UK Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening has confirmed that due to recent actions by the Argentine government she is no longer confident that further investments in Argentina would be consistent with the objectives she laid out in February this year, in an answer to a House of Commons Written Parliamentary Question. Jul 13th, 2013 - 03:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Nice to see that they were influenced in some way by a petition.
Get ready for Trolls condemning the move as 'undemocratic', 'unfair', or 'an aggression', etc.
Other Trolls, Toby and Dany (Sussie) will state they hate us, we don't need them
CFK take note, this is democracy in action!!!!!!
Jul 13th, 2013 - 03:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Very different from your ”democritisization(?) of the Judiciary”!!!!!!!!!
Now for the European Union financial support for Argentina - let's blow it away!
Jul 13th, 2013 - 03:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes because all that works so well to bring countries in line.
Jul 13th, 2013 - 03:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0North Korea... 60 plus years and counting
Cuba... 55 years and counting for the USA to crush them with sanctions. lol
Iran ... 35 years and counting.
Those sanctions have such a speedy, results-oriented record!
The loans will just end up in the pockets of the corrupt, or be used to bribe those without the pride of a steady occupation into believing every stupid word that comes out of that cow's mouth.
Jul 13th, 2013 - 03:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I would suggest that all loans to Argentina be given directly to the Qom people to distribute as they see fit!!!!!!!!
Jul 13th, 2013 - 03:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@5
Jul 13th, 2013 - 03:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0And what fabulous places to live they all are too. I can see why you're so eager to join them.
@5: so you confirm Argentina should indeed be classed among these criminal states? :D
Jul 13th, 2013 - 03:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I know where I am posting, this is a forum replete with avid Argentina animus.
Jul 13th, 2013 - 03:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As for their standard of living, that a moot point, and if anything further shows the impotence of such measures in bringing the countries in question to become subservient, unindependent colonies of the EU, UK, or USA with puppet governments.
Yet one more reason for the people of Argentina to get rid of that wicked witch in the Casa Rosada and her fat ugly ogre of a son.
Jul 13th, 2013 - 03:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0She gets rich whilst the people of Argentina get poorer. She corruptly buys votes to keep her in power, then uses her own private mafia to extract the month back from the poorest of the poor. She has Swiss bank accounts full of billions of dollars, whilst the poor Argentines have to hand over all their foreign currency or lose it to crippling tax investigations.
She is driving Argentina into the ground, to become one of the poorest countries on Earth.
Soon, Argentines will have to beg countries like Zimbabwe or Ethiopia for help, because there will be starvation in the streets.
All caused by the wicked witch in the Casa Rosada and her fat ugly son.
Troy, you have it all wrong. The claimn will be the racist card. They are denying loans because we are racist.
Jul 13th, 2013 - 04:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes tobi
North Korea.....60 years of economic bliss......a country that murders it's people for escaping to eat.
Cuba.....55 years of support for the USSR......the Venezuela......now they are slowly trying market economies.
Iran.....35 years....wtf!....there is nothing to say about your ally iran, other than through April 2013....annualized inflation was 42%, argentina does have a lot in common
You have great role models.
Why are you people changing the topic... did the cutting of loans and then sanctions OVERTHROW those governments yes or no?
Jul 13th, 2013 - 04:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If the answer is no, these measures were abject failures, or your countries are much meeker and feeble than you think.
Either way, if the answer is no, take your pick.
The world knows what the answer is.

