As world leaders were arriving at Caracas late Thursday for Friday’s funeral ceremony of President Hugo Chavez, Argentine president Cristina Fernandez and her delegation were back in Buenos Aires. The Argentine president visited the Military Hospital’s chapel Thursday noon for a final goodbye to the Venezuelan leader and then ordered the flight back to Buenos Aires. Read full article

Mar 08th, 2013 - 08:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0@1 - indeed, very suspicious that she's missing the main event today. I hope it is the Libertad, as it's a warship as declared by ILOST, requiring intervention from our friends in the silent service.

@14 'at least in her advanced state of plastification she won't need embalming.'
Mar 08th, 2013 - 12:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0She is already dead... brain dead...
If you look at that photo you can see she knows that without the Chavez freebies she is stuffed....
She's probably left early in an emotional state because Venezuela has told her that they plan on calling in all of their markers, and they expect her to pay up in full.
Mar 08th, 2013 - 12:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I wonder if she'll suddenly start calling Venezuela 'vultures' and accuse them of not acting like brothers because they won't stand by and allow her to steal all of their money.
As the saying goes, Somethings up. Can not understand, what with all the solidarity and support, even to the extent of offering military assistance, from him, why she does not attend his funeral?
Mar 08th, 2013 - 12:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Maybe she is an emotional wreck, trouble with her nerves, who knows, but something is deffinately up!
I would have thought it was obvious - she needs to be back in Argentina for whatever plans she has surrounding the Falklands referendum. Chavez's death has come at a very inconvienient time
Mar 08th, 2013 - 01:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You think she is up to something, some planned stunt or other?
Mar 08th, 2013 - 01:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@18
Mar 08th, 2013 - 01:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Sadly I have to agree with this completely.
They have got to do something to try and deflect the focus away. A sensible approach would be to do something so radical at home that the coverage of the referendum gets side lined. In reality given the current backwards or idiotic approach to the full situation they are far more likely to sale the ARA Libertad into Port Stanley under the false guise of friendship or something then scuttle her at the harbour claiming that as she is Argentine the ground which she rests on is also Arginine and as it’s at Port Stanley The Falkland’s are also Argentine.
She could easily have stayed for the funeral and been back in BaAs in plenty of time for the Falklands referendum.
Mar 08th, 2013 - 01:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0She went with the intention of attending the funeral - she said as much before she left for Venezuela - but something changed her mind. It could be that there is not actually going to be a funeral anymore, more of a remembrance because Maduro has declared Chavez will be lying in state for at least another week. It is beneficial to his election campaign to have Chavez around as long as possible.
CFK has covered her early exit by stating she only went as a friend and not a President. Bullshit, of course, because she is the bloody President and should be there representing her country. And even as a friend, she should have attended. Something upset her and she threw a hissy fit.
@18 I would expect that the British Task Force has already sailed. So inconvenient those submarines. Underwater where no-one can see them. But, of course, as all educated people know, still capable of sending and receiving radio messages. You just float an antenna up to the surface. Can't you just imagine it? Miles and miles of empty ocean. And then the message Argentine vessel, this is Her Britannic Majesty's submarine. You have entered the Falkland Islands Zone. Reverse your course immediately. This is a final warning. This message is being recorded to show that you were warned. Leave this area immediately. We are authorised to use extreme force. Good idea to video the sinking. First sinking of a sail ship in 200 hundred years?

Something upset her and she threw a hissy fit.
What upset her, apparently, was that she wanted to:
1) Replace Chávez as leader of the Bolivarian revolution,
2) Give the main speech and eulogy at the funeral.
The main speech will be given by Dilma Rousseff and Maduro is going to try for Chávez's jack-boots!!!!!!!
My view on the subject is that she should join Chavez PDQ or preferably sooner. The next cruise liner should fire a 21 Gun salute as well as playing God save the Queen.
Mar 08th, 2013 - 03:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Where was her It was an honest and emotional homage for the 51 people who died in the train crash in Once?

Mar 08th, 2013 - 04:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0my feeling: all close friends to ck die...
If its true that Rousseff will give the main speech, then its possible that she threw a fit lol, with all the stuff about being so close to Chavez and the support she received from him when Nestor called it a day, also could be something to do with the F I's she may pull a stunt but only on the mainland not at sea or close to the islands, it would only make her look even more stupid.
Mar 08th, 2013 - 04:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@25 there has been a lot of criticism about her attitude to Once, she pissed off to Calafate when it happened and kept silent but with the death of Chavez declares 3 days of Duelo and comforts the family of Chavez. What about the victims families of Once ?
Maybe she read Forbes yesterday.

Mar 08th, 2013 - 05:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 01- The was no suitcase full of money he promised her.
2-SHe saw how the people loved him and she can never have that.
So it seems she had to return to destroy Argentina at a much faster pace.....all so she can take care of the poor (that she created) and to be loved more. Peronist logic.

