    $ 427 million for 20 planes ?
    So that is $ 21m per plane - for a single-engined turboprop trainer that sounds like an awful lot of money, even if it includes parts and support for the next ...? years.

    They cost about 14 million a piece to produce. Apparently the assholes that run my country have nothing better to spend money on.

    @2&3 No, this is reasonable. Support for an ally. You can imagine the “negotiations”. “No, you can't have any of our jets. They're too fast for you. These things are much better. Just remember to tell your ”pilots“ that if the thing at the front stops going round, they're crashing”. Meanwhile the U.S. will be making money. Can anyone imagine an Afghan trying to maintain a jet engine? They probably still think a jet engine is magic!

    For attacking light infantry with no air support, then why not use this type of plane? It seems really sensible to me.

    No, we can now say that they are equiping them with technology they are capable of operating!

    @9 Captain Poppy: I'm not saying this is the best ground attack aircraft on the planet, I am saying it can do the job. When fighting against a few blokes with not much more than towels on their heads and ak47s's maybe they just need something that is armed like an AH-6 but a bit faster.

    And would you really want Afghans in A10's after all the green on blue killings?

    Absolutely not and I agree......that is what I meant by let the stans have the brazzies technology.

    The plane has a Brazillian design, but the electronics, weaponry, devices and so on is all state of the art American built equipment. Therefore, it is not “brazzies” tech only. Also, do not underestimate the Afghans they will be trained to use an improved weapon that is winning the fight against FARC in Colombia. This small plane does exactly what an A10 would do in Afghanistan for a fraction of flight hour cost with 86% availability and much more loiter time. This plane is also excellent for surveillance and training purposes. The Super tucano is not going to fight tank columns and anti-aircraft, that is why it is considered the best 'Light' Air Combat airplane in the world today.

    Best aircrat of its type. if they were looking for a similiar jet, then I would suggest that the Hawk is the bird for them. but that is not what they need, is it?
