies and see how one went very very wrong and the other one, the falklands, turned out quite nicely.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 01:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We can see your pain on this issue.
...and have been settled for at least nine generations, well before Argentina even claimed what is today Tierra del Fuego
Jan 04th, 2013 - 01:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This is a key point. Islanders must insist in divulgating this fact in all the countries of the region: Chile, Urug, Brasil, etc.
It is a historical, undeniable and absolutely essential fact but remains totally unknown for the vast majority of people (including argies). Most probably islanders does not understand and even ignore this. But if they want more attention and support to their desires they must divulgate this extensively in south american countries. It's a crucial point and it will be very well understood for chileans, uruguayans, brazilians, paraguayans, etc. This is a perfect momment, when all are bored and tired of Argentina, and sick of their version of history.
The Suns letter in the Buenos Aires Herald.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 02:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Although both the Spanish and English versions appear in the Herald, both Clarin and La Nacion have run this story also, although the letter itself is only partly reproduced in these papers in English and in both cases covered by fairly extensive reportage. The readers comments are surprisingly mild on the story in most cases
So the claim tby the malevos on this site that the story would not be read by most Argentines is balderdash
So what results are to be anticipated?
1. An attack on the Heralds offices by Maximos Sturmtruppen La Campora, probably with Molotov cocktails
2.Closure of the paper by the govt using some excuse based on the Media law
3.Should the Herald own thier premises, immediate sequestration of the same without compensation on a trumped up excuse as happened last week with the sequestration of the Sociedad Rural Argentinas national showground and premises in BA
Probably all three.
This will upset almost the entire press which are very concerned about freedom of the press

Britain settled the Falkland Islands in 1766, prior to the Spanish settlement and claimed it in 1690. Britain like many countries did not accept that the world could be carved up by the pope in favour of the Spanish and Portuguese.
The pope was not the UN.
Spain is not Argentina.
Spain gave up her claim to the Falkland Islands with an official visit saluting the Union Jack well after 1833.
”During all these years (66) had no English in the Malvinas Islands and Argentina Spain first and then “reigned” in the entire archipelago, without complaint from any country. ”
Raul, are you being serious?
1778 – a large number of ‘maruading‘ sealers, American and British, are noted by the Spanish force at Soledad.
1783 – Captain Frost in the General Knox, hunts seals at the Falklands.
1786 – Lt. Thomas Edgar in the whaler, Hope, surveys Falkland Sound.
1787 – the British whaling ship Amelia, under Captain James Shields, visits the Falkland Islands.
1788– British ships visiting the Falklands and South Georgia include the Lucas, under Captain William Aiken, the Intrepid, under Captain John Leard and the Quaker under Shadrick Kearn. Thomas Delano in the Lord Hawksworth leaves South Georgia with a full cargo of seal furs.
1790 – October 28th, Britain and Spain sign the Nootka Sound Convention
1791 – Captain Eckstein in the whaler, Sydenham, visits the Falkland Islands. South Georgia is visited by Captain Cook in the London, William Clark in the Sparrow and Christopher Horner in Astrea. Captain Eckstein in the whaler, Sydenham, hunts near the Falkland
(Thanks to a previous poster today-there is more to come Raul as it won't all fit on one post).
Maybe it's just me, but I cannot seem to understand why Argentines are so dreadful at any kind of reasoning. You would have thought that the large influx of Germans in the 1940s would have provided their spanish genes with some logical thought.

Jan 04th, 2013 - 03:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0BTW wasnt there a self styled King of Patagonia once , a Frenchman to be sure, who issued decrees in his own name? Perhaps the Falklanders should be talking to his descendants. Oh dear see he has renounced his claim so no go
The last British possesion in continental France (Calais) was lost in the time of Queen Mary 1st yet the following monarchs still claimed the crown of France and included the fleur de lis on the royal coat of arms. I think this continued until about 1780 in the riegn of George 111. A bit like striking a special Argentine coin for the Malvinas perhaps?
So on this basis UK DEMANDS ( to use Kspeak) the return of France and while they are at it, the United Provinces of the Netherlands (William IV) and Hanover also (George 1st)
So you see how hollow and facile your publication of a list of paper governors is. Which of the ones on your extensive list were specifically mentioned as being govenors of Les Isles Malouines, Falklands or Malvinas? DO TELL US
@92,93 They're how I would imagine arguing with a child would be, who has been given a script to read, and at some point has completed reading the script and is incapable of independent thought so just resorts to blowing raspberries or saying 'na na na na na'.