Jul 13th, 2013 - 04:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It's quite simple to understand. Your country is doing us no favours so we are only reciprocating the gesture.
Internationally Argentina takes great joy in berating the UK for it's sins according to it's twisted logic. We have done practically nothing to challenge this - now we have.
£200 million may sound a small amount but there are more deserving counties who could do with this help.
@10 Sure you don't mean animosity?
Jul 13th, 2013 - 04:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0But then, if argieland wasn't such a cheating, lying, thieving shitheap, things might be different. After about 20 years of proving its new-found honesty.
@11 Don't blame CFK and her spastic offspring in isolation. There is plenty of evidence that many argies are similarly bent. Could this be a valid reason for ethnic cleansing? There needs to be research to ensure that useless individuals cannot contribute to the gene pool. Compulsory sterilisation for 60-70% of the population. Proper Argentines can assist by chasing down males and chopping their balls off. For females, a white-hot poker in the appropriate orifice should do the trick.
@ 13 I see the point you are making but I don't think the intention is to overthrow CKF's government. It is withdrawing support because the money was intended specifically to help the poorest Argentines and instead the money has disappeared into the pockets of the Kirchner oligarchy.
Jul 13th, 2013 - 04:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Any overthrowing needs to be done by the people of Argentina. You see, each time they see something like the withdrawal of support by the WB and the reason why, they see they are being fed lies by CFK. Eventually they will see her for what she is and dispatch her.
Im not sure what attacks” have been perpetrated outside the sphere of the Falklands. I highly suspect that for the UK, just like for the EU and the USA, having a different worldview constitutes an attack.

Jul 13th, 2013 - 04:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Take South Africa. Sanctions and world condemnation of the regime finally made the Boers realise they could not win. It took a long while but finally succeeded.
N.Korea is coming back to the negotiating table.
Cuba will gradually come back to some kind of democracy which suits their population
Who knows in the case of Iran. Other than sanctions there is nothing else that can be done short of a war.
When the population are ruled by religious zealots with guns then the people keep their heads down. Who knows what will happen there but why should we make it easy for their govt. to reclaim the Persian Empire of historical times.
@18
Jul 13th, 2013 - 04:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So what you are suggesting is that when Truman, De Gaulle, Kennedy, et all imposed sanctions and embargoes, it was the plan all along in the understanding it would take half a century for them to start working their magic? I imagine Kennedy saying 'lets embargo Cuba because they've turned communist, hopefully within the next 60 years... that will get me re-elected”.
@ The Truth PaTroll , so take a minute and explain what kind of life the peoples of the country's you so proudly mention have to suffer tell us all about the freedoms they enjoy tell us all that for one minute wouldn't most of the peoples of the country's you mention want to change the way they live if only in fear of the gun????

We don't need toilet paper from unemployed Europe and their friends.
@19 You are talking about a completely different time. Read up on the Cuban missile crisis. You cannot even begin to compare the political situation 50 years ago with today.
Jul 13th, 2013 - 05:13 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Again, this is not about overthrowing the Argentine government. CFK's government refuses to account for where the WB loan money is going. We all know it is not reaching the poor as was intended but is going in the back pockets of corrupt officials, so future loans will not be made.
@ Marcos Alejandro, You might be unemployed living of the fat of the land in London a country that as given you sanctuary from a piss hole of a country like Argentina but never forget you can always take the daily BA flight back to where you came from but be honest life in The UK is far to good compared to where you fled from.

Jul 13th, 2013 - 06:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0No. But the alternative is physical force. In the case of Cuba, it nearly came to WW3 ! I can remember seeing some of our V
bomber force turning up at Prestwick airport when the Russian ships were nearing Cuba. It became obvious that this was more than one of their routine exercises and there was something really scary afoot.
#21 Yes you do !
Tobi you cannot say the embargo on Cuba was ineffective for 60 years because the vast majority of those years, Cuba was outright propped up and supported by the USSR solely do to the proximity to the USA. When the USSR collapsed, as most communism does and will, so did Cuba. Then cubby chavo came along to support Cuba and they barely chugged along. Now Venezuela can't even wipe their asses let alone support Cuba, Cuba for the first time is changing. After 60 years they are allowing some market reforms and travel. What kind of a national refused their citizens to freely travel the world? Perhaps Argentina will be the next afterall they outlaw international currency and no one wants an Argentine peso.

