On Friday afternoon there was a holiday atmosphere in Gibraltar as most people took to the streets celebrate the Gibraltar Football Association's success in gaining admission to UEFA.
Despite being one of the oldest football associations in the world, having been founded in 1895, the GFA had been denied membership of the European organisation due to opposition by Spain.
It has taken more than two decades, three court rulings in its favour and a huge lobbying campaign but in the end the GFA prevailed and is now the 54th member of UEFA.
All GFA registered junior and senior players and officials assembled at the Piazza and at 5pm, and paraded, dressed in their kits, down Main Street ending at Casemates Square were a large stage was erected.
There were addresses by the Mayor, the President of the GFA, and the Chief Minister. Finally The GFA team took to the stage to great cheering by the crowd.