Argentines are not moron; the thoroughly indoctrinated self-deluding fools who are the most prolific *supposedly Argentine* poster son this forum, are.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 03:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You can always spot the real Argentines though: they are polite, reasoning and capable of following real history - not the propaganda version promulgated by CFK and other Argentine governments.
The problem here is not with Argentines, it is with desperate populist Argentine Governments.
It is the Argentine Governments who have deliberated chosen a conflict with the Islanders, rather than a partnership.
It is the Argentine Government who spews revisionist & wholly false history, not the Argentine people.
It is the Argentine Government who lies, obfuscates, deceives and fawns; all in the effort to distract from its failing popularity.
D'ont make this a nationalist issue, because it isnt: its just yet one more failing Argentine politician desperate to gain favor with the masses.
And finally: all the history of the falklands is now irrelevant: until anybody can legally prove at the ICJ that the Islanders do not ahve the right to self-determination then its *tough luck CFK*.
Saying they dont doesnt count, go prove it in court THEN come back: until then everybody in the real democratic world will assume, and act as though, they do have that right.
Learn to live with it...everything else is hot air.

Jan 04th, 2013 - 03:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They were voted in by blocks of vote purchased for a box of food and some pesos.
The curse of the Argentine political system and the ease of vote-rigging is not a reason to despise a nation's population: if you do you are nothing more than a xenophobe and racist.
Cast your darts at the government, not the people, or find yourself classed in the same type of person as CFK or the malvos on this forum.
@98 so, if you follow your theory of strict apologism: a) the germans weren't ultimately responsible for their actions in 1930s thru 40s; b) the 'japanese weren't ultimately responsible for their actions in the 1930s thru 40s; and c) the argentinians weren't ultimately responsible for their actions in the 1980s.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 04:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The issue here is that someone is ultimately responsible for the creation of a political and socio-cultural system that says corruption, lies, coercion and theft are acceptable.
So in your opinion, who is responsible for the current actions of the argentines? and should they start another War of Aggression, who would be responsible then? No one, I presume.
Anbar, The GENERAL Population has voted for or shall I say allowed, for 150+ yrs successive corrupt governments. So, if they aren't dumb what are they? Lazy? Corrupted? What?
Jan 04th, 2013 - 04:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The people apparently want to be ruled by filthy corrupt animals that shouldn't be managing a lemonade stand much less a country and most of them should be in jail or put against a wall. Yet over and over again you get a bunch of hoodlums stealing vast fortunes while the population gets poorer by the day.
They MUST see how wacky CFK is, how much money she steals, how terribly stupid and corrupt her minions are, so again I say what is the general population doing about it? Nothing! So again are they dumb or just lazy?
It takes a lot of work to make a country so rich in resources poor. A lot of work! Yet time goes by and the country gets lower on the GDP list. It is sad and I definitely blame the general population. It is their fault for letting it happen.
They get what they deserve.
On second thoughts, I'm not a big fan of predeterminism, so taking the morally libertarian viewpoint, we all have free will therefore have to take some responsibility for our actions. Hence the legal system judges our ethics, what we did right or wrong.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 04:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0In the case of Argentina, they either voted, or abstained from voting because they felt the system was rigged. Their responsibility is then either to accept they voted a crypto-fascist into power, they voted against a crypto-fascist or allowed other people to vote a crypto-fascist into power. If they felt this was wrong, then it's up to them to engage in thoreauvian civil disobedience. Bar a bit of looting, no one seems to be doing that.
The people are ultimately responsible for their governments, either through their choice of action or inaction. The Argentines were culpable for the 1982 War of Aggression, and they're they're responsible for their current government.
@100 - Yankeeboy
Jan 04th, 2013 - 04:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I agree.
The privilege of living in a democracy is tempered with the responsibility that the people (or voting public) must assume. It is the duty of the citizen to ensure that their elected officials act correctly.
It appears that the Argentine population just shrug their shoulders and accept corruption as a way of life. Until the people get off their backsides and decide for themselves how they want their country to be, then it does become their fault, and their responsibility to fix. You reap what you sow.
So if you sow bad politicians by voting them in, then the consequences are that you will reap a bad, corrupt government.
@102 This quote is attributed to Jefferson, I think, which is When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. [1] If the people of Argentina actually 'fear' the forces of the Front for Fail, the brown shirts of La Campora, and the criminal gangs of Vatayon Militante, then they should just admit that they are subject to 'tyranny'.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 05:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0KFC certainly does not fear the people of Argentina, so they need to have a good hard think about what precisely is governing them and ultimately they are responsible for the bed they have made.

