Falkland Islands becomes an issue of controversy for Argentina’s federal tax revenue office

Saturday, March 23rd 2013 - 10:51 UTC
Full article 57 comments

Argentina’s federal tax revenue office, AFIP said that trips to the Malvinas Islands, as well as expenses are included in the new 20% levy imposed on credit and debit card purchases in foreign countries, despite the fact the Falklands are considered Argentine territory, because of geopolitical reasons. Funny.

I think what should follow next is AFIP sending a demand to the FIG that they immediately begin carrying out all their financial transactions in pesos.

That should cause a few giggles.

    This is hilarious.
All the poor man has said is that from a tax point of view, the Falklands have a different system and a different currency, which is unarguable. And the pathetic brainwashed fools are calling him a traitor.
This is what you get if you keep on training children from an early age to parrot 'the Falklands are Argentinas'. A percentage of them will believe they live in a parallel universe in which this is actually true.

Well, I think we can take this as read that an official body of the Argentine government accepts that the Falklands aren't Argentine.

It reminds me a little of Miracle on 34th Street (original), when the court ruled that Kris Kringle was Santa Claus because the US Post Office offically recognised him as such.

We should take this immediatley to the ICJ and watch Argentina squirm. Then again they wouldn't turn up as they know that they would be laughed out of court.

An Argentine official talks realistically about a practical issue and he's accused of being 'stupid or a traitor'....

You couldn't make this stuff up. If it's stupidity you Malvinista's are looking for you need to take a look in a mirror.

Can any Argie tell where and when the UN requires the UK to “in a peaceful way, acknowledge the sovereignty” of Argentina “over the Malvinas Islands”?

If your political verbal ejaculations are not simply for domestic consumption then please direct me to a UN resolution that requires the UK to recognise Argentine sovereignty.

I truly wonder how much mental illness there must be in Argentine politics, accusing someone of being a traitor because he had momentary lapse into lucidity. You have got to feel sorry for their people, they are literally being governed by muppets.

“will be accomplished “once the UK abides by the United Nations resolutions and, in a peaceful way, acknowledges the sovereignty” of Argentina “over the Malvinas Islands.””

Oh, that's what “negotiate” & “peaceful resolution” means to them. (Give us the Falklands in a “peaceful” way)

I couldn't figure out what they actually wanted when using these terms and no one from that side would explain it to me.

No change here in 16 years... that's how the AFIP treated Argentine commercial folks when considering opportunities for Argentine involvment in Falklands offshore drilling in 1998 - it became much cheaper for the oil operators to purchase drill casings and pipe from Mexico and ship it in from there, when Argentina gave notice it would levy IVA (VAT) - the operators enjoyed cost savings by purchasing and shipping in from Mexico!

Firstly the exchange controls Argentina are developing are just storing up a huge problem for the further and damaging Argentinians now.

But if you are going to have them why leave a massive hole allowing the FI to profit hugely by being the only way Argentinians can access the international forex markets.

The the thought police fly in and call him a traitor. Do they not realise if he hasn't done what he did it would lead to a huge financial advantage for the Falkland Islanders. Argentina would be buying everything they wanted to import via the Islands.

It just shows that Argentinian politicians are morons as well as insane.

RICO has made the most pertinent comment in post 13. Falklanders should pray that CFK forces the tax authorities to treat the islands as part of mainland Argentina. It would be a bonanza on a massive scale. “Las Malvinas son Argentinas” - but money talks louder.

The difference is my child we haven't built our entire economy (or sense of national pride) around the banking lobby of a minuscule sector of your capital city. A 'city' now completely discredited and in fact ostracized by almost the entire world's GDP, and to be further eschewed with new legislations worldwide on banks, CEO pay, transfers, and global finance reforms that will render it de facto shunned and useless.

@15,18,20,22,26 I have to explain something to you. I know you won't believe me but at least I will have done the honourable thing and informed you. In your “country”, much of the “food” is contaminated by glyphosate herbicides and by rBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone). Even in trace amounts, these substances produce disorders. Some disorders are physical, e.g. deformities, and some disorders are mental. It has to be borne in mind that the supplier, Monsanto, is into genetics. The effects are cumulative. And are passed on through heredity. Notably, argieland has more psychiatrists per person than any other state in the world. In 2011, argieland began the process of closing down its psychiatric hospitals and releasing mentally-ill people into society. These days, the mentally-ill are left free. Even those with delusions. Until confinement is the only available option. It will get worse over the years. You can expect to see such things as outbreaks of mindless violence, anti-social behaviour, criminality, listlessness. Anything that involves effort or distinguishing between right and wrong will be lost in those affected.

Argentines vomit it the sight of being like Europe, or the USA, with its immoral economic system and twisted moral values of self-determination for some but not for others.

    Cough cough..
and that the use of Argentina’s currency in the disputed territories will be accomplished “once the UK abides by the United Nations resolutions and, in a peaceful way, acknowledges the sovereignty” of Argentina “over the Malvinas Islands.”

Show us this exact resolution that categorically states,
Great Britain must recognise argentine sovereignty over the Falklands,

And does Falklands residence have argentine loans and mortgages,
    As it implies,
    ////////////////
The opposition MP accused Echegaray of “recognizing the British sovereignty over the Falklands,
And what is wrong with that assumption,
Does it not then suggest that he is correct?
    And Argentinean government is wrong..

    This is hilarious.

A loyal member of Kretina's gang decides to tax any transactions in the Falklands as a foreign purchase - to raise tax & because they cannot force the Falklands to use Pesos and he is branded a traitor.

Does that mean they will brand Kretina a traitor for using a British jet every time she travels abroad?

Does that mean that Tinman is also a traitor for recognising at the UN that the Falkland Islands is under British control?

They must be, because if it is OK to call one idiot a traitor, then all other government staff must be idiots & traitors too.

You really cannot make this stuff up....

As I've mentioned many times before, the Argentines are under a mass delusion that the talks requested (not ordered) by the United Nations are only about how the sovereignty is to be handed over, when in fact these talks are merely to discuss the Islands and not to impose any specific solution, except that which suits the inhabitants.

As Ban Ki-moon mentioned in November, trying to politely point out to the Argies in no uncertain terms, that any peoples (such as the islanders) have the right to decide their own future. They've now exercised that right & they want to be British. Time for Argentina to wake up and realise that they cannot force any transfer in sovereignty & the more they act aggressively to the Islanders & Britain, the more they drive the Islanders to choose to remain with Britain.

Conqueror is right, Argentina suffers from serious psychological problems, the first and foremost of which is mass denial & delusion. We should be shipping in bulk quantities of Lithium Carbonate. Kretina's already taking hers...... or not!
