Ruling-party presidential candidate Nicolas Maduro said on Tuesday at the childhood home of late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez that he felt that his deceased mentor appeared to him in the form of a “little bird”, blessed him and made a strong call ‘on to (electoral) battle’. Read full article

Given their proponency of the 'intercession of the dead' (ancestor worship), has the Catholic chief beatified Chavez after this miracle during his path to canonisation?

Do they need some of his dessicated bones to worship?

Only thing it indicates is your fine ability of monolingualism and lack of understanding of the flavours of the language. Nothing else.

But as most of you are monolingual artists, it's easy to make you believe just about anything.

Is “monolingual” your insult for the day?

Not speaking Spanish is hardly a crime - it's a sign of poverty, especially when you all feel compelled to learn English anyway. I speak French but only because I work with them - not out of choice.

Not speaking Spanish doesn't make anyone monolingual. Is a German that speaks English and Dutch monolingual because he doesn't speak Spanish?

Doesn't Maduro realise that he could have mobilised far more support if he'd suggested his likeness to Freddie Mercury with a beer belly? Probably wise. Mercury fans would probably have shot him in a moment.

@11 Oh dear. And yet you decry Jesus walking on water, the pointlessness of homosexuality and the proven science of cloning. Just as a matter of interest, what is the point of queers?
@17 Have you looked inside your mouth? Big as it is, do you have more than one tongue? If you do, you are a mutant. Or an alien. Or a freak. Or an argie. Or all four!

    Nice attempt at deflection.

I think the stupid-as-pigs-dribble bus driver will get elected because he will run a fear campaign. 'If you don't vote for me your benefits will stop' and that is even more effective than displaying his mental incapacity by believing 'a bird told me to fight for the Presidency'. Although you can hear these anecdotes about being given 'a sign' all over SoAm.

Maybe he can see that appearing mentally unstable has been no hinderance to CFK so he is giving it a go too.

It is such ridiculous public statements as this that make political fodder for conservative and elite-owned media. Maduro, no matter what he believes he saw, if anything, is a figure of humor for these people, and he obviously is making a private moment, if it existed at all, too public for transparent political gain. What a pity that his audience is that part which can be manipulated for votes by clever, but often stupid, politicians while the image of Venezuela around the world is shaped by the opposing media. This is too bad. Bigger countries that want to have control over the regime in whatever way they can will be planning and scheming with every such utterance Maduro makes. He ought to realize by now that he is no Chavez, as far as political savvy goes. But when do they EVER learn?

Monolingualism is your new insult? You seemed have moved on from insulting sexuality since post 25.

“How can it ever be your business what other people do with their own arses? Are you jelous they can?”

It's always a pleasure to highlight your hypocrisy. In the following forum you took perverse pleasure in teaming up with Think after he FIRST raised sexuality as an attack point without any previous prompting or reason:

    http://en.mercopress.com/2013/03/15/falklands-current-cruise-season-much-quieter-and-rather-turbulent

I especially like your post 103 where you call me “lass” and serenaded me with these lyrics ”te voy a romper el orto, te voy a romper el orto. Y de tanto treque-treque te va a salir humo del ojete”.

For those that are indeed monolingual, cut and paste into Google Translate and then decide how hypocritical Stevie really is.

Stick to your convictions Stevie, changing them to suit circumstance is a sure sign you lack integrity.

By the way, talking to a bird makes you insane unless you are Snow White:

@25 Certainly not! The “arse” is made for one purpose. Removal point for faecal matter. Anyone who uses it for anything else is a pervert. And thus we come to whether it is my business. Of course it is. Perverts should be removed from the gene pool. As a priority. Permanently. Publicly. And with extreme prejudice.

@35 Conq Conq Conq Conq Conq you really are mutton dressed as lamb by using that name.

Considering your lack of intelligence and belief that the arse is only made for the removal of faecal matter, then I can only assume by your posts that you speak out of your arse.

I am so glad my very existence pisses you off so much.

    @37 Stevie

Oh! Now that you are called out on your behaviour it was all a joke and flirting!

Please don't assume that my intelligence level is as low as yours, because I can guarantee it is not. You can't even get my name right after all these weeks. You saw Think attacking me using my sexuality without any prompting by me and decided to join in.

You even lavished praise on Think and all I got was a rather ineffectual dig at being called a lass and these song lyrics:

”te voy a romper el orto, te voy a romper el orto. Y de tanto treque-treque te va a salir humo del ojete”.

I've told you before, stick to your convictions Stevie, your own words condemn you show your lack of integrity better than I ever could.

I notice you didn't castigate Conqs latest pathetic comment in a bid to reply to me. Typical. A fair weather friend but always a hypocrite.

Monolingualism… pfft – a bird told me you should learn to argue.

Telling you that you don't HAV E to come out of the closet twice a day has nothing to do with other homosexuals, just yourself.
Don't hide behind a rainbow flag.

There is nothing you can say to conq in order to castigate him, he understands two things; “Barf, barf” and “TO GROUND!”
He's a very simple man, little meaning in wasting time there.

Monoligualism is still merely a fact, not an argument.

    @39 Stevie

Please stop proving you limited abilities.

Think raised sexuality FIRST on that thread not ME. I am not hiding behind anything, unlike yourself who is now twisting and squirming after calling me names and quoting obscene lyrics. I told you that I was happy to let you hang yourself with your own words and now they are coming back to haunt you. You mistakenly assumed that I was fighting back at you to stop when if you read through, you will see that as soon as you had said what I needed, I left.

I have had more posts of Conq closely followed by Think. Both of them think nothing of being homophobic or racist. However you are quite happy to go along with Think when his opinions align with yours - I really hope you have lilly white skin like Think because most of his comments I remove are based on his racist names and references to those that don't.

I agree monolingualism is a fact around the world. Indeed after travelling through 28 countries I would have to say that it is a fact in almost every country and not just a British one as you seem espouse. If you are claiming that many posters on here are monolingual then you are stating this without proof or fact.... always a dangerous thing to do because what you say will always come back to trip you up in the future.

    What amused me was:
“Mr Maduro also claimed a centuries-old curse would fall on the heads of those who do not vote for him in next week's election to pick a successor to late leader Hugo Chavez.
Mr Maduro's invocation of the ”curse of Macarapana“ was the latest twist in an increasingly surreal fight between him and opposition leader Henrique Capriles for control of the South American OPEC nation of 29 million people.
”If anyone among the people votes against Nicolas Maduro, he is voting against himself, and the curse of Macarapana is falling on him,“ said Maduro, referring to the 16th-century Battle of Macarapana when Spanish colonial fighters massacred local Indian forces.
Wearing a local indigenous hat at a rally in Amazonas state, a largely jungle territory on the borders of Brazil and Colombia, Maduro compared Capriles and the opposition coalition to the enslaving Spanish occupiers.”

Also, the threat from salvadoreño “right wing elements” is totally risible - the right wing in El Salvador is not organised enough to be able to “punch itself out of a paper bag” so, in my opinion, it is totally incapable of getting involved in Venezuelan presidential elections.

I had never heard of Zelmar Michelini - (I am far too young!) - but I don;t see the connection between present day myth making by Maduro with the deaths of Guevara and Allende.

I don't judge people for their belief. Although I don't have one, should I start judging everyone else for having one, I'd be doing little else.
What is important to me is what the man does for his people. Should it turn out he is a religious fanatic, I'm sure the Venezuelan people will deal with it accordingly.

All three I mentioned where killed by US interference, in one way or another. Guevara directly, with the help of Bolivian soldiers. Michelini in the Operación Condor and Allende a victim of Pinochet with the well-recorded help from USA.