103. When I lived there, I asked why Peronists keep getting elected when everyone hates them and they know they are doing a terrible job managing the country, the response was, no other party can get elected because the Unions will make sure the gov't fails.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 05:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It is a sad and very messed up country.
They lack hope and don't know what to do about it.
The smart and upper middle class have the ability to escape but the rest are just miserable people living in fear watching their savings disappear.
I get emails from friends all the time asking if I can help them get a visa to come to the USA and unfortunately for them the answer is no.
I was reading an article today about the blue U$ exchange, this alone should be enough for nightly protests and it floors me that the people just accept the misery and try to work around it. So does that mean they are lazy or dumb? I would really like to know.
@104 I'm not the sort of person who likes to circle other people's misfortune like a vulture, but ultimately this is a situation of their making.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 05:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Unions are typically a democratised movement that represents the workers rights, when confronted by those of a more powerful organisation. This is often a necessary exhibition of democracy, but they typically manifest socialist with often communist leanings.
Peronism is not socialist, it's ultimately right-wing. So why the hell are these socialists keeping 'the third way' parties in power, causing pain to ultimately themselves? From my high level viewpoint it seems nonsensical.
Surely if people are so left-wing crazy, they'd be better kicking out the Front for Fail and getting themselves some socialists instead.
They're clearly uneducated in any kind of political philosophy or thought.

YOU do that, not them. YOU.
Its all very high & mighty to say Its their fault but its often nothing to do with reality.
How much of the UK supported Blair's decision to go to war with Iraq? Bet your ass it wasnt a majority, and what happened, did the UK population as a whole stop that government doing as it wished? No it didnt - so everyone one of you is morally culpable for a war started on the basis of deliberately doctored reports and fake fears of WMD, morally and politically bankrupt in every aspect.
Not such a great stance now is it?
It is utterly naive and completely short-sighted to stand there screaming all Argentines are XYZ - it never will be true and it will only ever breed a situation where YOU recruit for those who would oppose you. it is YOU who stir up hatred, it is you who convince fence-sitters that the facts are unimportant compared to nationalistic feelings, it is you who convince the neutrals to take the other side, it is you who convince the rest of Latam that the UK is arrogant and colonial...because that is precisely how you act.
And all the time you think you are bigging it up over the malvos? sheesh.
You are doing exactly what you keep laughing at CFK for: Shooting yourself in the foot because you cant reign back on the nationalist rhetoric.
And somewhere in that breeding ground of animosity and nationalistic contempt you seem to think you are doing the Falkland Islanders a big favour.