Jul 13th, 2013 - 06:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0North Korea and Cuba are Totalitarian States, remnants of Communism , a failed ideology, yet perpetuated by a military elite for their own purposes.
The USA lost all their industrial investments and assets in Cuba, and then Nuclear missiles were installed there to intimidate the US.
Understandable that there was resentment.
There is great resentment too,in Cuba, from the young educated people towards the USSR for leaving abruptly after 28 years of support.
Very very lean times followed.
China and Canada invested money and technology in the Cuban petroleum sector, Italy and Spain (EU) worked with them to develop the Tourist Industry, their bread and butter.
I have been to Cuba Toby - you haven't.
They did suffer terribly - very little food.
The US is looking to invest, EU and Canadian tourism has brought new wealth, now that they are gaining the freedom to exercise Free Enterprise again.
Once the Castros are gone, it will be a new Cuba, whether you like it or not.
North Korea wants South Korea and...
Are you going to give it to them?
@21, Yes you do
Jul 13th, 2013 - 06:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentina receives substantial loans from the World Bank, an organisation in which Britain is a major shareholder
Jul 13th, 2013 - 07:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Wow! is that what you call a major shareholder………….1.25 %
Now here we are……the real reason why the little ass licker is doing this…..
“The Obama Administration in the United States has already announced a policy of voting no to any new loans thanks to Argentina’s failure to respect its obligations to earlier lenders. We call upon the British Government to - at the very least - support that and vote against any new World Bank loans to Argentina.”

Thinks cost per Kelper and hitting the UK were it hurts, in their pocket seems to be failing miserably.
Chuckle chuckle.
#29 There you are. I thought you disappeared considering you never came back in the AMIA article regarding my question to you about Frnaklin and essential libery and temporary purchased security. :-D
Troy did you read the Washington Post? Oasshole is thinking about support Argentina in a SCOTUS appeal. His AG Holder, whom is already on thin ice as well as Obama himself is pushing their lucking supporting a foreigner over a US citizen. They have not made a determination yet as I am sure they are testing the winds to gauge to repercussions. However, that being said, there are nine on SCOTUS with 4 as activist justices trying to re-invent law and 5 conventional justices that just judge the law.
Jul 13th, 2013 - 08:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Personally, I think Obama would be pushing his luck as he already had a number of Senators and Representatives from Democrats and Republicans sending letters of outrage if they do.
The UK wants to avoid throwing good money at Argentina when we are not going to see the money they have already screwed us for. I really don't see how attempting to cut our losses translates into the UK/EU/US trying to be an imperialist master to Argentina.
Jul 13th, 2013 - 09:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentina have clearly won this one and everyone else is trying for damage limitation, so why are the malvinistas acting like whiny little bitches? @37 Clyde15: Do you advocate UK taxpayer's money to be loaned to Argentina when they are certainly no friend to us
Jul 13th, 2013 - 09:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The obvious answer is that it is Think, who most(if not all) on here believe to be Argentinean.
But beyond that, we invest in and do business with loads of countries (really governments, but lets call them countries just for ease) that we are not exactly best mates with: the difference is we might see a return, or at least some sort of positive outcome for the UK.
Argentina are just taking the mickey

