I love these figures that are bandied about: I think they must pluck them out of the air.

The figures from my household budget spreadsheet for May 2012 – April 2013 show the following:

    January 2013

Car tax = +11.2%, bike tax = +6.1%, council tax = +9.2% All paid to the Intendencia.

Electricity went up FOUR times in the 12 months.
UTE makes BMC and Longbridge look like a well run a business. The directors ALL need removing from office, especially the person responsible for safeguarding future electricity supplies because he isn’t.

    Water only a minor increase.

Gasoline supplies No increase BUT given the OPEC fall in price to under $100 barrel it should have gone DOWN. Some hopes.

I can afford these rises but I do feel for the local people with young families and / or older dependents to provide for having to work in this economy.

Well Chris, if it doesn't suit you and your demands, you could always pack your stuff and move back to the Wonder of a country you left to start with.

Or you could also find a third alternative to move to and complain about...

So take your post and shove it up your cuelo.

There is a slight possibility that my response was a bit rougher than your criticism.

But you should really try and make your comments a bit more constructive when talking about the nation you yourself chose to live in.

Referring to our President as a “commie” shows nothing but lack of respect and you DO indeed suggest that our government is fixing the numbers on inflation with your post.

“you DO indeed suggest that our government is fixing the numbers on inflation with your post.”

    Abject nonsense.

If the government were fixing the figures, a la INDEC, they would not be as high as they clearly are. NO. I am NOT accusing them as you claim: they are clearly BAFFLED by what is happening with inflation and have NO COMPREHENSION on what to do about it.

Having TWO 'finance teams' fighting each other which Pepe himself admitted and also stated he could do NOTHING about it speaks volumes in support of my JUDGEMENT.

NOTE the word JUDGEMENT. I think very carefully before I post and what IS Pepe other than a 'commie'; please enlighten me if I have gotton that wrong.

Do not confuse PASSION with neglect. What is more constructive other than telling the truth AS IT IS and not wrapped up with platitudes which get no-one anywhere?

If some of the government spoke out a little more forcefully in support of Pepe and helped him rid one of the ‘teams’ and focussed all the other ‘passengers’ in the government companies such as UTE, ANCAP, OSE (to a lesser extent) or perhaps put them all under the direct control of the ANTEL Board who DO CONSISTENTLY get the operations AND customer service right in my experience then I am convinced service levels would increase combined with a reduction in costs for EVERYONE not just me.

Any more ‘helpful’ comments or are we done now?

    Chris
    What is a “commie”?
And if it means communist, how is Pepe a “commie”?
Is he nationalising any private enterprises?
Is he trying to disintegrate the state?
Is he working against free trade?

You spit hatred and call it truth, and in your rage you confuse ot with judgement.

Maybe you have solutions, I'm not going to dispute that.
You are after all a well educated man.
But sadly you only come across as a very upset old man that for some strange reason can't enjoy the good things in life, but needs to step on others in order to feel elevated.

As long a you spit hatred instead of constructive criticism, we'll never be done, you and I, I am sorry to say...

The LAN fiasco, from withholding the routes for sale with the planes (the very reason they were originally purchased) so that he could ‘get more money’ for it when the planes were grossly overestimated on their worth by his best mate (forgotton his name), yet another commie.

THEN it transpires that the argie millionaire who owns Burquebus (another big mate) had a little scam going on with the ‘successful’ bidder. Oh, oh! Can we see a pattern developing here?

Yes, we can! He wasn’t the bidder at all, he did not represent the company he said he did and hadn’t got the money anyway, BUT THE ARGIE CAME TO THE RESCUE.

You know, I think we could get a good comedy out og this, don’t you? APART from the citizens of Uruguay will have TO PAY for this travesty? NOT YOU THOUGH! You don’t live here or pay taxes here, do you?

And I love your deflection technique: “But sadly you only come across as a very upset old man that for some strange reason can't enjoy the good things in life, but needs to step on others in order to feel elevated. As long a you spit hatred instead of constructive criticism, we'll never be done, you and I, I am sorry to say...”

Boy, have you got all this wrong in your desperate attempt to defend commies. Can you really not see what the problems are:

    Incompetence by Pepes mate;
    Corruption by the argie;
Corruption (in thought) by Pepe but failed miserably.

That is all I am posting on this because you will never see it from a reasoned standpoint.

What is your opinion on ALAS-U, the new cooperative born of PLUNA?

    Uruguay is on wings again.

Are you as happy as me?

I was not happy that Uruguay HAD a flag carrier owned by the government in the first place. Why does a country of 3M NEED a carrier if only to bolster the fragile personas of the 'government'?

How can a 'normal' person afford the air fares, they cannot.

I have no idea what the USD 30M is for other than to raise the hopes of the co-operative members. What planes are they going to use, I thought the PLUNA ones had been returned.

ALAS-U will only be a good thing if NO government mony is at risk, otherwise it is just another millstone round the necks of the taxpayers.

They are going to use PLUNA planes indeed.

    Good times :)

The last fiasco for 900 employees (I think that's correct) cost the taxpayers US$ 388,888 for EACH of them.

Allowing US$ 25,000 per year to live on that would see them through for 15 years (ignoring inflation). Don't you think that is a disgraceful cost for a small country just to have a flag carrier for the likes of the government and people like me to use?

How does that sit with your ultra-leftist feelings? Ashamed?
