“We will never forget the ultimate sacrifice they made. We have shown that we will not be intimidated, we will defend our interests, and that, above all, defend what we believe is right,” Cameron said in a threatening tone.

Slapping-down a bully is not threatening behaviour in my book.

Yes, I personally don't like Cameron or this government, UKIP for me next time. But I don't doubt his word at all on this issue, we have the ability to destroy everything Argentina has from a safe distance in the Atlantic, without even deploying a single soldier, it wouldn't be hard, and I and probably many others would be more than happy with him authorising it.

Why is a British Prime Minister pledging to defend British interests described as 'threatening'? Surely it's a warning?

Instead of spending time and energy fixing the 23 provinces in Argentina that are having seven shades of sh*te knocked out of them by the cretinous policies of your government, you and your government are flapping constantly about the UK and the fictitious Malvinas.

Camoron is very aware that a failure to support the Islanders and especially to show a change of heart that would weaken the Islanders position allowing The Dark Country to launch an attack on them would mean the coalition would be out of power within a day or two.

Self-preservation is what is driving this limp-wristed bastard, nothing more.

Re-iterating the same comment over and over again on different articles will not work. Your government might do it to you, but then you have likely been brainwashed since the age of 4 to accept what ever your government says regarding the Falkland Islands.

Fortunately our standards of education are much higher than those of Argentina and your beligerent repeating of the same thing will not change our opinions (big picture yeah - we understand how to look at one of them!).

    @14;
Here read what Capt Silas Duncan of the USS Lexinton wrote in 1831, regarding his visit to the Falklands. 1831. Pirates.

“The letters show that the USS Lexington, under the command of Silas Duncan, visited the Falklands in December, 1831, to investigate complaints by American fishermen that a ”band of pirates“ was operating from the Islands. After finding what he considered proof that at least four American fishing ships had been captured, plundered, and even outfitted for war, Duncan took seven prisoners onboard Lexington and charged them with piracy. The leaders of the prisoners was Louis Vernet, a German, and Matthew Brisbane, an Englishman both of Buenos Aries.”

Let's be serious for a few moments. Britain WILL defend the Falkland Islands. British forces are now fully aware of the history and the reality. The United Kingdom holds a trust. A trust by the Islanders that Britain will speak for them and defend them. And Britain WILL do both. And, when the Islanders are ready, Britain will be the first to support, defend and protect their independence. I expect Britain to offer a defence treaty as part of independence. After all, it's not as though the Falklanders are like the scrounging Scots. In balancing our opinions, we should always remember that, once penned up behind “their” border, the Scots are no threat. 8,000 miles away, the only good “argie” is a dead “argie”. Cameron should make it clear that there is a “line in the sand”. One millimetre over that and “the line” will be filled with argie blood and guts. He should tell argieland, bluntly, that everything the UK has WILL be used against them. Every blade, every bullet, every shell, every bomb, every missile. Total destruction.

@5 You shouldn't say the sort of things you said @1. The slugs might doubt that 90% of Brits would support their annihilation. If you look back, you will find comments indicating that many Brits would travel from the UK to the Falkland Islands to defend them, or retake them. I would. How much better to die defending one's fellow citizens rather than expiring in bed with a tube up your nose? And to defend or retake OUR country's territory as well? Isn't it the only way for a REAL MAN to go? Especially a British man. Shouldn't you remember the identity of the best nation in the world? No-one has ever surpassed Britain. You should treasure your heritage. Americans, Chinese, French, Germans, Italians, Russians, we've beaten them all. In '82, we only sent 5% of our armed forces to slap the argies down. Make no mistake, no British government would survive 5 minutes if it abandoned the Falkland Islanders. The PM of the day could end on piano wire.

Don't blame Furry for you not having the capacity to appreciate irony. Nobody will call him a Malvinista for that statement. And I can assure you no 90% of the Brits supports anyones annihilation. Especially in the islands case, as some 12% of the Brits don't even agree that the Falklanders should decide on their future (or the one of the islands).

Your reply to conquerer is quite right.

I have been to war, and seen the ugly face of it.

War should always be considered the last option after diplomacy. But as in 1982, diplomacy failed because Argentina wasn't willing to listen to reason, and were quite willing to use force against a civilian population.

