Italy’s ‘Pepe’ Grillo protest syndrome emerged in British local elections. The anti-European Union UK Independence Party made sweeping gains in these elections, siphoning support from British Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservatives in a vote that exposed a threat to his re-election chances in 2015. It's not a protest vote!!!!!

The 3 old parties have had their day. They have been shown up that they are tired and corrupt and that they just are incapable of listening to the people that vote for them.

It's time for a clean sweep, get some new blood into parliment and if that means that the conservative party gets consigned to political history, so be it!!!

Nigel Farage is a f**king stud!! striaght talking, knows what he is talking about AND makes a lot of sense ( yeah, I know... a politician that makes sense!! ) AND not afraid to tell the Commies in Brussels where it's at!!!

Increasing spending on the armed forces, getting rid of wind farms no tax on the minimum wage..... who wouldn't want that?

This is common sense talking, people..... Camer-moron and his little b*tch Nick Clegg would do well to take a leaf out of UKip's book and start LISTENING to what the people want.

@1 I can't go along with you completely. Farage has yet to prove himself in the “Mother of Parliaments” and in government. But it IS hard to see how he could be worse than the current crop. Who don't listen. If Cameron et al had listened the UK could be well on its way to being out of the totalitarian EU. The problem is that the people DO tend to look at the “established” parties. But surely anybody could have seen that there was no hope for Britain with nancy-boy Clegg. And no hope with the “spend, spend, spend” airhead Milliband. Part of the problem is letting liars and farts such as Maude, Laws, Clarke, Warsi, Grieve, Alexander, Cable, Davey into government. Not one of them has any ability.

    @3

You sound like the prospective employer who looks at a young man or woman of limited experience but is fully qualified and has bags of enthusiasm who just needs a little more exposure to the real world AND SAYS: but you don't have the necessary experience for this company!

One thing you all too often get from extensive experience per se is extensive cock-ups from people who never learn from their own mistakes.

I prefer to let them get the experience whilst under 'loose' control so they don't crash the thing first time out.

It ALWAYS worked for me and I got immense loyalty to the company for letting them prove themselves when no-one else would.

UKip is a game changer, they won't be the party who wins outright but they could be the party who 'crowns the King'.

Protest vote? really? that thought will be the downfall for both conservative and labour............The British people have had enough of not being listened to on the issue of Immigration not other reason than that, British identity, british quality of life, british future is being sold cheaply to Europe/islam and its time to put that right!

And they are still doing it now!!!

They have not listened to the people who voted for them. They are not listening to them now and I don't think that they will ever listen to them either..... It's time that party was voted out office....for keeps.

UKIP has been gaining support slowly but surely . Hence Cameron's promise to hold a referendum , on staying in the EU , after the 2015 election . He was assuming that he would win ! The real point is that all parties have consistently lied to the British people , Tories and Labour . The leaders knew that the EU would , eventually , become a United States of Europe . But they did not tell the public , it was always just a economic union . But as new treaties were signed it became apparent to the most dim witted Briton that the E U would run their country . Now , that they know , they are saying BASTA ! Let us get out while we can .

@4 Really? And precisely what is your experience of politics and government in the UK? I understand what you're saying, but now we have the example of the LibDems. A “party” that should never have been allowed into government with any voice. If you have suitable access to UK sources, how many times has Clegg said “I'd like to discuss that with the Prime Minister.” compared to the number of times he's said “We're not doing that!” UKIP has to be tested. It has to demonstrate that its commitment to the interests of the people of the UK is greater than its commitment to its own self-interest.

Who, exactly, is going to provide UKIP with your “loose” control? That's why MP recall must become part of UK politics. If 20% of the constituents that voted for an MP wanted him/her to be recalled to explain themselves, then the MP should lose their salary, expenses and vote until the constituents say that he/she can go back to Parliament.
@7 Quite right. There must be an EU in/out referendum before the next election. Not interested in Cameron's “Vote me in and we'll have a referendum.” assertion. There must be a vote next year. If Cameron has any sense, he will understand that a 2014 referendum that he acts on, will give a better chance of re-election than a maybe referendum in 2017.
@8 Viceroyalty of the River Plate renamed United Provinces of River Plate - still crap.
United Provinces of River Plate renamed United Provinces of South America - still crap. And the Republic of Buenos Aires - still crap.
Then the Argentine Republic. But then the Argentine Confederation and the Argentine Federation - still crap. Anyone remember Nation of Argentina? And then back to to Argentine Republic - still crap.
That's EIGHT name changes. For ONE pointless territory. Did you have a point?

