Oh no another CFK mouthpiece, the article started off well but ended on the same old note, They just don't get it, the referendum is only the begining of the end game, which ultimately will no doubt in the years to come lead to Independence.
The 2 issues here are, Colonies and Self determination, Firstly the peoples of the Falklands cannot be denied their right to self determination. Secondly handing over the Falklands in one form or another to Argentina, would actually create a colony. But Argentina refuses to accept either of these realities

HOw in this century can we still have colonies!!!!???????????

In effect the genetic makeup of RG land suggests colonism - right or wrong?

It suggest a population was imp[lanted in SA, and then leads on to suggest that by creating RGland, the popultion of europeans had to systematically opress and overrun the local population.

For fudge sake RGland - YOU ARE (GENTICS PROVE IT) A NATION THAT IS A PRODUCT OF COLONISM! you really are a bunch of fudging monkeys if you can not see it!

So why not give patagonia to the native indians and show how really equal and balanced you are about colonial/territorial situations.

    Lying, greedy, thieving RG's!

Usual rubbish from the Argies. The UK is NOT in breach of any UN Resolutions as confirmed by the UN Secretary-General in December.

Our delegation insisted the Malvinas are Argentine and the Islands are occupied territory.

Hmm, I think there has only been one UN resolution saying the Islands are occupied territory and demanding the occupiers leave and that was in 1982.

Let's face it, even if this went to the ICJ and Argentina lost, they would still be rattling on and on about it as they care not for laws nor judgements.

    @7 Shed-time

We all know that Argentina only follows international law when it rules in their favour, but at least the rest of the world would come to understand how all of Argentina's claims are outright lies, based on an illegal and failed military garrison that was on the Islands for 2 months in 1832/1833.

The reason the Argentine government won't got to the ICJ and get this 'issue' resolved, is because it's too useful a tool to distract the multitudes from the fact that successive Argentine governments are corrupt and inept.

Until Argentine 'gets' over this, they will never progress as a country and a democracy.

Like spoiled children they refuse to acknowledge that they are wrong, and they want, and want and want. Children of course often learn from their mistakes, something that Argentinians can't seem to grasp.

In a way, there's a small part of me that hopes Argentina will try something monumentally stupid, like attempting to invade. It would be an act of war, and this time Britain should ensure that the Argentine surrender includes the dropping of their erroneous claims, removing the offending parts out of their constitution, and reforming their education system to tell the real history of the Falklands.

I know, I know, it's a pipe dream and I really wouldn't want a war because many people on both sides would suffer and perhaps be killed, but like I said there is that small part of me that wishes they would.

Sure, 'territorial nationalism' always needs some long stolen piece of land to groan on about and unite the people. China uses it. Hitler used it. KFC uses it.

It is the lifeblood of authoritarianism.

Brawer is deluded. These British “lawmakers” have no mandate to discuss anything regarding the sovereignty of the Falklands. They may as well discuss it with the pixies at the bottom of their garden - it makes about as much sense.

As I understand it they the Argies cannot sit down and discuss sovereignty because they are constrained by their constitution to only discuss when the UK will hand the Falklands over to them. The UK no longer has any right to discuss such a handover as this is now in the hands of the self governing government of the Falklands who are willing to talk to Argies but will not accept any such precondition as discussing their handover to Argentina. I think it reasonable to conclude that it suits Argentina to keep the pot bubbling as a distraction which I know is very much the view of everyone outside Argentina who looks at the matter. Argentina has huge natural resources which somehow it keeps failing to develop. The answer is probably going to be after Falklands oil flows in 2016/17 the country declares independence and signs a treaty with the UK for mutual defense.

“A bilateral meeting...”, does anyone else think this is going to be used as BS Argentine propaganda?

“Argentina [...]DEMANDS that the UN resolutions on the dispute be complied and this means both sides HAVE TO sit down and dialogue”. The UN does not demand though, does it? Yet more BS propaganda.

Mara Brawer says the Falklanders are implanted. I would be interested to know how many people have emigrated to Argentina, and how many persons of other SA nationalities are also working there, since the Falklands War. Not percentages, but actual numbers. The fact that Falklanders are starting from such a small population number to build up their population through self-controlled immigration should not be used against them as propaganda, and I think Mara Brawer should also take a look at her own family tree because she does not look like an Amerindian to me.

If Mara Brawer thinks that voting to keep the current relationship with the UK somehow enslaves the people of the Falklands to London Government, who in turn can then treat them as some kind of commodity and totally ignore the opinions of the local population, then this in itself should be expanation enough in the UN as to why Argentina should be rebuffed. This quote should be highlighted to BKM in any correspondence regarding Argentine attitudes to the Falklanders, and other peoples in general.

