How does having a massive heart attack equate to sacrificing himself for his country?

There is no way of really knowing given the way it was handled so secretively.

“He mouthed those words, but I could tell what he was saying.”

This could easily be more propaganda.

“Chavez - The Legend” by people who knew him best. Available in all good bookstores as of 08/03/13.

Well that didn't take long. Wonder if Ornella has political or greenback ambitions. Or both?

By Greg Palast for Vice Magazine
For BBC Television, Palast met several times with Hugo Chàvez, who passed away today.

Venezuelan President Chavez once asked me (Greg Palast) why the US elite wanted to kill him. My dear Hugo: It's the oil. And it's the Koch Brothers – and it's the ketchup.

I dont mean to shit one someones grave, but saying “please dont let me die” while dying from cancer is far removed from sacrificing yourself for your nation.

Interestingly he supposedly thought there was little hope of recovery and yet chose not to resign the presidency and instead drag on this circus for nearly 3 months.

Instead of dying with dignity and doing the best or his country, he died a coward and left his country in disarray.

History will indeed write about you Hugo but you won't like what they say.

“I don't want to die. Please don't let me die”

sorry, but that sounds more like pleading for ones life, not quite sure how he has come to the conclusion chubby was a martyr, but i guess it pleases the backward.

There are many opinions on what he meant when he said that.
I think it sounds like a common thug, a coward meeting his demise. Not someone strong, who is dying, who has faith that his country will succeed WITHOUT HIM.

Well if the people of Venezuela truly believe that dying of cancer and cardiac arrest is to die for your country, then there are an awful lot of heroes around the world currently dying or have died for their countries too.

What we really have here is a dying man was afraid at the end of his life.

There is nothing heroic about that but what it does show is that he was human, just like the rest of us, with the same frailty, fears and mortality.

The Venezuelan government can try to spin this any way they want, but those words show the truth. He wasn't a martyr, he wasn't a saint (far from it), and he certainly wasn't a prophet: even though he did try to portray himself as such, even equating himself to God. Which is a sin.

Maybe that is why he was so afraid to meet his maker, because he would have to answer for all of his sin, hubris and vanity before God.

Chavez didn't speak for the last month. Machines kept him alive, and he was on permanent oxygen. That phrase 'please don't let me die' is made up for you guys.
So you have something to live for. After all, he was a man of the people.

I think the guard is trying to say that the great man did not want to leave his people, backfired though, it makes him sound afraid of death, which is understandable. He could not have said anything, probably in an induced coma with a respirator keeping him alive, oxygen pumped directly into his body.

Stevie @18. Get your story right will you.

“Chavez didn't speak for the last month. Machines kept him alive, and he was on permanent oxygen. That phrase 'please don't let me die' is made up for you guys.
So you have something to live for. After all, he was a man of the people.”

Which is interesting, because just over TWELVE HOURS AGO on another thread you said this:
“I heard Chavez last word were “I'm merely a brick on the road”. ”

So yes, Chavez's history is indeed already being written by people like me. Showcasing the lies one by one.

The lies about him still holding meetings and running the country have already been exposed.

And now the crap you made up about his last words have also been exposed.

So you be Chavez. As Chavez now has no brain functions it is indeed fitting.
I'll be me. The one with a working brain.

He is to be given his own TV channel, we all know how much he loved his broadcasts. They can tune in 24/7 of course, he won't be saying much, but look on the positive side, they won't have to put up with his singing either!

Stevie, what Anglotino is telling you is that you are brain dead just like the“Comandante”!!!!!!!

What a boludo you are, supporting the biggest crook on the South American continent.

I suppose you are one of the idiots who want CFK to make our poor country into a replica of Venzuela. Well she has been doing her best, but thanks to the Supreme Court she will never make it!!!!!!

Yes, Chavez called me personally and said “I'm merely a brick on the road”. I promise. Me and my cat.

It's not me being a boludo, it's just that you have small hands.

    Stevie

Thanks for your permission to contact you here on MP - for the life of me I can't imagine how I would do otherwise Captain Obvious!

“I sincerely didn't think you would believe such a stupid statement. But now I know better. I'll be more cautious with you next time.”

Interesting. When caught lying you claim stupidity.

By your own words it was a “stupid statment”. I am in total agreement.

Hmm let's look at the word stupid - after all you bought it up to describe yourself.

    stu·pid
    /ˈst(y)opid/
    Adjective
    Lacking intelligence or common sense.

    Noun
A stupid person (often used as a term of address): “you're not a coward, stupid!”.

    Synonyms
    adjective. foolish - dull - obtuse - dense - fatuous - idiotic
noun. brainless, dazed, deficient, dense, dim, doltish, dopey, dull, dumb, dummy*, foolish, futile, gullible, half-baked, half-witted, idiotic, ill-advised, imbecilic, inane, indiscreet, insensate, irrelevant, laughable, loser*, ludicrous, meaningless, mindless, moronic, naive, nonsensical, obtuse, out to lunch, pointless, puerile, rash, senseless, shortsighted, simple, simpleminded, slow, sluggish, stolid, stupefied, thick, thick-headed, trivial, unintelligent, unthinking, witless

Hmm so another word you could have used was foolish or dull or dense or idiotic. And hence you could describe yourself by any of the extremely long list I have compiled.

I suggest you should indeed be more cautious with me next time as you now know better.

“Stupid statement”. In this case “Stupid” refers to “statement” as in the statement being stupid. Just as yours, repeating stupid statements of Chavez' final words. “You” in this case is general. Just as stupid as the statements saying Chavez was a dictator. Or the statements that there were no free elections under Chavez.
I'm merely trying to find common ground here.
