This is what happens when you spend all day screaming about some Islands off the coast and other countries' problems, instead of fixing their own problems/addressing their crumbling infrastructure. Deserve it they do.

According to the Argentine press , the first thing the good residents of La Plata did was to set up picket lines to complain about a lack of flood prevention measures ( thus preventing the rescue services from getting to the affected areas ) and then to loot supermarkets .
The president has deliberately avoided liasing with City and Provincial authorities in order to claim any credit for humanitarian efforts for herself .

Tubalcain , I am not gloating . Why don't YOU fly out from your safe European home and go and help ? Flights are about EU400 and availability is good .
Argentines are their own worst enemies , and their refusal to self criticise and learn from past mistakes is legendary .
Buenos Aires floods all the time , but la Pres thinks it more important to give people bread and circuses in the shape of free football coverage and handouts than to do something about it .

From where we are sitting its quite clear who the losers are and its definitely not the Brits or the Falkland Islanders. $7 aday? 30% inflation, sinking Peso, crime out of control. Drowning in your attic would be a terrible way to go and Yes we feel sorry for ordinary Argentinians all the time. But as the years pass we also note that these same ordinary Argentinians keep voting for people who are unlikely to worry about infrastructure.

Also, recently one of your fellow RG posters on here wished for a tsunami to wash all the Falkland Islanders away. I guess this isn't what they had in mind.

I told Toby a long while ago Argentina won't be able to deal with this climate change. Their sewers are collapsing, they've allowed substantial building with no infrastructure improvements. This was a bad storm made into a disaster because of an apathetic population and a corrupt gov't.
They had a supposed decade of “good times” what is there to show for it?
    Nada
Now they are in or just about to go into depression.
These storms are going to get worse and the people will suffer while
the Pols move to Miami to spend their loot.

    From today's Herald :
La Plata mayor in trouble after controversial tweet

La Plata mayor Pablo Bruera saw himself in the middle of a scandal after tweeting that he had been assisting families affected by the storm when he was in fact outside of the country and only landed in Argentina on Wednesday morning.
“Visiting the refugee centres since last night,” he tweeted, along with a photograph in which he could be seen carrying a water bottle in an evacuation centre. In the photo, however, readers noted that there was sunlight coming in through the window.
Eventually it was discovered that the government official had not been there last night, since he only arrived in Argentina at 9:25 am this morning in a flight from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“Due to an error in one of my tweets by my communications team, I must clarify that I only got here this morning,” he tweeted, and clarified that he had been helping the storm victims “at all times.”
“Of course I will take all necessary measures to make sure that we respect the veracity of the information,” he concluded.

And now you see what I gloated everytime a natural disaster affected the UK, USA, and Europe. Because I knew the moment something happened in Argentina (this is the first major natural disaster in the last decade), all your fake outrage about me being such an indecent and wicked person for celebrating the harm bellafen others (because you yourselves would NEVER do that if it were to happen in Argentina), was a big fat LIE. :)

I knew everyone here as demonstrated in the first 20 responses by the foreigners would be celebrating. Since I already knew that was the type of people and characters you are, even when constantly averring not to be, I felt free to reciprocate.

Oh well, yes, I have no problem with you people being happy of people dying. We are your enemies after all. But then please, spare me the shameful theater when disaster comes calling home (and it will hit you in Europe and the USA much more often than us), and I thank mother nature that all of you and your children suffer, and suffer PLENTY.

Can't wait for that next heatwave to kill some 50,000 French, Brits, Spanish, Germans, Italians, etc... like 2003 (talk about pathetic lack of development when simple heat kills you). Should I remind you about some of the sickening comments you have posted about natural disasters in Australia.

You are no better than the people you castigate. If anything you are worse because you use other people's behaviour to justify your own..... sort of how pack rapes go I guess. You don't start it but are quite happy jumping in to get your rocks off when the rest of the crowd gives you a nod.

I will await your apology in vain I am sure for I have never taken glee in the suffering of Argentineans in these situations, only the ones they have made for themselves.

Your parents must be so proud that the person they raised so lacks a moral backbone and conviction that he can't “wait for that next heatwave to kill some 50,000” innocent people all because some trolls on the internet decided it was their right to belittle or make fun of the thousands of people affected by these floods.

By the way, are these floods natural or the result of government decisions? Will anyone every know? I know we have enquiries into any natural disaster here in a bid to prevent a future occurence.

