Mercosur must negotiate any possible incorporation to the Alliance of the Pacific “as a block” since it is important that its member countries remain ‘united’ and respect the current charter, said the Mercosur High Representative, Ambassador Ivan Ramalho from Brazil. Read full article

Paraguay is on the way out and now interest from Uruguay, seems Mercosur is nearing stage III and in need of life support. Venezuela really did have a major impact since becoming a member. One year old and 50% of latam trade. Seems PA tops Mercosur's big trade deals with PLA, Syria and Israel. I wonder how the trade is going with Syria?

Talk about being between a rock and a hard place! If Uruguay's neighbors say, “sit and do nothing”, they had better or they'll be strangled it seems.

    Captain,
Sort of why these trade blocks rarely work. It takes only one
PIG to make it eventually collapse.

Seems leaving Mercosur for the Pacific Alliance and becoming associate members of Mercosur would be the best path.

After all, Colombia, Peru and Chile are Mercosur Associate Members.

So this path is compatible with both groups.

Perhaps Mercosur gains Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador and PA gains Uruguay and Paraguay and Central America.

If someone wants to tally those two groups up by GDP, population and trade it would be interesting to compare now and into the future.

P.A. won't last long, because it's a matter of time one of the nations will bitch about trade deficits, since one of the 4 nations are major manufacturing producers (of mainly US corporations that love slavelandia..aka mexico).
Peru, is commodities, zero manufacturing base, Chile is the same, so is Colombia (if you don't count the drugs export). The US has already trade agreements with those nations (only works for the corporations not for the people, mainly the farmers) and so does Canada.

P.A. wants to counter by doing business with Asia? Sure, but their connections with Asia is small, compare to Brazil that does business with major companies with most asian markets..even without Mercosul/Mercosur.

Mercosur and Pacific Alliance are two different visions, Mercosur´s vision is to become the raw materials supplier of Asia and the world, Pacific Alliance vision is to compete and to leverage their people´s ingenuity to compete with the rest of the world.
Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and other Mercosur members have become China satellites and colonies, providing the asian country with raw materials such as oil and crops such as Soybeans.
The Pacific Alliance wants to compete with Asia, not to be the suppliers, already Mexico has beaten China in production of many appliances, made by Mexican companies like Mabe, Mexico exports refrigerators, televisions, cellulars, electronic components, and is exporting cars and many other high-value products to China and other Asian countries. Chile´s developing the Chilecon valley, Peru´s expanding their trade, Colombia´s liberalizing their economy, Costa Rica and Central America compete with Asia in the textile industry.

Let's see if I've got this right. The Pacific Alliance “supports the private sector, open markets, foreign investment and less government involvement in the economies.” That would seem to suggest that it doesn't agree with external interference in internal domestic affairs. No doubt Paraguay has already checked on this. Mercosur, on the other hand, seems to be the exact opposite, believing corporatist structures, protectionism, theft and “government” control of everything. These days I'm none too sure about Uruguay. I don't see much of a problem for the Pacific Alliance in taking Uruguay in. After all, “Pepe” is used to doing as he's told, it'll just be someone else telling him more politely. The problem that I see is that Uruguay would be “the weakest link”. Stuck out on the edge of the continent, blocked from any direct connection with its Alliance partners, possibly being used as an “infiltrator” by argieland. No, I think Uruguay will have to stay where it is. Bed made.

You are out of your mind. Mexico is not even a colony of the USA, it's a territory without congressional representation.

As I always say to my socialist buddies when we agree to disagree on socialist ideology .......time will tell!!!

It will be interesting to see which group will prosper in the next few years..... the one with it´s open free trade policies or the one with closed protectionist
markets.......my money is on Pacific Alliance!!!

Fido dildo........stop shitting in your hand and smearing your face. Your posts are starting to stink!. PA is barely a year old and light years ahead of Mercosur, which is in need of life support. Mercosur's lack of any significant trade agreements in the world displays just how focused on trade Mercosur really is.
Brazil is the big daddy in the Mercosur group and has been the last, yet final protectionist country in SA to start feeling SA slowdown. Now that Mercosur countries are economic colonial outpost's for China's unending hunger for natural resources, industrial output will continue to slide. China is not going to give up there base as an industrial exporting nation to SA. But even as China's economy continues it's slide because of haphazard policies, the demand for Mercosur's natural resources will be felt.
Yes the future of PA and what it has accomplished in one year's time appears promising. what a novel concept.......focus on trade and not politics.

