In Argentina they advise their navy not to visit places because the bailiffs and debt collectors will be waiting for them. And they couldn't even get THAT right. LOL

Let me help you out of your ignorance. My understanding is that when the Frigate Libertad approaches the Argentine mainland, it usually enters Uruguayan waters. By tradition, a Uruguayan frigate comes out to salute her and escort her to Argentine waters. The same happens whenthe Uruguayan Navy training ship Capitan Miranda enters Argentine waters.

No, it is built of naval steel, imported from my country the USA, held together by steel rivets, the first of which was installed by President Juan Peron on the inauguration day of the Rio Santiago Shipyard in 1953. It is the only sailing ship of its kind built in Latin America. Peru will soon have its own locally built sailing ship for its Navy cadets to be named La Union. It is unfortunate that the US Navy does not have a sail training ship. We do have the historic USS Constitution which is anchored in Boston Harbor as a Museum. She is very old It is only occasionally sailed into the harbor for re-enactments of it’s kicking of Royal Navy Bootie in the War of 1812. It was a great victory for our young nation. The US Coast Guard has a training ship, the USCG Eagle, which is a German built WWII trophy. Her condition limits her to US coastal cities and occasionally the Caribbean.
I recall reading that in 1998, during the Menem Détente years (should have taken him up on his offer), she sailed to the UK. A RN cadet was invited to sail on her and was given command of the ship for 4 hours as she sailed and moored into harbor. The cadet’s eyes were filled with tears of emotion throughout his experience.
I had the chance to visit her numerous times while I was in Buenos Aires. It is a great ship and has a great permanent professional crew for her upkeep.

It is a floating Embassy and, if needed, is equipped to provide all of the services, ceremonies, and obligations as any Argentine Embassy. That is why Argentina has designated it as it’s flag ship. What better and more honorable role for a ship of this type exalting peace and friendship between the nations of the world. .
This is true of all sailing training ships in Navy inventories.

People cant just get on with their lives. The system is always meddling, interfering and stoking up the people. Everyone is kept anxious, the system is unstable and its just how the 'government' likes it. Argentines are either dependent on the government for survival or are punished for trying to take responsibility for looking after themselves.
If you didnt vote for the system and disagree with its policies you are treated with utter disdain, an enemy of the state and not simply and correctly as an Argentine with every moral and legal right to hold a different political point of view.
Its a shame that a country with it all (it must be in the global top 10% for most space and resources per head of population) still operates like a backward frontier town after many decades of a system that clearly hasnt worked in unifying, stabilising and developing the country.
I mean how much time does it need to stabilize and establish itself? Germany and Japan started from almost zero after the war and within 30 yrs had transformed themselves into the most wealthy, stable, egalitarian democratic countries in their regions and with far less opportunity than Argentina has. There are many other countries too that have managed to prosper in spite of lack of abundance of natural resources, and pressure of influential external forces. Argentina has no excuse.
Its sad and a huge waste for Argentina living with a failed, outdated early-mid 20c European derived mishmash of fascist and communist political systems. Instead of looking forward Argentina continues looking backwards. It really is in a mess right now and history will confirm this.

What a brilliant poster, its really got the haters in a lather =) My only, small, critical comment on it would be that an artistic representation of Cristina can never be quite as beautiful as the real lady =) But there's nothing embarrasing or dictatorial about it, all it means is that some people in the country appreciate the stance and successes of their President; if only there was anything to appreciate about our own leaders in the UK!

As you say abit complicated Think but all South American countries claim to be democracies and as such adhere to the separation of powers between the executive, the legislature and the judiaciary branches of government. The elected legislature makes the laws, the executive executes them and the judicairy interpret them and decide if they are within the national Constitution or not.

I would cite for instance the Clarin case and the arbitrary decree evicting by Presidential Decree the SRA (Rural Society of Argentina) from thier legally held premises at Palermo on 30 days notice as well as cancelling the traditional judicial recess in January. I dont think the legal eagles are too happy to see thier constitutional powers being eroded. A sign of this is the reopening of the bribery case over the dredging issue of Matin Garcia channel in involving the binacional Comision Administradora de Rio de La Plata (CARP)which had been “archivado” by the judge. (In other words swept under the carpet)
The tias separation of powers goes back to Roman law andis the basis of any democracy. Interfere with that and you are well on the way to totalitarianism when free elections go by the board

#104 Democracy isn't out the window at all, that doesn't mean I can't campaign for my own preference. If Scioli wins fair and square, fine. But I think it would be better for the people if Cristina, Timmerman, Alicia Castro or another candidate of the left won. And from the last vote, it seems a majority agree =)
