MPs call on Timerman “to listen to the people who live in the Falklands”

Wednesday, February 6th 2013 - 05:19 UTC

After a first day of mixed results, Argentine Foreign Minister Hector Timerman Malvinas lobbying in London is looking ahead to a more friendly, less combative two-day scenario at the Argentine embassy with the ‘Pro-dialogue’ group where he plans to promote Argentina’s Malvinas sovereignty claims that reject point blank any dialogue or the right to self determination for the people of the Falklands. Argentina's claim is not supported by the (non-binding) resolutions, they just call for dialogue. Hague only refuses to meet Bi-laterally on the Falklands subject, everything else is up for discussion bi-laterally as Hague has constantly stated. Timerman is a constant shameless liar.

@3 yes, after a day with the grownups, the little fascist will have two “less combative” days of mutual validation by the useless and bitter before going back to his little bubble. And all of them will pay up for their free lunch by saying that the opinion of the 21st century Czechs means nothing against the inheritors of the Reich. Until March, that is, when their universal right to self-determination is exercised by the free and ignored by the scum of the earth.

Wow, what a bunch of non-entities the Argentines have gathered together.

Not one European leader. Not one person who actually has any clout.

Well done Mr Timerman. You spend the next 2 days being told what you want to hear by your own sichophants, and then you can return to Argentina hailing it as a triumph...

...Meanwhile, in the sane world, the UN, EU and Commonwealth will all respect and acknowledge the Falkland Islanders right to self-determination.

If Timerman attended this meeting looking for potential allies in the opposition parties he was really wasting his breath.

I'm glad to see that my MP Mr Derek Twigg (Lab) gave him short shrift, and told him straight, that the rights and wishes of the Falklanders are paramount, and only they can decide their own future. No negotiation of the fundamental human right to self-determination as laid down in the UN Charter.

Mr Timerman, you have lied so much and so often in the last few days, that no one would believe you if you said water was wet.

Go back home to your Nazi mistress, and grovel before her. You have made a right pigs ear out of this.

Oh, and I also think Mossad will be keeping tabs on you, with you being a traitor to Israel and all.

You really put the icing on the cake with the Israeli settlement crack, and the Israeli government aren't going to forgive you for that.

    @15 - RC

True. You are right, all the Argentinian government can see is the chance to get their hands on oil, and trade their every dwindling supply of food for it. It won't be long before the people of Argentina are rationed so the Argentine government can pay for the oil they need.

However, it's a bad move, as most countries may stop importing goods to Argentina in case they pass them onto their good buddies the Iranians. Since Iran is under UN sanctions, governments are very wary of trading with anyone with links to them.

However, I suspect that Argentina has been put on Israel's 'list' of undesirable countries.

This could be another reason Israel is getting closer to countries like Brazil. Brazil who is the real power in South America along with Chile. Argentina is a 'has been' country. No that's wrong. Argentina is a 'never was' country. So Israel will form a close relationship and trading partnerships with the likes of Brazil, and the Argentine government has managed to successfully cut themselves off from the International Community even more.

The next step will be CFK visiting Kim Jong-Un in North Korea next, and supporting his claim to all of South Korea, while he mouths his support for Argentina's 'Malvinas' cause.

    It's just a matter of time...:D

Hague should go to Argentina and talk about trade and a number of other issues. He should also state that, if discussing the Falklands, he would expect that the islanders would be represented. The Argentinean foreign ministry can then impose the condition that talk can only take place if the islanders are not present thus imposing a condition. Tit for tat.

By the way, it should be noted that the foreign office missive we sent out said we would be happy to talk about everything else bilaterally but if discussing this which impacted on the Falklands then they should be present. As such, Timerman had the opportunity to discuss other points of importance.

Britain should thank Tinman and his motly entourage for providing the best part of a weeks entertainment in the West End. I hear that Cameron MacIntosh is very interested in making it into a show.

Walnut brain Timerman has given everyone in how to loose friends and alienate people. Gott and the rest of his syncophants are a laughing stock of nonenities. There is not one person of any significance attending Tinmans whingefest that is in any way recognisable or influential.

Argentina is a washed up nation approaching the status of an international pariah. It has lied cheated and stolen from Italy and Spain once its closest skies. Rampant inflation, socialist mismanagement abound as it aligns itself with Chavez Castro and Iran, the axis of evil. Within 20 months Tinman and KFC will be history.

The Falkland Islands have a bright future under the protection of the UK and all right thinking people who believe in freedom around the world support the notion of a proud island people choosing their destiny as will be demonstrated in the forthcoming referendum.

We look forward to this odious little fool scuttling off back to his chaotic dump of a country as soon as possible.

Not sure that would be a good idea, given the current atmosphere in Argentina with the Referenda on the islands.

For one, I am not sure that he would be afforded the same degree of respect from Argentine politicians, that Timmerman received here. Then again, there is the prospect of Campora staged demonstrations and stunts, which I would absolutely expect to occur.

