France threatened to block the start of free trade talks between the European Union and the United States if movies and digital media are not kept out the negotiations. Two days before EU countries are supposed to give the go-ahead for negotiations France said it would veto the talks unless the sector - that it sees as crucial to its cultural identity and under threat from Hollywood - is excluded. Jun 13th, 2013 - 01:41 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Let's be realistic. Are French movies or digital media essential to anyone? Only, possibly, to the communities of arty-farties. If France, one country, thinks it can block EU/US talks, why can't a dozen EU countries block negotiations with neo-nazi mercosur? The United States is about 1000% more trustworthy than totalitarian mercosur.

The US is a protectionist, the EU fascist government in Brussels represent (without direct permission) a protectionist region. Those are facts. A free trade agreement between those two won't work at all, specially not for the small business people that continue to struggle.
Surely the whole point of FREE TRADE,

This is the French we are talking about right? The French who were first to tell anyone and everyone who would listen that removing Saddam Hussain from power was the absolutely the wrong thing to do, and then was first to tender quotes for re-construction projects.
The same French who deployed their troops to Afghanistan as peace keepers and not in a war fighting role
The same French who blocked relief payout to British farmers after the foot-and-mouth out break but then wanted to compensate their farmers for the suffering they endured during the Swine-flu.
The same French who went to war in Mali but couldn't do it all by themselves and had to ask the British for help...
Are those the French you are talking about?
Surely not........................... you do surprise me.............
Sounds like France is afraid of competition from a superior product.