“The Obama Administration in the United States has already announced a policy of voting no to any new loans thanks to Argentina’s failure to respect its obligations to earlier lenders. @7
Jul 14th, 2013 - 08:49 am - Link - Report abuse 0That's a very good idea Simon.
After all the Qom are' original 'Argentines and I doubt the money would end up in Switzerland.
Also, although the Falklands don't need aid, because there are no desperately poor people in the Falklands, I'm sure a 'small' sum of development aid for the deep water port wouldn't go amiss.
And unlike Argentina who receive aid from the UK and spit at us, the islanders would be more appreciative of development aid, and the UK would get some return in the future where loan to Argentina achieves a negative return
@5
This isn't a sanction.
Why should the UK lend money to Argentina when:
1/-Aid does not reach the poor-it goes into CFKs Swiss bank accounts.
2/- Argentina does not pay back loans.
3/-Argentina declares the UK as an enemy.
4/-It finances Argentina's wish to be an Imperialist bully.
@21
If amongst the many other things it cannot manufacture , Argentina cannot actually manufacture toilet paper, the Dark Country is indeed in deep sh1t.
If you are in need of European toilet paper, things are indeed grim.
@53
Yet Argentina in the past has been happy to receive aid off an austere UK.
The definition of UK austerity=mega mega wealth beyond wildest dreams in Argentina-a question of context.
@17 Wouldn't you construe failing to comply with treaties, stealing people's money from around the world, refusing to comply with the judgements of various courts to be attacks. Guess what. There are over 50 judgements against argieland. Being criminal, argieland refuses to comply. It fought, it argued, it lost. And then it said The rules are wrong. We're supposed to always win! So we're not playing anymore.
Jul 14th, 2013 - 02:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@21 Well, according to Venezuela, you do!
@29 Do I care? It so happens that the UK sees things the same way as the USA. As long as it hurts argieland, I'm all for it. I think argies dying from starvation in the streets is worth a whole section on youtube. Perhaps we could bet. Pick out an individual, such as yourself, and make bets on when you will starve to death. Just imagine the excitement as you stagger down the street. Put money on when your bowels will open. Be nearly as good as watching gladiators in Rome. But, with the lack of toilet paper, much funnier!
@40 But the spokesman didn't say how much British money has been given to argieland. And the answer is? Too much! The important thing is that we get a say on whether ANY money is loaned to argieland. Given argieland's failure to repay debts, why lend it any more? Isn't it supposed to be rich in resources? So we can just stand back and watch. Hahahahahaha!
@42 What you seem to have lost sight of is that you took 258 British lives. We haven't yet made you pay enough for that. But we will.
@49 Don't you mean that you've left the shanty? Buildings! In argieland? Built by the British then. While you're out, steal some more corrugated tin.
@53 Still a hundred times better than slugland! How does it feel to be a loser that the whole world laughs at? Remember Tinboy rushing to the UN to expose UK militarisation? As usual, demonstrating argie brain-death. Maybe you should try some austerity. As a start, stop eating. Then you won't need toilet paper.
They should have stopped all payements to argentina many many years ago.Argentina owe to IMF,they owe to the USA,they owe to all global institutions.They dont have any money lefr as like greece all overspent and nothing left.So stopping all future payements is long overdue and hope this will stay until argentina accepts that the Falkland Islands are British,will always be british,it will never be called anything but Falkland Islands.

No problem. :-)
@61,
Jul 15th, 2013 - 09:15 am - Link - Report abuse 0l signed it with pleasure.
And made it aware to others.

No time to read the comments to date, but it seems that Greening is 'putting the block in' early.
Jul 15th, 2013 - 09:55 am - Link - Report abuse 0@61 If I recall correctly, I did.
Jul 15th, 2013 - 12:53 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@63 Could you get away from this idea that the UK does anything the USA says? It may be that we see many things in much the same way. Tracking back to the Vietnam war, I seem to recall the Australia went and the UK didn't. Wasn't the UK more capable? But it wasn't in our interest. But if we'd gone with Hitler in the 40s, we could probably have got America back. Especially with Canada attacking from the north!
@71 Argieland owes the UK at least £45 million. It has done since 1979. And most of the money was used to finance the argie invasion of the Falkland Islands. By purchasing, amongst other things, two Type 42 destroyers. And, last year, some brain-dead group of liberals calling itself Jubilee Debt Campaign was saying the debt should be cancelled. Just goes to show how thick liberals are.
However, to your comment, how is this 'putting the block in' early?
I to signed it too..
Jul 15th, 2013 - 06:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I signed it too.
Jul 15th, 2013 - 10:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I have no problem helping the poor, but I do have a problem helping the rich corrupt classes get richer.
@74
Jul 16th, 2013 - 01:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0So why you pay UK taxes? You helped all those trillionaire banks cover their loses, didn't you? Have they given you stock in their banks now that they are profitable again?
I guess next crash you'll be gladly paying for their loses too.

Jul 16th, 2013 - 06:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0Keep crying, Argentina... and Toby.
No more money for you.
@61 Yep, I signed the petition.
Jul 16th, 2013 - 09:47 am - Link - Report abuse 0My thoughts are that if enough countries stop feeding the weed (Argentine gov) it will die off which will allow something new to take over.
@76
Jul 16th, 2013 - 02:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You know what I said whas the utter truth, quite inconvenient isn't. You pay for the poor in other countries and for the rich in your own country.

That gives this household immense satisfaction.
Maybe they can make arrangements w the Qom and Mapuche directly! :D The WB has been instrumental in bringing solar to communities with no infrastructure.
