The Vatican’s policy of non intervention in the Falklands/Malvinas Islands dispute between Argentina and Britain was confirmed by official sources in the Vatican, the UK ambassador to the Holy See Nigel Baker revealed to The Telegraph Sunday edition. Read full article

Mar 25th, 2013 - 01:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0Supposedly everyone supports Argentina and the UK is isolated in this matter.
CFK looks to this man, as god’s representative on earth,
Mar 25th, 2013 - 01:18 am - Link - Report abuse 0No disrespect intended]
So when he says no,
That mean then the man upstairs is saying no,
You can’t get any higher than these two men,
So CFK will have no choice but to drop it,
But she won’t, because like drug addicts, she is so obsessed with the British Falklands, she cannot drop it,
To her, its victory or nothing,
Sadly then, it will be nothing,
Still,
Who wants to take bets, when she leaves she will thank him for his support over the Falklands, like everyone else she meets.
But no one really listens or cares.
Night night ..
.
Gods rep says no to support for Argentinas claim to sovereignty of Falklands. Does this mean tbat Timerman will call off his visit to the UN? Not a chance the man is an idiot.!

It's as I had suggested in the other thread, he's a figure head who has to follow policy rather than set it.
Mar 25th, 2013 - 07:18 am - Link - Report abuse 0I have to say CFK looks terribly ill in that picture. Her face is bloated and an unusual shape. I wonder if her condition is worse than has previously been described by the medical staff?
UK rightly forecasted the non-involvement of the Pope. Who the hell advises CFK about trying to get the Pope on board, ah yes, her late husband.
Mar 25th, 2013 - 07:59 am - Link - Report abuse 0So Bergoglio as Bishop said there were literally angels fighting with the Argentine soldiers in 1982, but Francis the Pope now refuses to even promote peace talks; and all with the weasel words that its a matter for sovereign states when the Vatican IS a sovereign state and has the unique ability among religious organisations to intervene at that level - just not for peace in the South Atlantic it seems. So now this extreme Malvinista crumples before Cameron's position and no doubt will be celebrated by the Conqueror trolls here; the contradictions of being a right winger! Viva Cristina, clearly still the greatest Argie!
Mar 25th, 2013 - 09:03 am - Link - Report abuse 0@ 9. Are you smoking that wacky stuff again. The pope is supposedly the earthly figure of christ, as we all know christ was born in Bethlehem not Buenos Aires, therefore why is Francis likely to intervene on Argentinas behalf? Cruella and Tin Potman will now instruct other argentinian nonentities to carry on with the anti Bergoglio campaign and denounce him as some sort of British loving traitor. Does Ricky Gervais write all political doctrine/speeches/policies in Argentina ...
Mar 25th, 2013 - 09:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0Oh BK, I feel for you, so upset at the Vatican. I wouldn't blame the pope though, he's just a figurehead after all and has to follow policy.
Mar 25th, 2013 - 09:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0Alienating the UK and commonwealth wouldn't be a good move for a failing religion if you think about it logically and for what 3,000 people that live on a little Island that Argentine fantasies over. Especially when PM Cameron has warned the pope to not approach the subject and the UK has a strong history of delivering beat downs to any pope that exceeds his remit. Essentially the church and all of the people that support it in these countries is far more important than Argentina's farcical claim.
No surprises here.
@9
Mar 25th, 2013 - 09:49 am - Link - Report abuse 0This is a sensible position from the Vatican. Think of it for their point of view, they have nothing to win by entering into this and would be accused of bias towards Argentina (this being compounded by the fact that it is a Catholic country). Also, anything but total sovereignty over the islands would be deemed as failure and he would probably be marked as a traitor to the cause. To become involved in this would be folly especially when they Catholic Church has so many more important issues to deal with and issues which really effect the lives of Catholics (abortion, contraception, sex before marriage, paedophilia, sexism etc...). To wade in here where there is no chance of solving anything would undermine the Church and start a papacy those priorities are severely misguided.
Also, what people seem to forget here (my Argentinean friends included, is that as a Bishop in BA, Bergoglio had to pander to his sea, thus the comments about Angles fighting with the troops (this is patently not true). Francis as Pope has the Catholic world to consider and it would demean his office to make this a priority.
CFK’s government should have sounded them out beforehand to see what their position would be and this looks a little bit embarrassing for them.
I wonder if her aim was to discredit the Pope in the eyes of Argentines for betraying the nation and not supporting the Falklands obssession? Timmerman has already had to deny that they hadn't been spreading rumours to discredit him prior to the election - when they clearly had.
Mar 25th, 2013 - 09:59 am - Link - Report abuse 0Is it me or does the photo above look as though the Pope is trying not to laugh at her?
Mar 25th, 2013 - 10:29 am - Link - Report abuse 0@9 BK
Mar 25th, 2013 - 11:01 am - Link - Report abuse 0Well if the Angels were literally fighting with Argentine soldiers in 1982, then they must be crap fighters.
Now if you want to believe what many people thought for years, that the outcome of battles depended on the will of God, then the Angels couldn't have been fighting with Argentina, they were obviously fighting along side the British. And because Britain won, it's obvious that God believes that the Falklands are British.
Therefore, the Vatican by not involving itself along side the anti-Christ - Cristina - is following God's will of the Falklands remaining British.
So since CFK doesn't have God on her side, perhaps she should just throw in the towel before the angry mobs give her a short drop with a sudden stop.
Of course, all that 'God' deciding battles is a fallacy. The British won because we were better fighters, had better morale, and we knew we were on the side of right.
Your beloved CFK hasn't much time left - the end is nigh!
This is hilarious. How many people did she take with her to Rome? And at what cost (in dollars)? And not one of them thought to check in with the Vatican, and ask if there might be a change in policy if she bleated to the Pope about her obsession?
Mar 25th, 2013 - 11:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0Timerman, Timerman, Timerman.... What is it you do for your money again? Its supposed to be that diplomatic channel, communication, prepare the ground for the big cheeses malarky...
One question from a British diplomat was all it took to dismantle the CFK circus. Price of a phone call.
The main reason the UK won was the Argentine navy fled the field of battle. Had they stood and fought they would have suffered huge losses but probably prevented a landing. All they had to do was disable or sink one carrier.
Mar 25th, 2013 - 11:46 am - Link - Report abuse 0Once the beachhead was a established it was game over. The Chicos were never going to win a battle against elite brigades from frontline NATO forces - and they didn't.

