Buenos Aires province health authorities confirmed on Monday that seven people have died in the last month from the influenza A virus and 40 people have been reported infected by the H1N1 strain. However the authorities do not consider it an epidemic behaviour similar to that of 2009. Read full article

I guess it is cheaper to let people die.

How did you guess the various types of FLU would come to Argentina this time of year?
I mean sheesh, it's not like you could have guessed it's turning into WINTER right about now and the flu has a knack of liking that time of year. duh.
@4 .... If it was a case of the season change then the government could of prevented these death by giving vaccines before the winter sets in !!
Jun 11th, 2013 - 03:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0Oh yeah? And in which country are flu vaccines FREELY given?

@6 Tobias
Jun 11th, 2013 - 05:48 am - Link - Report abuse 0In the UK the vaccine is given freely to ALL elderly people, children, families with young children, health workers, the police, the fire service, the Armed Forces, people with suppressed immune systems, and other vulnerable people.
If a person doesn't fall within these categories they can buy a vaccine at a local pharmacy, for about US$ 10, and have it injected on site at NO extra cost. In fact many large businesses in the UK pay for all of their workers to get vaccinated, as it reduces sick days, and the knock on effect on productivity and profits, so it's money well spent.
Every year before flu season the Health Department runs a campaign encouraging people to get vaccinated.
Now even so, there will always be people who die of influenza, not matter what.
The question is: What is the Argentine governments Health Department doing about the influenza in Argentina?
Is it running its own health and awareness campaign? Is it giving free vaccines to the most vulnerable in society?
Can you answer these simple questions without resorting to form and being racist and insulting?

Jun 11th, 2013 - 11:54 am - Link - Report abuse 0Plus to control this they would have already had to vaccinate all the health workers and they haven't.

I can explain. What do the UK public health care a whit to Argentina. Here you want a flu shot .... good best not go into details. If free, yell communism! If it was not free aullarías human rights violators. So are you Anglos, they say one thing to say moments later date after another. Bullet trains are not economical with such a large land mass that is why we have so many airports and LOTS AND LOTS OF private jets.

Therefore, NO Spanish.
Merco Press makes money from their advertisers. They, in turn, monitor the activity, popularity, and traffic on the site.

The valuable MP is as a resource, the more they can charge to advertise here.
Do you see the connection????

Jun 13th, 2013 - 03:55 pm - Link - Report abuse 0No one is making fun of this, only the Argentine poster who is extremely deluded. In fact, if anything they are concerned about the lack of vaccine available for the Argentine people. This hasn't even reached the epidemic phase yet, let alone looking like it would be a pandemic.
The last 'real' (as in not hyped up by the media and an actual world wide problem) pandemic of influenza was in 1918. It killed over 20,000,000 people.
However, the Argentine medical services are in disarray, so this has a potential to become an epidemic in Argentina. The government needs to spend money on buying, distributing and giving the vaccine immediately, and should do so every year.
It is expensive in the initial outlay, but it saves lives, and money as the healthcare services are not inundated with tens of thousands of infected people.
The real problem though is that the Argentine government and its systems are so corrupt, that everyone wants their slice of the 'pie' which puts costs through the roof, as each layer of government skims off their portion of the money.
The only people who really suffer though are the most vulnerable in society.