The one poem that I remember regarding war is a world war 1 poem called Dulce et decorum est by Wilfred Owen.

The last few lines of the poem go:

If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,--
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
    Pro patria mori.

Which basically translates: It is sweet and right to die for your country.

But as Wilfred Owen clearly stated, there is nothing sweet about dying, especially in war.

As a medic I had to deal with some horrific injuries, including casualties that had lost limbs. It is impossible to describe what such things are like to the layman, and for a medic your entire focus is on keeping the blood inside their bodies, and your objective is to give the surgeon a live casualty. All of this is done in the backdrop of the enemy still shooting at you, and the expectation of the casualties comrades that you will make everything okay for their mate.

I think everyone, Argentine and British should think carefully before glorifying war. It isn't like video games. It isn't like the movies. It isn't exciting.

It's frightening. It's confusing and people die, quite horrifically in most cases. Those that don't die have serious injuries that are life changing for them and their families.

Saying that, I would voluntarily take up arms to defend the UK, the Commonwealth, or any British Overseas Territory from attack.

We notice that Cameron is desperate and bewildered. Two contradictions of Cameron.

“I will never forget the ultimate sacrifice they made. We have shown that will not be intimidated, we will defend our interests, and, above all, to defend what we believe is right,” Cameron said in a threatening tone.

In the previous paragraph Cameron bet against international law and dialogue. Bet on violence, terrorism and racism, colonialism and imperialism in the 21st century. Implicitly this saying throw nukes bet Argentina for peace, peacefully reclaim what belongs under international law. It has an identical behavior Galtieri.

“Argentina can still threatening, intimidating fishing vessels, threatening companies doing trade with the islands, drowning income of the islanders. But while the islanders want to remain British, we will always be there to protect” continued Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to conclude then: “You have my word.”

In the previous paragraph implicitly says that Argentina is threatening to invade the islands. United Nations and world opinion are well aware that Argentina commitment to peace and compliance with international law and UN resolutions and decolonization committee. It is most everyone knows that Argentina is unarmed, has minimal forces, and is sinking warships in positions due to budget.

Conclusion: The main weapon of Argentina is precisely not to have weapons. Is its main strength. Esses is the terrible fear that has David Cameron. Underestimated to Argentina for not having weapons. Thus world opinion is in favor of Argentina for their peaceful and legitimate claims. Argentina claims that unarmed and peacefully. That's the fear of David Cameron.

    @31)

You see Raul, this is where the big picture is required. The UK is not the one bullying a small nation. The UK is not the one who in recent history invaded that nation. The UK is not in any way being or attempting to be the aggressor.

The UK IS reasserting it's authority over the islands and making sure that your pathetic government understands the conceqences of what should happen should it try to do what it did again in 1982.

Cameron quite right acknowledges that you lot will never learn and you will never accept any dialogue that will not result in you getting your grubby hands on something that isn't yours - regardless of how ever many international laws you break.

And I'm sorry but half of what you say doesn't really make any sense... He makes no mention of a 'bet against international law and dialogue. Bet on violence, terrorism and racism, colonialism and imperialism in the 21st century. Implicitly this saying throw nukes bet Argentina for peace, peacefully reclaim what belongs under international law.'

Is that the same way Argentina was committed to peace and complying with international law in 1982?

Argentina often says one thing, then does another.

In the history of the Falklands, only Argentina has been the aggressor.

Pardon us if we don't take your word that you will not invade the Islands the moment our guard is down. In fact, your defence minister explicitly stated that the British garrison on the Islands was the ONLY thing preventing Argentina from invading them again.

So like I said, pardon us if we don't believe you. Argentina has NEVER acted in good faith regarding the Falklands.

    “ peaceful and legitimate claims.”

Not legitimate-their claim is full of holes otherwise the UN would not have passed resolution 502 in 1982.
1/-Spanish succession claim proven wrong on these posts many times.
    2/-1833 claims-proven wrong many times.
3/-Claims to have protested continously since 1833-innacurate again-proven on these posts.

If Argentina's claims were legitimate like the UK's ex-colonies were (all given independence when wished), the UK would agree to them.
However most of Argentina's claims in 1964 were half truths and lies that have been proven so by reference to historical documents that the Argentines themselves have in their own country, but ignore.
