May 22nd, 2013 - 04:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0What you say has merit but hides the real problem which is this government has no idea what is causing inflation.
They cannot see that the dead hand of the government employees growing massively in numbers which they have since Pepe became President is really a two edged sword. Not only does it increase fiscal drag immensely it precludes a large portion of the people from productive employment in the private sector.
ALL governments get their money from taxpayers who earn it in the real world. NO government employee makes money and the ‘taxes’ they pay are just paid out of the same pot. They need to be halved in numbers and retrained for proper jobs in industry and commerce; then we will see inflation fall and Uruguay grow exponentially.
BUT, and there is always the buts, the unions will no broach it and the government will lose its core voters, just like new labour before the cnut Brown took over as PM.
Astori should recall the words of Albert Einstein “Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results”. That might be a clue as to why they have failed to control inflation.
