Economy minister Hernan Lorenzino became the laughing stock of Argentina when a video was revealed showing him suspending an interview with Greek television arguing that Argentine inflation ‘is too complex’ and telling his aides, ‘I want to leave’. One of the aides then tells the Greek reporter that in Argentina ‘we don’t discuss inflation’. Read full article

I'm Argentinean and I feel ashamed of most of the attitudes of our government, as many other people here. But I'm reading some comments which tend to generalise our people, and that's not fair. You cannot compare the people with this shameless government, so get informed properly before saying what you asume is true.

I never said it would. That's why they (and also you Australians) were completely fooled by pretty amateurish politicians (just look at how intelligent W. Bush and Howard look!), like three year old kids being tempted with a lollypop so you can steal their bag of candies.

Not very impressive societies when they can send your children to die on a fabrication and you still don't realize it. Really, to talk about a fabricated inflation number is unmitigated gall.

This incident just shows how amateurish these politicians are.

An experienced politician would've given a 'non' answer, then tried to deflect the topic onto something else.

The last thing any politician should do is shy away from the press. The press are like sharks and when they smell blood they start circling.

Argentine politicians should take lessons from other countries on how to 'handle' the media.

However, considering the Argentine President refuses to face the media, it's hardly surprising that the rest of her 'government' are useless when faced with them too.

This is going to haunt the current Argentine regime. It has made them look foolish, unprepared (he was the economic minister FFS, what topic did he think they would be questioning him about?), frightened, inept and amateurish.

It's not a good way to advertise your country or your government.

Can somebody explain to us all how Greeks can be “Anglo”?

    ----

This Argentine Government is a classic among classics: Now incapable of defending their fake economic statistics they have decided on a new track which is just to refuse to discuss aspects of it that they cannot defend.

Remarkably this is the exact fashion in which the Campora/Malvo gang behave on Mercopress... defelection or total refusal to answer direct questions.

    --

“”“”You cannot compare the people with this shameless government, so get informed properly before saying what you asume is true.“”“

Well the problem USL is that the observed behaviour of the Argentine posters on Mercopress conforms exactly to that of your Government.
So coming here TO get informed, by direct communication WITH Argentines, leaves one with the clear picture that the vast majority of Argentines support their Government and all of its actions and foibles...and act in the same fashion.

If that is NOT the case then YOU, and other Argentines, NEED to speak-up and openly condemn your government and those Argentines who not only only support the deceits of your government but also everything they say & do.

Only YOU can inform us, sadly you are currently leaving that job up to Campora trolls and indoctrinated Malvinistas....

    ----

You could start by telling us how much coverage this interview has had in Argentina and why it has not been on the frontpage of every paper, magazine and opening slot of TV news.... as it most assuredly would be in most ”First-World“ democracies.

    ----

Oh and can you explain why Greeks are ”Anglos”...? Perhaps have a word with Think (who claims to be Argentine) thinks all the Greek nation are English.

Now tell us this; Who voted that “government” of yours into power? And who did YOU vote for? Or did you not bother because you knew it would make no difference?
@28 Clegg was, and is, a necessary evil. It was very important to get the Labour Party OUT of government. The Labour Party have a number of similarities to the Peronists. Fortunately, as polls and recent election results show, Clegg's ineptitude is turning the LibDems into a party that will be unelectable. However, comparing Clegg with CFK shows that there may be a place for him. In argieland. He speaks Spanish, so there would be no language barrier. He has a nice enough looking Spanish wife, so that will put CFK on the back foot. And his “policies” might even be good for argieland. They can't be any worse than the current ones!

    BEYOND PATHETIC ANSWERS.
Beyond what minister lorenzino answered, mercopress commmits more of it's usuall omisions. For being honest, i don't know wether this news was published by chanels and radios which aren't aligned with the government, however, it was published in página12 today, which is a pro kirchnerist newspaper and leftist. Search it in www.pagina12.com.ar
In relation to lorenzino's answer, for some journalists sometimes their problem is that not all the time they receive the answer that they want to hear. Minister lorenzino was clear when he said what is the inflation level in argentina according to the indec, and it's obvious that neather him nor any other minister is going to valid what private statistics publish every month. That greek journalist or any other can agree or not on lorenzino's answer, however nobody can say that he refused to answer the question about inflation level. Anyway he should have explained deeply the true causes of the problem, many minister often do it, i heard them in different oportunities, thats' why i was sorprised when i read that he said they never talk about inflation not even with the argentine media, that answer was really pathetic.

I live in Norfolk UK, there are vast ( it's all relevant ) swathes of land here that are factory farmed. Elections were never transparent here, so fraud is a big possibility. Also, many, many people voted for CFK in exchange for jobs, plans, or simply, convenience. I despise those types. It's clear that these populists govts. are a fail in Argentina, yet people keep voting them.

The people that complain are not only middle class. And I don't think middle class people are blind sheep, quite the contrary. They are usually educated enough to see through the lies, and they don't stand to gain political or business favours. Mostly lower and higher class voted for CFK.

@53 fraud isn't as big in Argentina so as to completely invalidate the results of the elections. I remember back in 2011 all the middle classes supported CFK and were very happy with her policies. They didn't care that she was a dictator, as long as the economy was doing well so they could buy a new TV. There were also lots of middle class people believing the Kirchnerist propaganda. The middle classes think they are smart but they are just as stupid as the poor.
