For all Chavez's faults, he didn't start a religion. Maduro seems to be starting one though.

    We have a father.

    We have a son.

And if chavismo is the holy spirit?

    Then AMEN!

I wonder how Mrs Chavez feels about her husband's indiscretions. I mean, how many more sons are going to crawl out of the woodwork? Will they expect her to cook dinner for them every night? Are there any extraneous daughters out there to help with the washing-up?

@6 It is an interesting point you make there. Simón Bolívar's plan was to create a United States of South America and a democracy until he realised it would never work there, so he declared himself a dictator. (Though he later resigned that position intending to return to Europe). He realised that the Catholic masses there were more receptive to being told what to do and think. Add to that the indulgence in myths and tales that seem to walk hand in hand with Catholicism and you can see why his Plan B worked. Dictatorships under any guise seem to go down a treat there.

Loving the Life of Brian jokes. What a twit Maduro is. “I am Chavez, no wait, I am his son” He should go on the Jeremy Kyle show and get a DNA test.

The nod is less to Python and more to Douglas et al:
    Not-Douglas ... “I'm Spartacus!”
    Not-Douglas ... “I'm Spartacus!”
    Not-Douglas ... “I'm Spartacus!”
Douglas ... “I'm the one keeping my mouth shut”

It's a sound election tactic - possibly even a long term strategy, like Peronism.

'Son of Chavez' is really aiming for the long term: “One million years ..”.
This is a thousand times longer than even Hitler claimed for his 7 year dynasty.

'Bombast' ... over-estimation, absurdity, empty-talk, magniloquence, ridiculousness, boastfulness.

“We are all Chavez, workers of the fatherland, Chavez for ever!”
“We are all Peron, workers of the fatherland, Peron for ever!”
“We are all Hitler, workers of the Fatherland, Hilter for ever!”
“We are all Mao, workers of the fatherland, Mao for ever!”

    Same odious bile, different shovel.

Oh dear, it's Kim Jong Un all over again. You get rid of one porky little despot, like Chubby Chávez and another pops up to take his place. What is it with this recent spate of fat psycho dictators? Not to be outdone, now KFC's grooming Maximo to continue Nestor's ruling dynasty.

@13 He's being turned into a waxwork like Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung too! Then starving-crying Venezuelans can queue up to throw plastic flowers at him before returning home for some shoe-soup while their political classes stuff their faces on various rich meats.

Don't you just love communism for delivering equality, regardless of how veiled.

One should be afraid, VERY afraid, when, in the opening electoral gambit, ”Son of Sam, uh Chavez, says “if necessary we will resort to arms to defend the revolution of Commander Chavez” North American reporters (VICE) say that the streets of Caracas are perilous now. Get ready. By the time the smoke clears, there may not be much of a population left to govern or carry on this grand revolution cause they're already slaughtering each other, according to those reports. Seems that any sensible Venezuelan would be thinking hard about becoimng expatriate to save his/her life.

    @7 lol

@8 Good analysis. I'm thinking much of the population there had Inca practices pre-Catholicism, so for them that IS a step UP.

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_the_Inca_Empire

Their practices previous to Catholicism included a lot of negs: curses, belief in 'bad luck', and appeasement of “negative spirits”, & oh yeah, mass sacrifice of LIFE..

    So they've made progress.

I am SoO GLAD to see the beginnings of personal empowerment there, thats the way out of authoritarianism! The mindset of even Catholicism is predicted to be functionally gone by 2075.

Venezuela is launching a formal inveztigation into the U.S. region giving Chavez, his health problemos.

Ok, had this discussion w a friend yesterday. She said Chavez wasn't morbidly obese. That means he had an extra 100 pounds on his 5'8 frame, or about 235 pounds. He totally was: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/yy281/donherrera12/2011-12-28T021221Z_59163129_GM1E7CS.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2826098/posts&usg=__YbbH1pdtm43TSvuegifx_bMU4dY=&h=356&w=512&sz=33&hl=en&start=22&zoom=1&tbnid=G-Xb-1jp_O1lGM:&tbnh=91&tbnw=131&ei=JJ0_Ud2GNMTo2AWTloH4AQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dchavez%2Bfat%26start%3D20%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1&sa=X&ved=0CAoQrQMwATgU

I called your embalming lies when you made them public, now that your lies are exposed, it is, as usual, someone elses fault. Sad little lives on a sad little place, and worse is, you're merely borrowing it.

Chavez has rotted too much to be embalmed? Oh this is too funny.

I told them they would need a backup generator for the fridge with the unreliable electricity supply. Or perhaps they should have embalmed him earlier when he died in Cuba.

Now I won't be able to pop over to Caracas when I'm in Colombia next and pay my “respects” to his face.

I'm still laughing. Thanks ElaineB. Made my night.
