This apology for a politician has already had a number of weeks to get the army on side: they support him (no mention of the people) so we can only guess what comes next.

Suppression of the opposition, further expulsions of American diplomats, etc. Despite the claims that Venezuela ran a clean election a few months ago, the Bill Clinton whatever they call themselves had to admit they had no people on the ground and had only examined documents ‘but it was fine’, yeh and Clinton never touched Monica.

It will be a potential bloodbath especially if the bus driver and the army think they are going to loose.

South America – they just don’t get freedom of speech and democracy (except Uruguay) even though they all claim it.

Chris....the buzzword in south america is not democracy, rather dictocracy. There is noever an alligence to the country and a way of life, it is always to the leader/person. Very wrong concept to democacry.

Poppy You talk about dictracy and mebbe you are right. Democracy has many different interpretacions. In your own country its a plutocrasy Whoever rakes in the most funds to run for election, be it Democrats, Republicans or Tea Party can but more TV advertising and thus convince the unthinking thundering herd to vote for them. This isnt meant to be a critcism, but just a fact of life which any democratic system is plagued with

@3 - “In your own country its a plutocrasy”... twas tried with Ross Perot. It didn't end well for him, but then again Richard Crenna couldn't play him in real life like he did in the movie. Likewise if Donald Trump ran as a libertarian, independent or heck, let's go for glory and make him a Green party candidate, even he and his money likely would not be able to be the co-“Machines” of what is effectively a Dual-Party State nestled in the corner of the box made by our constituion.

Gface, Poppy Not being a US citizen the convolutions of your political system are a bit beyond me but if thats the way you choose to go and so be it.
in any democracy you will always have a lunatic fringe, beit Perot or Trump or the lady from Alaska who could see Russia from her front window
I think in UK there was even a Monster Raving Loony Party run by one who styled himself as Screaming Lord Sutch who garnered quite a few dissident votes
If meglomaniacs like Perot and Trump think they can run the world better than it is, go ahead and elect them!
    Thats what democracy is about

So Venezuela is in breach of its constitution!

What happened to Paraguay when it followed the letter of its constitution recently?

None of the poor they're interviewing are into Maduro. He doesn't look Indio, & he's stern & dour, not friendly & fuNnY.
    Superficial populism.

@7 (I couldn't stand Pailin and think McCain REALLY blew it wit her but it was Tina Fey who said that. You ~can~ see Russia from the Alaska mainland if the conditions are right which is what the real Sarah actually said. Plus as I have said before here, I believe the the MRLP is awash with “Perfectly Sensible Loony Ideas” and I envy you for having such brilliant political talent as Kat Mandu! :-)

#3 to a degree you are correct. The one main difference is that we will never have a president with runaway power, never be a lifetime ruler and never change to constitution to increase the president's terms.
Also, in our plutocracy as you call it, the media can tear can dig into the background of the president, print criticisms of the president and outright call thee president an asshole. What to know something? The one that wrote it will still be alive, employed and write more.
I would never profess that my system is the best system, but what I will say it's a hell of a lot better then Venezuela's and Argentina's where they are now trying to take over the courts for the long run in power.

    Apparently
There are so many leaders attending the funeral,
That there is very little room at the inn,,,

It seems some may have to sleep top and tail,
    And CFK gets Tony blair.lol.

@10 i dont understand US politics, but I think Mc Cain is a patriot, agree with him or not as you please. Most politicians worldwide just seem to be interested in lining thier own pockets For this reason, John Mc Cain, I dont agree with you, but I salute you