The jurist Rosalyn Higgins President of ICJ arrived at a similar conclusion when she pointed out: No tribunal could tell her [Argentina] that she has to accept British title because she has acquiesced to it But what the protests do not do is to defeat the British title, which was built up in other ways through Argentinas acquiescence. 1

@112 Well, we thankfully voted out Tony Blair and his third-way maniacs. However, the poor people of the UK still think he's quite a good chap and that Peronist-Blairite 'Communist-veiled Fascism' is a thing that should govern us into eternity.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 07:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Apparently you also think people that 'mix it up a bit' have no place in this world, are redundant and having not attended the type of educational establishment that has a debating society, you don't see the value in thinking from all sides of an argument.
Finally, FYI 95% of South Americans exclusively speak spanish and/or portuguese. Chileans and Uruguayans are the only people who are really outgoing and modern enough to see the value in the English language, and they are unlikely to get a rise out of everything that is written here. The few Argentines in attendance are so cognitively broken when they arrived that I doubt we turned them into nationalistic stalwarts.
Hope you got all that.
I read what you say and can agree about the irrational hatred expressed on both sides BUT a point to take notice of is that there cannot be more than 40 posters in this forum and they express THEIR opinions.. I would suspect that the people in the UK are not particularly antagonistic to the general Argentine public; as for the Argentinian public, I have no idea what their opinion is. You will never get an ordered debate on the subject because both sides are entrenched in their beliefs.
Jan 04th, 2013 - 08:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It would be to go against Holy Writ to agree with the other side.
From an UK perspective, we hear all the pronouncements FROM YOUR GOVERNMENT, about the UK militarising the S.A with nuclear weapons - blatant lies.
We heard a speech from your defense minister that the only thing preventing Argentina from taking the Falklands was the UK force stationed there.
We see burning British flags, attacks on tourist offices with your police watching and doing nothing.
Your reference to the IRAQ war omits the fact that about one million people took to the streets to protest against it.
In1982,crowds took to the streets in BA to cheer the invasion of the Falklands, not to protest against it.
We get regular insults against the hated Anglos, the worst nation on Earth, responsible for every crime known to man, etc.
Maybe we, as adults should turn the other cheek but human nature is not like that. We assume that the Argentinians posting here are expressing the opinions of the population at large and reply in kind.
Think on this, you are a Falkland islander who daily hears threats and demands from your government that the islands should be handed over to them. They are told by the posters on your side that they should either except their lot or go back to the UK. although their descendants go back 6 generations.
How would you feel? I would feel extremely worried unless I had someone on my side - well they have !
As I have said several times, it is a form of baiting which gets out of hand.
Clyde I was agin the second Iraq war and wrote to the Foriegn Office protesting and got the usual bromide back. I was however in favour of the First Gulf War whenIraq invaded a soveriegn country Iraq. Even Argentina was and I think offered to send two frigates to beef up the naval task force. Bit illogical wasnt it . Saddam reincorporating an independent country as the 19th province of Iraq.Isnt the Argentine claim on the Falklands a mirror image of what Saddam did?

I recognize that comment that shows the full exercise of sovereignty over the entire archipelago of the Islas Malvinas Argentinas, first by Spain and Argentina immediately after.
As some of these intruders think is fantastic, was not included for reasons of space, the degree (high) of the marines of the Spanish Armada that ruled continuously for periods from Puerto Soledad, which, of course, after the encroachment the british appoint him again as Port San Luis was founded Louis Antoine de Bouginville.
In relation to this character, a descendant of him, Count Francois de Bougainville, said in 1982:
Argentina is the rightful heir of the Spanish Crown and so, the archipelago, adding: consider legitimate holders of the Falklands are British, is to say that the Queen of England can exercise sovereignty in New York .
Sds!
Ah, so the opinion of a descendant of someone who kicked the bucket 200 years ago over rides the human rights of nearly 3.ooo people living today does it?

Mate I am with Anbar on this.
Firstly the Nazis claimed that they had a mandate for what they did in the 1930s and 1940s from the German people. The fact that they did away with free elections following the 1933 vote nulls and voids this claim I reckon but that is just my opinion.
Secondly I personally think that Ted Heath was a traitor and a scoundrel for deliberately misleading the British people into voting yes to membership of the EEC back in 1973 by leaving out imprtant details such as the planned, slide stage by stage into EU federalism. I wasn't old enough to vote at the time so how could I be held responsible for the actions of those that could?
Thirdly I think that attacking the Argentine people is counter productive. There are pleanty of them on the fence and plenty of them who know the truth but if you alienate them they will always come down against you. That is politics I know but it is also a fact of life.
Wonder what her next stunt is, like I said previously, my money is on the IOU Libertad docking. She is absolutely going to use the occasion to bring it up again. Something along the lines of, we triumphed over the hedge funds, together under my leadership we will retrieve our beloved Falklands (There are no Malvinas.)

