Cruise ships need to avoid Argentina, this Govt. sponsored intimidation is going to get out of hand when some of these pirates try and board a British/American/European cruise ship and attack the passengers.

I was standing in a UK bank next to an elderly couple who were going on a cruise of SA and enquired about some Argentine Pesos. The woman behind the bank till looked puzzled so I chipped in and told them that the Arge currency was next to worthless and for them just to take dollars.

The 'Blue dollar' closed on a new record high of AR$9.40 yesterday.
The Argie economy is only going one-way.

    Correct,
Old news but good to see it getting publicity in uk. Final Scora last summer was in our favour - we lost a few but Arg probably lost more with Punta Arenas the winner- and stands to loose a LOT more if it continues as companies have warned Arg that they could pull out of Buenos Aires and transfer cruise passenger exchanges to Montevideo or even southern Brazil.

“The effect on so many visitors is a huge blow to the Islands’ tourist industry”

Let us not forget it has adversley affected Argentina's economy too as tourist ships have shunned Argentina too.

The Cruise industry doesn't have that big margins. Convince insurance companies that the Argie government isn't trustworthy and the premiums of any ship stopping in an Argie port will go through the roof. That will do far more damage than a few cancellations ever can.

'Another sign of isolation and lawlessness -
The only war that Cristina Kirchner had not anticipated was against the UN , the most powerful organization of the international community.
Broken ties with historic and strategic allies, upon further isolation of Argentina since 1983 and out of patience in many capitals, the tough UN document on judicial reform became a paradigm and symbol. It measures the extent of loneliness and to establish to what extent is a reform that will end illegal erasing any notion of judicial independence Argentina.
Contrary to what it says and rustic furious Rebuttal of the Argentine government, the Special Rapporteur of the United Nations, Brazil Gabriela Knaul, proved to have studied every bill sent by the President to the Parliament domesticated . He noted, accurately, against the two major reforms: that co-opt the judiciary to the reigning political corporation which the Argentines become permanent victims of their state.
In this tragedy democratic party will come with the election of members of the Judicial Council and with the limitations of the precautionary measures that protected citizens from government decisions until the final decision of Justice....

Why don't the cruise lines cancel their Argentine stopovers? They are aiding and abetting Argentine criminality and petty retaliation for harm they have disillusionally imagined done them by England and the Falkland Islanders. Why reward Argentina and punish the Falklands for Argentine aggresion? (Having lived for years among that criminally-minded segment of Argentine society, and knowing many Falkland Islanders, the cruise lines might eventually find that History rubs their noses in having sided with the Argentine axis of Evil, rather than stand up for an innocent, good people.)

PhraseWizard - Cruise Ships by and large did start dropping Arg ports instead and coming to Falklands from midsummer onwards! Most of our losses from then on were actually weather- we had a lot of windy days that unfortunatley coincided with large vessel vists! The Argies claim it was politiacal all the same though!

Thanks, ISLANDER1 !!!!! I didn't know that weather (an act of God, force majeur) could be hijacked so easily by Argentine inveterate liars . . . what a relief to know the truth! Of course, it's no surprise that once again those smarmy so-and-sos across the water from you have usurped a fact and put a spin on it so that the truth isn't recognizable. . . . One more thing: Sadly, the majority of Argentines I've known are good, decent, loving and sweet people. The elephant in the room is, why don't they summon the courage to unseat a dictator? And for that matter, why doesn't the U.S.A. government and the world Press see that . . . the king is naked (that CFK is evil?)

“””And for that matter, why doesn't the U.S.A. government and the world Press see that . . . the king is naked (that CFK is evil?)“””

    Honestly?

    ..most dont care.

I come to this site almost daily and it never fails to amaze me at teh news covered here because it is, almost always, not recorded on any of the other regular news sites i visit ((CMM, BBC, XINHUA, Moscow TImes, RT, AJE) .... “all the fuss” you see some of the CFK supporters making on here - suggesting the perifdious British and their Anglo allies are out to get Argentina : well, honestly, it just doesnt exist outside of this website 99% of the news here just doesnt make the news around the world.

Not even the British newspaper get much interested in anything CFK says or does, Argentina isnt very newsworthy.

Sure, if she threatens the Falkland Islanders we'll bark back, but that is about it.

“News” that a LATAM country has rampant inflation and its government is lying to its citizens on how bad the economy is?

Who in Britain cares? well... about 20-30 people who post here - the rest simply couldn't give a toss.

This is, in fact, one reason why CFK & her ministers get away with so much bullshit: it just isnt worth anybody's time to point out the bullshit: she makes it for home-consumption and everybody outside of Argentina knows that.

What do most Brits know about LATAM? Brazil is the powerhousem the north west is corrupt drug lords, Chile is a great place and gives us all our winter fruit and Argentina is now, and always will be, led by corrupt self-serving Peronists..or military Juntas...often the two being indistinguishable....oh, and they will never get the Falklands thanks to 1982.

    thats about it

What does the Foreign Office expect? That everything in the South Atlantic proceed as normal. Only unrelenting pressure of this type, which touches the pockets of the islanders, will bring the British Government to the table to discuss sovereignty. The islanders rejected Guido di Tella's seduction in the 1990s. Now there're up against a different kettle of fish.

Dear 37 ANDY65 . . . In Argentina when somebody does something so outrageous that nobody in his right mind would (eyes rolling heavenward) believe it possible, the common saying oft heard is, “Only in Argentina!” (Said with sly pride!) Yes, dear heart, poor Devolverislas has clearly swallowed the Wicked Witch of the North's shrilling cry . . . to divert attention from the billions of U.S. Dollars she's carried off from Argentine citizens' coffers and stashed or invested abroad.

I'd rather be slightly poorer and cut off from South America than be Argentine. You do realise that most of the Falklands regard Argentinas efforts as irritations to be worked around, nothing more.

Since NK, and subsequently CFK, implemented the “unrelenting pressure” the GDP of the Islands has gone up 47%. It appears that we are “touching the pockets” of the Islanders in a most benign way!!!!!!!
