Yes I think it's a case of self determination matters when it furthers US interests and not when it doesn't. If that's the case then they can count us out next time they want our support, but lets see if this exercise in democracy has any effect on them. I certainly don't see the US as the friend to the UK that they once were.

    @5 Malvi01

    Oooh, good comeback (snigger).

Tell me Malvi, when you look in the mirror and see those European features, and when you open your mouth and speak that European language, do any thoughts go through your mind like: If I'm European and speak a European language, just what am I doing in South America.

Do you even give a second thought to all the indigenous people that your ancestors murdered? Do you even realise that Argentina has been built by spilling the blood of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of native peoples: men, women and children?

It's strange isn't it that the only people to use aggression in the Falkland Islands was Argentina and it's precursor state: the United Provinces of the River Plate.

In 1832 your troops arrived on the Islands and proceeded to murder, rape and pillage, terrorising the civilian inhabitants. The British turned up, and your troops left without ONE shot being fired. The UP never returned, which would leave the world to believe that you accepted British Sovereignty by your inaction.

In 1982 Argentina illegally invaded the Islands and proceeded to round up, threaten and abuse the civilian population. This time it cost the lives of nearly 1000 people, each of their deaths the FAULT of Argentina.

Both times you LOST. By international law of the 19th century, that means that the British have the right to sovereignty of the Islands. By 20th century law, Argentina broke ALL UN resolutions including a LEGALLY binding UNSC resolution, and Britain still won, and therefore by 20th century law the Islands are British.

The UN doesn't back Argentina - if you had actually ever bothered to read the UN resolutions your government keep quoting you would realise this.

The US doesn't back Argentina either.

In fact, not one country of note backs Argentinas colonial ambitions. All you get are empty platitudes.

Take it to the ICJ, Malvi, and watch them laugh Argentina and it's lies out of court.

Latin Americans aren't Spaniards or Portuguese, Falklanders are Brits.

    Another one for Malvi1:

Do a little research in to this man, and his vessels' visit to the Falkland's in 1832. 1832.

    Report by Silas Duncan

    Commander U.S.S. Lexington

sent to Navy Secretary Levi Woodbury

    on 4 April 1932

Thousands of years of debating knowledge to draw from, the Greek philosophers, Roman senators jousting, parliaments across the world providing rich source material to learn and apply; debating societies keen to share their methods, how-to's, past scripts; countless tomes on how to negotiate, size up your opponents, find their weaknesses and floor them with a single sentence. All this Malvinero and Sussie have at their disposal, and yet, the best they can come up with, the very very best they come up with is “JAJAJAJA PIRATES”, or “British arse”.

    Astounding.

In the future, the Internet will be selectively switched off for people who have a negative net impact on the sum total of human knowledge.

The US position on anything is 'We want to sell lots of our sh!t to these f*ckers', as can be seen from thumbing one's way idly through any world history book. Expecting them to vary from this track, is as futile as expecting the catholic church to punish priests for pederasty. It's simply not going to happen.

@5 Sorry, we're not travelling to argieland. Billions in debts, 30% inflation, no industry to speak of, power cuts, provinces with no money to pay bills or workers, rampant street crime, poor harvests, massive taxes, did I mention power cuts? criminal gangs run by the government, massive corruption. Sounds like hell to me!
@8 Do you understand the concept behind the word “latin”? Should we remind you that 97% of your population is WHITE? That your language is Spanish? Do you think that you magically developed the same language as the Spanish? Why do you not still call yourselves Aztecs, Toltecs, Caribs, Tupi, Maya, and Inca? Perhaps you could outline the derivation of the name “Stevie”? Why aren't you “proud” of your forebears, the murdering “conquistadores”? Incidentally, have you read Section 25 of the argie constitution? That's the one that says the “government” has to foster EUROPEAN immigration.

Why didn't you just say that in the first place? Now Malvi understands. I think you'll get a nice reply.

I wonder if the Argies are joining their fellow-South American members, and the rest of almost a third of the world's population, to celebrate Commonwealth Day.

@Stevie, Are you stupid??? You are sons and daughters of EUROPEAN IMMIGRANTS you are NO DIFFERENT than the Islanders, well yes there is a difference The Islanders are far classier

Falklanders are Europeans, Latin Americans are of European descent. Try a referendum in Colombia and see if they declare themselves as Spaniards. Only reason you fail to see the difference is because it doesn't serve your cause.

@Stevie No the only cause it does not serve is your own Argentines are decendents of Europeans just like The Falkland Islanders are ,you make your self look so stupid explain why you speak Spanish its the same reason The Islanders speak English even that stipud x flight attendent Alicia Castro admits what your heritage is YOU ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN THE ISLANDERS just to stupid to see it ,we don't look at history only though Argentine eyes unfortunately they have a history of twisting and lieing about it.

Poor cowards always trying to please Uncle Sam. They want to show on a silver platter the result of the “referendo”. I do not know what value is this woman or what are FIRST, but it is interesting what the ambassador said: “The people there Have the Right to Choose How They Are governed and under Whose Sovereignty”. It turns out that people “over there” are British in Argentine territory who can not decide anything, wee do not even know if those who vote are born “there”, ie immigrants in Argentina. MALVINAS ARGENTINAS FOREVER.
