Disclaimer & comment rulesI lived throught the Chilean UP, with long lines outside of supermarkets wit few goods inside. Low prices, but limited supplies purchased with coupons. Argentina will eventually face the same if they keep their “voluntary” price controls in effect.

The amount of reserves that was in Alaska was nothing compared to what Venezuela has. Alyeska brought so much money to Alaska that taxes were gone, in fact the state paid money to each resident. My sister and family lived there for 10 years and each year were paid a refund from the states coffers. Venezuelan people need to demand a better management team than the Driver and his bird.

Instead of compromising a bit in the 1990s on the currency board, on mass lay-offs, on outrageous utility inflation, etc, they were intransigent. Well, that's what you get for refusing to negotiate, the other side (Argentina's political class), became just as intransigent... AGAINST them. Too late now.
