Suspended Paraguay will not return to Mercosur trampling on the institutions of the country or from the group, warned president-elect Horacio Cartes during an event at the Paraguay-US Chamber of Commerce. He emphasized that if there is no respect or abidance by the rule of the law, “we will remain as we are”. Read full article

Jun 24th, 2013 - 05:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0If Paraguay is lucky, Mercosur will choose Venezuela and give Paraguay a chance to flourish in much freer market like the Pacific Alliance where it can negotiate its own free trade agreement with the EU and others.
Good on Paraguay, show the rest of Mercosur up for the lying cheating countries that they are.
Jun 24th, 2013 - 05:59 am - Link - Report abuse 0They broke their own rules to allow Venezuela in, and now they're trying to get Bolivia in in the same way.
Paraguay is really better off without belonging to a group that won't follow it's own rules, doesn't play fair with each other, and is basically an attempt at making a new USSR.
And look what happened to the USSR!
A matter of time before Mercosur collapses.

Jun 24th, 2013 - 12:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0However, Montevideo will soon be known for housing the scum of SA 'leadership' and that's saying something. Who is next the 'cow pat' from Bolivia and the 'drugs are not illegal' twat from Ecuador. If we are really 'lucky' we will see CUBA in the den of thieves and shysters.
I do hope when Vasquez takes over he chucks Mercosur out of the country because Uruguay must be the laughing stock of the world, to those who know anything about Mercosur that is.
Good on you, Paraguay. BUT I suggest that this shows the worth of attending the July summit and there stating that Paraguay has no wish to be a member of an illegitimate organisation. And then walking out. Where has THIS bit of news been reported except by MercoPress. But if Paraguay stands up and says it in front of the international press, it will have a much greater effect. It will be a public condemnation of mercosur.
Jun 24th, 2013 - 01:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Conqueror... that would be epic! But too much movie-alike. It's already enough with the current seriousness and decency of Paraguay at the moment. Doesn't let the Mercosur look better anyway...

Jun 24th, 2013 - 04:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@7 You haven't said where else it has been reported. It has to be demonstrated to the world that mercosur is illegitimate. Then perhaps we can force the EU to pull out of talks. Permanently. Avoid Europe, especially the UK, having argie poisons imposed.