The Brits in the delegation are there for trade, not to trade away sovereignty. If Argentina want to move up in the world, talk about trade. If they want to rake over mythology, let them talk amongst themselves.

This meeting in Quito is unlikely to be of much importance viz a viz the Falklands/Malvinas dispute being engineered by Argentina.

This unimportant Argentine delegate is, obviously, just following orders from la Kretina to make the most of nothing and stir up trouble again.

“intense but ‘respectful’” Translation: The AR delegation acted like idiots and tried to bait and bully the Island reps (given the childish and predictable comments from Brawer), and the Islanders didn't take the bait and remained the adults in the room.

Excellent note to the legislator, Mara Brawer.

The lawmaker said that during talks with the UK delegation in Quito “our delegation insisted that the Malvinas are Argentine and that the archipelago is occupied territory and certainly not a colonized population, but rather implemented”.

He also ruled that the “conflict is a third”, and dialogue is claiming that the UN should take place between the governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom.

Furthermore, in the recent referendum in the Falkland Islands “, recognized the local people living on the islands were British, and therefore are not ratified the third leg of the conflict.”

Finally, legislators belonging to the “Front for Victory” pooling of President Cristina Fernandez, and represents the City of Buenos Aires, said “how in the XXI century can still have colonies?

All these arguments are true. In the Decolonization Committee of the United Nations, of the 16 cases of colonialism, 10 are caused by the United Kingdom. This comparison illustrates everything.

Ban Ki-moon says the international community is more convinced than ever that colonialism has no place in the modern world, ”said Ban.” Eradication of Colonialism, according to the principles of the Charter and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations, is our common endeavor. '
Refers to the UN resolutions and the Decolonization Committee.

In other words, the elimination of colonialism and imperialism of English Siglo21.
is what is waiting for the international community and world public opinion.

You agree wholeheartedly with YOUR mouthpiece - what a surprise. A meeting in “neutral ” Ecuador ! How unbiased could that be. I note that the usual monologue was given, Did the UK delegation say anything or were they too bored to reply ?
World opinion means Argentine govt. opinion
International opinion means Argentina's sycophantic chums opinion as dictated by Argentina.

“how in the XXI century can we still have colonies?”

These guys are funny, the world is covered in colonies and one is Argentina! There are no new colonies and the Falklands is not new, infact older than Argentina itself. They are trying to apply modern law to 180 years ago and of course this will always fail!
Also i think Japan is on the UKs side, the speech about bullys tryng to take land and talking about Thatcher etc. Thats all Argentina is, a bully trying to illegally claim land

“people living on the islands were British”

Many were born in the Falkland Islands.
St Helenians and Tristan da Cunhans are British.

What they are not and have no wish to be are Argentinian as this would lower their living standards.

Argentina cannot run a huge country properly so Argentina running the Falklands would lead to all the fish being made extinct, the islands would be filled with houses where the toilet was the bedroom or the middle of a carpet, and they would be unable to find any oil as they have to get in outside help to find their own oil.
In other words all the argentines would do in the Falklands is mess up the place totally within 5 years.

@22 Your “legislator” is hilarious. What she has demonstrated is that she “hears” what she wants to hear.
“Argentina has no intention of imposing its sovereignty over the Islands but demands that the UN resolutions on the dispute be complied and this means both sides have to sit down and dialogue”. Oh dear, that argie word “demands” again. Does she have enough neurones to understand that you can't “demand” compliance with something that is NON-BINDING?
“The Argentine lawmaker revealed that next June a delegation of British members of parliament will be visiting Argentina to address such issues as bilateral trade, cultural cooperation and “why not talks over the Malvinas sovereignty”. It's fairly easy to understand why not. Timerman thought he could have discussions with Hague but without the Islanders. He didn't get them.
“The UK delegation said that the emphasis of the visit should be on trade and investments, with no priority for the Malvinas issue, but I anticipate that talking about the Islands won’t be absent from the overall discussions”, said Brawer.” Ever watched a UK delegation get up and walk out? You'll be able to see it in June!
“The lawmaker underlined that during the talks with the UK delegation in Quito “our delegation insisted that the Malvinas are Argentine and that the archipelago is an occupied territory and certainly not a colonized population but rather implanted”. You don't get to ”insist“.
”Furthermore in the recent referendum in the Malvinas Islands, “the local population that lives in the Islands acknowledged they were British, and thus ratified that they are not the third leg of the conflict”. No they didn't. They voted to retain their current political status.
”Finally the lawmaker which belongs to the grouping “Victory Front” from President Cristina Fernandez and represents the City of Buenos Aires said that “how in the XXI century can we still have colonies?” We don't have any and argieland isn't getting one!
