In anticipation of the business opportunities the oil industry will bring to the Falkland Islands, a leading company has plans to build in the capital Stanley 26 two bedroom apartments in the form of an 80 metre long terrace on land were previously there were temporary housing and offices since removed. Nothing wrong with wanting to keep the character of the place the same, imagine what would happen if Bath decided to allow buildings not made of local stone or Salisbury decided it would be ok to have a building taller than the cathedral spire.

Modern interpretation? Oh crap, I can see it now. It's gonna be North Boulder (CO, USA) all over again (Fast construction with an 'eclectic mix of materials' to provide a 'neo-rustic' feel to remind the residents of the area's pioneer past.) Fear the modern architect, Stanley!
Jan 17th, 2013 - 11:29 am - Link - Report abuse 0I've seen old photographs of my town from the 60's. They basically took one of the oldest town in Britian, full of tudor and Georgian architecture and ruined it, turned it into plastic and glass, pure vandalism and all in the cause of so called progress. Change is coming for the Islands, for the better, I sincerely hope they keep a grip on it and retain the Islands uniqueness.

Jan 17th, 2013 - 02:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@1 I wonder how old Mr Lewis is. Given Dod's apparent familiarity with all the families on the Islands, might he be Mr Lewis? Trying to hold back Falklands development to please his arsie mistress?
Jan 17th, 2013 - 03:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@12 I don't agree with holding up progress, but I do agree with you. Nevertheless, if the Islanders want the revenues from an oil industry, they are going to have to compromise. Three storeys is not exactly high.
@14 What it said is hilarious. I say it because the translator says his. Is there something CFK hasn't been telling us? Anhybody think the sow reads this? Or perhaps some arsie slug could pass comments along. So the UN passed a NON-BINDING resolution issuing an invitation. So what? The UK's busy and couldn't accept the invitation. Besides, the Islanders didn't get invited. Oh, yes. The constant provocations. Like sending an officer for SAR training. Continuing the 30-year old practice of sending a warship to defend the Islands against a bunch of nutters that invaded them. Like continuing to give assistance so that the Islanders can progress. Here's the rules of play in force. The Islands are BRITISH. NOTHING will change that. And any country that thinks otherwise should be ready to pay the price. In blood!
Tip for arsieland: Shoot her! Then grow up!
Firstly, one minute it's 40 resolutions we're ignoring, then it's 'the resolution' (1?), then it's back to 40, then the guy running the UN says it's none, then it was 40 again at this Atlantic rimming nonsense, and now it's 'UK is ignoring the resolution' again.I've read the resolutions, and I don't understand which one we're apparently ignoring. Can someone ask KFC which one or 40 it is?
Jan 17th, 2013 - 03:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Secondly...
“I want to thank Indonesia and its people for their constant support over the Malvinas,” Fernández de Kirchner said to Yudhoyono in a press conference today. [1]
“We don’t pretend to push any kind of criteria, but simply start to comply with the rules of the game and respect the resolutions of the United Nations,” the Argentine head of state said. [2]
So in [1] she's pushing some kind of diplomatic criteria... and then in [2] she's saying she's not pushing any kind of criteria. Is she actually mentally retarded enough to actually say this?
Poor old Lewis gets blamed for everything. Not only is the great naval commander royal navy retired a fake but a blind fake at that.

Chuckle chuckle.
when all is built and ready,
Jan 17th, 2013 - 08:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0perhaps CFK can be invited to come and cut the ribbon,

Jan 18th, 2013 - 07:49 am - Link - Report abuse 0All other factors aside;
Possession is nine-tenths of the law is an expression meaning that ownership is easier to maintain if one has possession of something, and much more difficult to enforce if one does not. The expression is also stated as possession is nine points of the law, which is credited as derived from the Scottish expression possession is eleven points in the law, and they say there are but twelve.
This principle can be restated as: ”in a property dispute (whether real or personal), in the absence of clear and compelling testimony or documentation to the contrary, the person in actual possession of the property is presumed to be the rightful owner. The shirt or blouse you are currently wearing is presumed to be yours, unless someone can prove that it is not”.
So, keep a tight hold on your shirt.
l'm pretty sure that most lndonesians would not be remotely interested in the Falklands.