Mar 25th, 2013 - 12:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The problem is that Argentina doesn't want to work for anything, they just want it all right now.
They've had 30 years where they could've impoved relations with the Falkland Islanders, to show that they were different than the Junta, but that would've involved some effort on their part.
It's much easier to sit back and whine and hope someone will just give them everything they want.
Just like hoping God would somehow act on their behalf! It's ridiculous!

@7,11 I wonder at your view that the Pope is just a figurehead. It's generally accepted that, in any large organisation, the leader takes advice. This is often because organisations that swing from one viewpoint to another may be seen as unstable. Hardly the impression that the Catholic church would want to give. Especially given the proclamation, in 1870, of the dogma of papal infallibility.
Mar 25th, 2013 - 01:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@9 You should perhaps note that, over the years, popes have gradually been forced to give up the temporal power that they once wielded. To quote: Currently, in addition to the expansion of the Christian faith and doctrine, the popes are dedicated to ecumenism and interreligious dialogue, charitable work, and the defense of human rights. I believe your idea about the Pope being able to intervene went out with the Middle Ages.
@10 The pope is “supposedly” the earthly figure of christ I think not. In the Catholic church, the pope is seen as the successor to Saint Peter the Apostle. It is traditionally held that he was crucified upside down at his own request, since he saw himself unworthy to be crucified in the same way as Jesus Christ. It would be difficult to contend that an elected human, with a known life before election, could be the earthly figure of christ. But he does hold the title of Vicar of Jesus Christ.
@12 It's not a sea, it's a see. And Angles were a Germanic tribe that settled in England.
@18 Surely you remember that for around 10 years they did try. Then Nestor K realised that trying to act like good guys wasn't getting them anywhere. In 2007, he tore up the agreements over hydrocarbons exploration and reduced co-operation on fishing.

Then they follow one to the pub telling you that scientific 'theories' are all truth, without seemingly understanding the underlying philosophical viewpoint of fundamentalist postivism that they adhere to... then they call all thiests hypocrites for trying to force their opinions down people's throats. It's those kinds of athiests that I really don't have a lot of time for, and their mega-grey chat about life being grey.
Mar 26th, 2013 - 12:17 am - Link - Report abuse 0Hitler was a well known athiest, however he did dabble in occultism following long forgotten german folk religions due to their alignment with his nationalistic views. Mar 26th, 2013 - 11:28 am - Link - Report abuse 0A popular image of the Nazis is that they were fundamentally anti-Christian while devout Christians were anti-Nazi. The truth is that German Christians supported the Nazis because they believed that Adolf Hitler was a gift to the German people from God.
Adolf Hitler was baptized in a Catholic Church in 1889 and was never be excommunicated or in any other way officially censured by the Catholic Church. Hitler frequently referred to God and Christianity in his various speeches and writings.
In one 1933 speech, he said that To do justice to God and our own conscience, we have turned once more to the German Volk. In another he said: We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.”

#42 Hitler was an anti-communist who occassionally invoked religion in his fight against atheistic communism; he was certainly not personally devout, at least in any conventionally understood sense, and at times cursed Christianity as a Jewish invention that had weakened the Aryan race. State atheism (as opposed to the personal atheist convictions of the likes of Marx, which I don't share but do respect) was one of the biggest mistakes of 20th century communism, and gave a rallying focus to reactionaries from the Nazis to the mujahideen/al-Qaeda nutters that America funded to fight the commies in Afghanistan; how did that one work out again???