    Fiddling dildo....you say:

”P.A. won't last long, because it's a matter of time one of the nations will bitch about trade deficits, since one of the 4 nations are major manufacturing producers (of mainly US corporations that love slavelandia..aka mexico).”

    I say:

You confuse Mercosur and China your thoughtless statement, Mercosur is nearing the need for life support, Dilma assured that with her actions of the past year.

    Read the text,,

”I personally think this is the case and that we must remain united”, said Ramalho.

You see, it's nothing but an opinion and not at all a restriction as MP tries to make it.

Personally, I don't care if the union is called Mercosur or Alianza del Pacifico. All that Counts for me is that an agreement is made.

And I assure you lot that I'm not lobbying, it's merely an opinion, even though you lot fail to see the difference between those two.

'you lot' is such an English term, bordering on slang. I have never heard anyone in Argentine use that term. I have seen it used often by TTT and Stevie here but it seems so out of place. I can only assume they are fans of Eastenders or some such programme rich in slang.

One would think that Brazil is concerned about being left with only Argentina and Venezuela dragging them back.

As someone who LIVES in Uruguay and PAYS taxes to Uruguay unlike someone not a million miles away from this post, we need to keep all our options open but I must confess to liking a TRADE association unlike MS which is a BITCHING about everybody else association.

Uruguay may actually flourish in PA, that would be nice.

No need to hold hands with anybody, just trade. Great!

Only reason you pay taxes in Uruguay is because it's cheaper than paying them in the UK, you Little tax evader...
Spent your daily cash yet? Still no vote?

@13 Yep, read the text “Only the block as a whole can make a deal as it is set out in the Mercosur rules, because we are a customs’ union.“ See, Uruguay, you can't do anything because ”argrazuela“ won't let you. It's against ”the rules“. And who made ”the rules“? Since Uruguay is a pygmy, we can safely assume that it didn't. Clearly, last year, the opportunity arrived for Paraguay to be ”punished“ for continuing to block Venezuela. Naturally, Paraguay should remove itself from mercosur and turn to the Pacific Alliance. Leaving little Uruguay to be ruled by mercosur. An outstanding question must be will Brazil or argieland take control? Or will they tear little Uruguay in half? My betting is that argieland will rush in first. I can just imagine reactionary ”Uruguayan“ troops creating a ”border incident“. Thereby ”forcing“ argieland to send its troops across the border as a ”gesture of friendship“ to quell the insurrection. Naturally, the ”helpless“ Uruguayan government will welcome this assistance and suggest that argie troops be used to ”patrol“ in various areas in case other Uruguayan troops are also ”reactionary“. The only real question is whether Brazil will accept a compromise or decide that its ”territorial integrity” is more important than that of argieland. Will it be handbags at twenty paces?
@16 A possible question. Do you pay taxes anywhere? A tax evader? A job evader? Or just not old enough?

Stephen, Guzz....whatever you prefer at the moment, what makes you think he is avoiding taxes in the UK?....is he an expatriate and denounced his British citizenship? I believe he is retired and getting the most bang for his buck, or pound in his case.

    Hit a nerve I see?

Not only do I pay tax in Uruguay I have to pay tax in the UK as well. Just like the Americans the 'Brits' have to pay tax on all their world wide income.

Bit different for you though I suspect.

So as I pay tax in Uruguay and you DO NOT, your point is what, I am still waiting?

Brazil is only China's lapdog, a mere supplier of raw materials, a deindustrialized country that is afraid to compete in a global scale, on the contrary Mexico has been competing with the Chinese mighty for more than a decade and recently seems is going to get back all of the industries China stole since 2000. Brazil is stagnated, growing below 3% pffff ridiculous for a so called “BRIC” with inflation out of control, currency devaluating and interest rates going higher... I wonder what will be of a country with this profile after the carnival of 4 years that is starting with the confederations cup this year? Guess... Lets imagine Brazil in 2017 after the party ;) Brazil is only the big bully of a mediocre and failed protectionist ideological block, but as I said before, the LAPDOG of CHINA.