Meanwhile back in real land, the Libertard will only be seen along the Argentine coast.........and mostly in port.
And we will get another laugh at her expense.
Lets be clear here all Argentines love and support CFK that why we voted for her and will vote for her again to stay in office, we also support a nuclear defence program 100% made in Argentina to stop the expansion of the British colonies in Antarctica Argentina, we support the British illegal aliens in getting their self determination recognised in UK not Islas Malvinas Argentina, we agree that fakland holding is a British firm and they can go back to UK ASAP.

Jan 04th, 2013 - 11:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So it would seem that Britain has taken everything by force does it. Wonder how Argentina became what it is. Oh pardon me for even thinking it but did not Argentina kill of the indigenous people the actual people that first settled that lans. Did Not Argentina steel land from their neighbours.
Not really sure what qualifies you to actually sugest otherwise.
One thing is crystal clear to the World is that The people who came and settled the Falkland Islands were people who wanted to find a new life in a distant place. The Falkland Islands was bare of all people and therefore was legally right that these pioneers make it their home.
There is an Argentine myth that the people of the Falklands were implanted. It is total rubbish and your government knows it. But then again when someone wants to steel your homeland then of course they will oinvent many lies to achieve their aim. Unfortunatly for The Argentines the Falkland Island people have a very solid case and one that is unblemished as they did not kill anyone to aquire what they have.
This claim has been going on for many years and many have lost their lives over it. Pointless to say the least but rest assured the people of the Islands will not cow down to any CFK bullying. Remember in 1982 Argentina was given a thrashing for attempting to take our homeland by force. Also remember that our society believe in the right of self determination and nothing in the world can change it but the very people who make that statement and believe me it is not going to change anytime soon so Argentina had better get used to it.
I propose we treat the Islas Malvinas British illegal aliens the same way The brits dealt with the Romanian gypsys in UK. We can go pari passu on them all the way, who can respect pirates and land thieves, who can ever respect people who name themselves coca cola, what a joke respect is earned not just granted, history is not in the British side there are over 100 colonies all over the world thieving the worlds natural resources.

Jan 04th, 2013 - 11:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The guy who wrote the article, claims to be a PhD candidate, and seems to have written another badly edited piece for the new statesman on the same issue sans the comedic imagery [1]. This has been reiterated at the General Assembly.” Well, that's clearly just utter nonsense, showing a complete lack of factual knowledge and massive bias.
There are some pretty dreadful quality articles out there, and new statesman appears to be printing them all. Desperate times.

The Falklands Issue in the eyes of the Argentines will never go away even if the entire world leaders signed an agreement that gives the Falkland islands people the right to live the lives of their choosing.
Jan 05th, 2013 - 12:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Saddly the successive governments of Argentina have never been able to run their Country that would bennifit their own people and as a result those people consistantly rise up against the Governments in power.
Untill a more mature people take control of the situation Argentina will always us the Falklands issue or Chille as a means to divert real internal issues from boiling over. Clearly this has never worked and always the leaders fall one way or another.
That is why we Falkland Islanders know that we will always be on the list of diversions.
Falkland Islanders are among some of the finest world leaders around , never war mongering, but intelligant enough to run a very successful economy. That is where the real problem exists.
Argentina who refuses to acknowledge that we even exist is also extremely annoyed that we as a people and small country in the southern region have been so very successful.
When the oil eventually flows our Country will be one of the richest per capita on the planet but it does not mean that we will become even more greedy and violant.
Violance and aggression never wins and Argentina really needs to address those two principles first.

I presume you meant to say invaded Kuwait.
At my advanced years, I think it is about time we butted out of being part of a world police force and stay out of regional conflicts unless we have defense treaties with the countries involved.
It costs British lives, large sums of money and we get nothing out of it. The Falklands is a British problem and we are duty bound to do something about it.