If there were to be such a meeting, it would better to hold it at a neutral venue, with the same conditions. Falkland Islands participation, though it would seem to be a pointless excercise, given the predictable outcome.

Poor argies. Deluded and delusional. Daren't listen to anything that might not fit their delusion. How about the next time Tinpotman wants a “one-to-one” meeting, the Islanders sit in the next room watching and listening through the one-way glass? Then, at the appropriate moment, they can appear and stand in the doorway so he can't get out!

The foreign secretary said he welcomed the results of the islanders' referendum on sovereignty in March.

He earlier met Jan Cheek and Dick Sawle, of the islands' legislative assembly, at the Foreign Office.

He added it was a “shame” Argentine foreign minister Hector Timerman had declined to attend that meeting.

    'Settlers'
Mrs Cheek and Mr Sawle said they were “disappointed but hardly surprised” at his absence.

“Mr Timerman dismisses us as 'settlers'. Well, we are settlers. Like countries across the continent of the Americas, we came into existence through waves of settlement from Europe and elsewhere,” said Mrs Cheek.

We want good, neighbourly, relations with Argentina, we are willing to talk with them and we cannot be ignored”

    Jan Cheek
    Falkland Islands' Legislative Assembly
“Indeed, we Falkland Islanders settled in our home long before many parts of Argentina were settled by the Argentines,” she continued.

“Mr Timerman knows full well that it is simply untrue to say that we have fewer political rights than anyone else, or that the United Nations has said that self-determination does not apply to the Falklands, or that UN resolutions preclude Argentina from sitting down with us.

”Repeating these misrepresentations doesn't make them any truer, however inconvenient for Argentina.“

Buenos Aires was ”deeply worried about our referendum“, she said, ”which is why they spend so much time dismissing it“.

”Talk of the Falklands being Argentine in 20 years makes for good headlines - but smacks of desperation.

“We are a thriving community, with a growing international voice. We want good, neighbourly, relations with Argentina, we are willing to talk with them and we cannot be ignored. Self-determination is a universal right.”

The simple, but sad, truth is that practically nobody in Argentina appears to have the balls to acknowledge the Falkland Islanders to even talk with them.

In the short-term this will play out well with Argentine homeland consumption, but in the long term it will prove a disaster when the UN finally gets around to kciking the C24 into touch or de-listing the BOTs...

of course the incumbent Argentine Government is on its way out anyway, so it clearly doesnt care much about the “Long term”, instead it appears to want to go out on a high of piling as many abusive lies as possible against the Islanders and the UK.

They see that they have little time left and are clearly out to “enjoy it while they can”.

What this does for the Argentine people in the long term is, perhaps, the saddest part of this all.

As usual his statements are far more for internal consumption than any external effect.

He clearly came with absolutely nothing constructive to say on the subject. And probably never even expected to persuade anybody of anything.

But it all looks good back home, looks like he’s doing something, even if nobody knows what.

The reality is that the negotiation he claims Argentina want so much, are even further away now, than they were before he came.

And it was no chance before he got here.

His comments increasingly remind me of Comical Ali in the last days of Saddam in Bagdad. He claimed they were winning with the world behind them.

Timerman did not fall into the trap set by the UK.

Timerman was right. British citizens on the islands are represented in London. They planted a colony. There are a nation. No English fell into the trap. The committee supports UN decolonization to Argentina. Timerman met with international law to comply with UN resolutions.

    See the following link:

All Argentine and Latin American and the rest of the English-speaking world are proud as our President Cristina Fernandez Kirchner and Foreign Minister Hector Timerman defend our rights over the Malvinas Argentinos against colonialism, racism and imperialism of the 21st century.

They support this claim such important bodies as the UN Assembly Resolution 2065, the decolonization committee UN, OAS, CELAC, UNASUR and MERCOSUR and several Nobel Peace Prizes as Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Mairead Corrigan Maguire of Northern Ireland, the Guatemalan Rigoberta Menchu Tum, the Desmond Tutu, Jody Williams of the U.S., and Iranian Shirin Ebadi

Looking at the number of Nobel prizewinners since 2004, there have been approx 100. That means that 94% of the prizewinners have NOT called for negotiations .
    To quote from ambito.com:-
”Failure on the part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the United Nations resolutions, unwillingness to dialogue with a country (Argentina) democratic and fully demonstrated commitment to peace, and the installation and maintenance of a military base on the continent (Falkland Islands), constant reinforcement and military maneuvers aero-naval, put seriously threatening peace and harmony of this part of the world, “argued the pacifist leaders requested, ”
It looks as if they have prejudged the issue already and blithely ignore the facts that the door is open but Argentina will not come in for talks and also fail to note that Argentina will accept nothing but sovereignty from these talks.
Timerman has said as much, even more forcibly in his grand tour of London.
