“no Socialist or ‘revolutionary’ can be corrupt” LOL Did CFK not get the memo?

Of course, what Maduro means is the only the people at the top can steal, everyone else is not allowed to. Because there are not enough hosts for all the parasites.

Maduro is a deluded fool. And apparently a Nazi by the look of his salute.

How long will a leader last when he is too frightened to let go of is predecessor's coattails?

@6: I think you mean the USSR. Nazi Germany was founded on hijacked democracy and was referred to as the Fatherland, the USSR is the motherland founded on a revolution.
Besides that point, why do these countries keep going on about the revolution all the time? None of them have had any major revolts for years, anyone whóuld get suspicious and, you know, suggest that it's a 1984 tactic of uniting the people through a common threat. Not me, though, no no no...

As to a “rule” for the use of fatherland vs motherland, I think the choice would depend upon the connotation sought by the author in a particular context. Fatherland suggests government and order. Motherland connotes birth and nurturing.

I would suggest Maduro is using the term 'Motherland' when in context to what he is saying he means the 'Fatherland'.

You would think he would use an open topped bus!

Two stupid comments to go with the plethora of stupid comment by Presidents of SA countries.

“Patria” is generally translated these days as motherland due to the fascist overtones of using fatherland. However, in Spanish it is one and the same.

I wouldn't want to be 'guarded' by the old prats standing on the security pads because they would be of no use when it runs out of petrol and they had to push it.

I wonder where the little bird has to sit, hope the bus driver doesn't sit on it.

    LOLs

    10 Tobers:

Perhaps one of those Soviet Zil monstrosities would be more appropriate. Or maybe one of Idi Amin's old Mercedes 600's.