Mar 08th, 2013 - 05:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Good report apart from one fatal error.
Those of us who follow AR and its finances are convinced that the so called reserves are a lie.
There is ample evidence to support that with TMBOA having to raid the Central Bank AGAIN this year. ANSES only has IOUs from the government and INDEC is the institution providing most of these data.
Anyone believe INDEC? No, I didn't think so.
And now, as those of us referred to above already thought: the economy tanked last year - OFFICIAL.
So is there even USD 1.3 Bn in the kitty? There may be, but not for spending on the bond holders, it will be needed to buy LNG to heat the homes over winter or there will be yet another round of pot-banging in BsAS, this time serious.
Argentina had to keep two LNG tankers in port because they didn't issue payment and the captain wouldn't unload it without the wire.
Mar 08th, 2013 - 05:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They have only committed to 75% of the LNG they need to get through the winter.
I think they are desperate for U$ and are panicked. Absolutely panicked.
Poor little darling , she couldn't take the heat , apparently . But then again , we all knew that already , well the non Camporistas amongst us did .

CFK might also have been thinking what some of us all feel when a significant other dies: that our own mortality is unpredictable as to when and where and how. If you are a leader then your own leadership is even less of a done deal as you might think.
Mar 08th, 2013 - 09:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0mothers day =roses meals and CFK.
Mar 08th, 2013 - 10:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Poor CFK,
What a disastrous start to the now very unlucky 2013-
Her face frankly says it all,
She is tired exhausted and worn out,
No amount of plastic surgery can now deplete the sad lines of external failure,
We are perhaps seeing the final curtain of a debunked leader admired by her loyal indocronoughts,
And yet depleted support,
Her frankly, greedy obsession with the British Falklands, is falling apart,
Her failed attempt to cover up incompetence fraud corruption,
And the sorry state of her own country, bordering on a complete meltdown, is frankly a shameful decade in argentine history,
And yet the remedy and cure already for all to see, her retirement and replacement by a modern thinking person, who will recognise the self determination of the Falklands, and to let them be permanently none argentine, is sadly long over due,
Come Sunday and Monday the islanders will tell the world that they wish at this time to remain British, and for CFK and argentina to leave them alone in peace,
Thus in turn completely fxcking up CFKS last great failure,
And a failed victory,
Yes, 2013 will be a great year for the British, and even better for the Falkland islanders,
Still,
Its soon mothers day, where she can at last rest and see her future unfold,
A hero to some, a pain in the backside to the rest of the world,
Enjoy mothers day, then retire and fade into history, your time has come ,
Go now before you are pushed.
Just a happy thought.
The bitch should worry now and all the lefties ignorant bastards.

I think she was told to STFU about the Falklands, so there was no point in her staying, and trying to grab the dias.
Mar 09th, 2013 - 10:23 am - Link - Report abuse 0There was the chance of that. Plus Dilma means success! and multiculturalism and she even put her time on the ground.
Mar 09th, 2013 - 09:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This kind of despicable hackery, trying to pick apart the solidarity both political and personal of great figures like Chavez and Cristina, at best using all the unnevenness of their hmanity, like all of ours, agianst them, but more often than not ingulging in distortions and lies, is one of the reasons why I haven't been bothering to come here for some time. I know it should be combatted, but in the end it seems, incorrigible haters are gonna hate. RIP comrade Chavez, long life and power to the lovely Cristina

#52 Its not really news that Brazil is more domestically moderate than Venezuela though is it?! But your article hardly fits with the idea that Cristina left because Dilma was going to give the oration; how could she do so from Brazil?! Whatever the different paces of their domestic policies, there is no indication at all that any of the left led countries in the region are planning to crawl back to the imperialist and neoliberal camp with their tail between their legs...

Are you serious, you Communist twit ??
Why should the countries with viable, growing economies tether themselves to the dysfunctional politics and self- destructive and limiting economic policies of Mercosur and Argentina who have screwed themselves??
Fine for Argentina, misery loves company, etc.
However, Brazil has huge potential - they, for one, could greatly expand their trade and economic growth by trading outside with the likes of the US, UK, Asia!!
Foreign Capitsl investment and joint industrial ventures, not available to Argentina, WILL be a big boon to Brazil, bringing them up to an economic leader in the decades to come.
Not so, for backward-looking Argentina.
;-(

Mar 11th, 2013 - 08:50 am - Link - Report abuse 0I agree Brazil have a great potential they always did but take a look who is running the country left wing presidents just this week Dilma is lowering the taxes for food but she will increase the taxes to business all she is doing is a transfer of wealth she still expanding her welfare program she is reversing some of Lula free market approach( Intervening with price control) brazil is o ready uncompetitive that is why they push hard for Venezuela to get in the Mercosur they need Venezuela for uncompetitive trade which is collapsing under their social unsustainable program Venezuela is a disaster but the in south America they are brain dead to see the socialism of the 21th century is the same disaster that all ways was.