12 Think . That was the general attitude until a few months ago . Since then support has grown steadily reaching a high point in the latest Council elections . The main point is that the general public is fed up with the EU . Constant intervention in internal affairs of the UK . Petty , stupid regulations thought up by idiots who have nothing to do ! The British have just discovered that , thanks to EU rules , they will probably face electricity shortages in ten years ! And so we go on !

But as 03 and other rightly state,

It has yet to prove them selves,
I believe he will get us out of the over bloated corrupted European union.

    And that’s good for Britain,
But the chances of UKIP getting into power in 2015 is probably very small,
But they can and will have enough power to influence things,
If and only if they prove themselves between now and then,
And let’s hope they don’t just wane and fall by the wayside.
    Just a opinion..

    To all the argie trolls

You don't get it do you about UKip?

Most of us just want to get rid of the present disastrous three party state and replace it with people who have OUR best interests at heart instead of the EUs.

I don't believe that UKip can be considered in the same light as the BNP.

But frankly, I for one don't give a fcuk what you lot: 'Think', the Biggest Liar On MP: Stevie, the communist who complains about fascism and best of all the dumb fcuk Dunny-Burger (particularly the illiterate version we have now).

How can you lot even criticise the UK when you have the disaster of disasters in TMBOA, The Company Of Thieves government, FatMax, La Camping-it-up and brain dead thugs like Gorgeous Toni the woman 'veteran of the Malvinas', 'fighting for democracy'? You would not recognise ‘democracy’ if it kicked you in the sultanas you call balls.

    I'm not complaining about UKIP.
In fact, I love the fact that they will gain more and more power.
That will make the Scots more Scottish and less British. Lovely!
That will also make the EU more of a mess than it is today. Lovely!
That will finally show the world the true face of the Brits. Lovely!

    All in all, lovely!

    Can I sympathy vote?

20 Stevie . Yes you can sympathy vote ! UKIP have moved away from the old
BNP , who found it difficult to obtain votes because of their extreme positions . They now concentrate on EU and the damage it is doing to the UK . They have managed to find a position which happens to appeal to middle class Britons .Who, by the way , are not extremists . You will remember that the Communist Party in the UK never got more than five percent of the vote . Compared to some of our dear neighbours where they obtained more than thirty percent .
The real point is that they have managed to concentrate the mind of the three main parties . They now have to recognise that membership of the EU is not popular in the country .

Where as in UK, there's a new kid on the block, Nigel Farage who has balls of solid rock, who cares if the UKip's sums don't add up and their policies are not much more than wishful thinking, they've managed to get get the 3 main parties in this country scared, scared right down to their silver spoon fed, priviledged upbringings.

To be or not to be into a financial collapse? That is the question!

UK needs a liberal leader able to introduce reforms in the political and economic system.

1- UK needs to turn into a modern democratic republic and exercise the separation of powers and put an end of the current medieval political system.
Also needs to stop the destructive policy of the “support colonies” that cause so many political tensions and makes UK to lose business opportunity around the world.

2- UK has to embrace more free market ideas, open more its market and stop destructive protectionism especially on UK banks.
3- UK must show to the world its willing to pay its huge debt.
So more cuts in spending are needed like in the MoD, social benefits, pensions, health care, education, etc.

And of course UK must rise taxes, especially for the middle class sector because as everybody knows that the rich are hard to tax because they can move their wealth to another nation and that would be no good for the economy and you cannot tax more the poor.

4- UK needs to carryout and aggressive privatisation scheme to get rid of UK govt public corporations that only make loses like Royal Mail, BBC corporation, Transport for London (TFL) all bastions of corruption and the waste of taxpayer money, also should privatise: Education and the whole health care system. That will provide new business and will bring more jobs in into the economy in the private sector.

5- UK must fully integrate with the EU and also adopt its currency the Euro, a little nation like UK cannot survive in a globalised world made of trade blocks.

6- UK needs to open its borders to immigration that are willing to work for less salary. That way UK’s economy will be more competitive and will attract foreign investment.

7- Judiciary security, any controversy with UK govt. should be resolved under the jurisdiction of the investor and not under UK jurisdiction or law.

As the English John Ray once said “No pain no gain”...

    The real truth is==
    You are frightened of change,
    labour fxck it up,
And the conservatives and its puppy just compounded the problem,
So in true style democracy, 25 % of the brits voted UKIP
To try something different, something new, to the tune that the other 3 was not listening,

If that makes 25 % of brits fruit cakes then so be it,
Its better to be a free fruit cake,
Than a dictatorship, or staying with a party that no longer listens to the people,

Yes we are capable of standing alone,