I'm sure you have made light and fun of that too now haven't you..... something about the repeatative nature of natural disasters in my country.

I think you are pathetic and ineffectual as well. Indeed you are juvenile and lack social skills. And I can assure you I do feel sorry for you.

So hate along, you are pathetic already.

That said, I don't agree with conqueror that your sort should be removed from the genepool.

I couldn't avoid googling that name that you guys mention all the time.
Now I understand why he left such an impression. Great laugh!!

I will continue his legacy with a quote:

”Sudaca me suda aca, yanqui :)

And it's yanqui, with lower-case letters.”

Sorry I think you have lost the conversation. Maybe the voices in your head are interfering with reality again?
    Ask CFK for some lithium
She told me it works great!

Not at all, I'm twisting in laughter here.
I've merely started increasing the dosis of your own medicine.

I tried a decent conversation with arguments instead of personal attacks. You want none of it. Fine by me. Lets have fun, but lets all have fun.

    @63 Nostrils
Can't wait to see a link to an example of where I cried like a baby because you defeated me. What do I keep telling about your ability to argue?

    @65 Stevie

    “Anglolatino”
Still can't get my name right..... doesn't bode well for you so far.

    “That means nothing.”
And yet you read it and replied so it must have meant something.

“I think you are pathetic and ineffectual as well. Indeed you are juvenile and lack social skills.”
It always warms my heart when I finally wear someone down enough that their only response is an outright attack. I'm glad I provided you with a list of nouns in post 64.

You obviously don't think I am that ineffectual after I have bested you on so many different occasions and the icing is that I've lead you so many times to expose your true colours by your own words. Guys like you just can't help yourself. You exist to trip yourself up. You do half my job on here.

“And I can assure you I do feel sorry for you.”
Well I can assure you, that you elicit little emotion in me other than glee.

“So hate along, you are pathetic already.”
See there you go again showing you lack even the most basic of comprehension skills. I don't hate. Hate destroys your soul. I find it impossible to hate you. Hate is such a strong emotion and as I have stated, you elicit very little emotional response from me. Just intellectual superiority. And glee.

As you have shown time after time, there is only one thing that is pathetic between you and me and it is your abilities....all of them, from intellectual to reasoning to cognitive.

I guarantee you'll lose interest in replying to me as guys like you argue purely to be a contrarian and that doesn't sustain you in the long run.

Convictions do. My convictions so outweigh yours that we ain't even in the same league Stevieboy!

The very fact that you need to set yourself on a pedestal is the best indication of your intellectual “superiority”.

The day I feel the need to compare myself to you, I'll surely let you know ;)

You see Anglolatino, I'll never lose (*) interest in replying to you. What you see as besting me is for me a constant source to the cheapest of laughters.

Today i went to one of the many donation centers in Buenos Aires with my children. We donated a quilt and two blankets plus rice and pastas. They asked me where i was from and i told them Londres. Two of the people shook my hand and thanked me warmly. Today my kids learned that helping people in need is a good thing. As we left i felt very moved that we were able to help others in need in the midst of a crises. As for most of the people who have posted above ,how will you be feeling about yourselves and what you have written. I would hope deeply ashamed but i doubt it.

@82 they can't do much when CFK, Scioli and Macri all slash budget for works to prevent floods and instead increase money spent on propaganda:
    http://www.perfil.com/politica/Cada-vez-se-invierte-menos-en-prevenir-inundaciones-20130406-0018.html

Sad but true: the only thing the state in Argentina does, and does well, is propaganda.

Well you still have football for everyone.
Lots of dead people from poorly maintained trains, flooding, poisoned rivers, open sewage in the city streets, no cancer or HIV meds
but they have free football on tv
    What a horrible place
How can these people be so stupid?

@85 “ How can these people be so stupid?” I wish I knew... I understand the poor are uneducated, but this doesn't explain why the middle classes are almost as stupid.

If the Argentinian government hat spent some of the money they spend on free coverage of football matches (estimated at $1 billion since 2009) on flood measures maybe most of this latest tragedy could have been avoided !

Thre are no commercial breaks during live football matches shown on state TV in Argentina just government propaganda!

With at little budget investigating it seems most of the $ that was supposed to be used to control flooding in La Plata was diverted to Techopolis.
