Wow almost as good as Argentinas figures, with one slight exception, Uruguays are more reliable and more likely to be true!

“Uruguay’s economy expands 3.7% in the first quarter”
“Uruguay’s economy expanded 1.2% in the first quarter of the year compared to the last quarter of 2012, which had a poor performance of 0.1%”

So, in summary: bad year last year (first quarter is the height of the season and the season was well down) but we did better this year.

Unsurprising that telecoms was strong, the people in charge know what they are doing compared with those running UTE who seem fixated on the complete waste of money that is windmills.

“In the item transport ‘remains as a big setback the lesser activity from air transport as a direct consequence of closing down Uruguay’s flag carrier Pluna”, said the central bank report.”

This is what you get from meddling by the various governments in the airline ‘industry’ that does not exist in Uruguay. Why did Uruguay EVER need a flag carrier with less than 3M people, the vast majority of who would never be able to afford a ticket? Government VANITY is the answer, and they are supposed to be commies / socialists!

At least the Uruguayans tell the TRUTH...and they do seem to try delivering good government! Politics wise, South America is a complete Mad House...being 'on the take' is the way they have always operated! But, Uruguay is still a pretty good place to live! Take me to Costa del Este!!!

You are quite right 5 Chris(#) - Happens on a daily basis with me...poor brain is so crammed with stuff I don't really need to know! By the way, I have been to Colonia and have made up my mind that I'd love to live there or in Punta del Este) Keep in touch please! (I also have Argentinean friends who'd like to run away to the place!)

My wife and I came over for a month in 2010 to spy out the land so to say. Full of opinions, and it turns out nonsense off the net, about the main places in Uruguay.

We REALLY thought we wanted to be in PdE until we saw the place and how many people were there. The number of new apartment buildings going up and the prices of everything when you compared them with other 'cities' just along the coast, so we didn't!

But we really love where we settled and the country and the people in general. If I may, can I suggest you have a wider look around before deciding?

My next door neighbours are a great family from Argentina who come over for the summer as a family including the 91 year old mother of the present owner. As I thought, nothing at all like the idiot argies who post on here.

    Enjoy yourself, we do.
