The IMF decision to side with Argentina in its dispute with the US hedge funds has triggered strong criticism in the UK and the issue was brought up in Parliament, according to a piece in the Daily and Sunday Express under the heading: “The British cash cow: Fury as UK money helps Argentina fight £66bn debt”. If Argentina has so little shame or self-worth to accept charity from a country it hates then go right ahead. My issue is not whether we lend to Argentina to help it keep its pensioners from freezing or starving to death, my issue is whether having borrowed against my childrens' future to loan them this money - how do we make sure we ever get it back again? How soon before we hear sovereignty arguments justifying non-repayment. If CDK wants the money then let her show some humility. Britain was diminished in the 70s by needing a loan but we always pay our debts and got strong again because companies knew they could do business here.

Redrow, the answer to your question is simple. You'll never get that money back. You should do all you can to support this campaign to stop giving money to a government that is trying to inflict so much damage to the owners of the hands that are trying to feed it. They are more deluded than I thought if they think they'll get away with it for much longer.

MPs Pritchard and Jackson's questions are fully understandable.

With the USA, UK, Japan, Spain and Germany voting against any new loans and disbursements from the Int'l banks the noose is getting tighter and tighter.
With all that skin on her neck it may take a longer than usual to feel it tho.

It's counter-productive to reward bad behaviour. Argentina defaults on their debts so regularly, that they now believe it is their God-given right to take money that is loaned to them and never pay it back.

The only way you can break the cycle of default is to give the same treatment that most heroin-junkies end up with - cold turkey.

Argentina needs to suffer in order that they can learn what not to do. That they should not elect criminal politicians, they should not let the mafia ruin their lives, that they should not antagonise their neighbours and they should instead cooperate so they can benefit from the rewards.

Whilst the Mad Bitch is in power, the Argentine people will get poorer, their country will get weaker and they will be humiliated by other nations.

It's in the interests of all IMF lenders to ensure that NO loans are made to Argentina and that they are compelled to pay back ALL their debts in full, before any future loans are made.

We should not even give them humanitarian aid. They need shock-therapy to bring them back to their senses. If the ordinary Argentine people could not eat, the Mad Bitch would not be in power for long.

Actually Argentina recently deposited U.S.$400Million with the I.M.F.
Draw your own conclusions on their motives ( pun intended ). I'm sure Yankeeboy will have an opinion on that particular subject.

Obviously that figure is not remotely in the same vicinity ( or even postcode ) as 29BillionSterling.

    7. If I remember correctly they it allows them more drawing rights. It is irrelevant because I don't see the IMF accepting the new Indec algorithm nor Argentina restating the last decade of GDP and Inflation data by eom Sept. before Arg undergoes final review before suspension.

Yes, it does give them the possibility of drawing a much larger amount. The general consensus, if I recall correctly, was that it was a sign of how perilous their short-term outlook really was.

I brought my children up with a very simple regime: if you are naughty, if you scream at your mother (they NEVER did it to me) then you get punished. If you do it again you get a slap on one leg, etc., etc. Always followed by a cuddle to reinforce the message that when they are good they get a cuddle and we DID still love them.

Result: as adults, my children can go any anywhere and be welcomed. They have VERY good jobs and their own houses.

This basic method of punishment and reward has yet to be learnt by the Peronistas and I doubt that it ever will.

Peronistas are demonstrably the parasites infesting the Body Politic in Argentina and for that reason alone there is very little hope for the country in general.

The USA plays the long game, Argentina the short game. USA has given Argentina enough rope to hang themselves and it seems they are happy to take that rope.
My guess is by eoy the holdout issue will be settled in the courts, Argentina will default, then soon afterwards a huge peso devaluation will occur and hyperinflation will ensue.
Everyone can see the ending but the Peronistas
    Not long now

I love really how ignorant UK politicians lie and make believe British to be rescuing the world and acting as if they would be the owners.

Let’s see Argentina is among top 20 contributors to IMF with U$s 3.5 billions that all together represent the 70% of IMF funding.

While UK contributes with only just U$s 16.1 billions.

The bigger contributors to IMF are USA with U$s 63,1 billions, Japan with $21,9 billions and Germany with U$s 21,8

The statement that UK taxpayer money is used to help Argentina is a big lie.
In fact Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, China, India, Mexico, Chile, etc , taxpayers money is being used to save the mess in Europe to save British, German, French, etc banks to don’t go burst by the public debt crisis (PIIGS).
Because all are in the mess like UK, France, Germany, etc. that are really the big PIGS that will go belly up if the mess widespread across Europe.

So IMF is trying to save his own skin because if the court rules against Argentina again all restructuring debt in Europe will be jeopardise and banks will lose a lot of money.

    That simple,

UK cannot help it self and less can help others as cannot afford to pay its own debt the U$s16 billion to IMF is not UK generosity. Otherwise is the Quota that they have to pay as Argentina and all members to be part of the IMF club to have influence in IMF.

That Quotas provide votes in IMF board and UK only represents only 4% power voting while Argentina close to 1%. So lets say that without 16% of Obama voting power nothing is done because Argentina just with Brazil, Venezuela, and Mexico for example invalidates UK power voting.

So if I would be Argentina I will pull out from IMF and convince all Latam and emerging countries to do so.

Then I will sit with a lot of pop corn in front of the telly to see how powerful UK go through the drains with it financial sector together with the rest of Europe. We need sanitation like happen in Latam after all were burst.

    Don’t you think so?

Here in the South of England things are fine we have a lovely summer, and a green and pleasant land. We don't need bars on our windows, we don't have piles of rubbish on every corner, corrupt politicians and police, propaganda posters everywhere, mafia, a sinking currency, raging inflation and mass unemployment like you do.

@13 What strange figures you come out with. There are a couple of ways of looking at this. On the one hand, one can look at a country's actual financial position in the Fund. On the other, one can look at a country's voting rights.
A country's position is determined by the number of SDRs it has available.
At the top of the tree is the United States.
Fund holdings of currency: 28,429.80 million SDRs
    Reserve position: 13,690.15 million SDRs

Down a bit is the United Kingdom.
Fund holdings of currency: 7,462.76 million SDRs
    Reserve position: 3,275.75 million SDRs

    And finally, argieland
Fund holdings of currency: 2,116.92 million SDRs
    Reserve position: 0.2 million SDRs

What does this mean in terms of the votes available to members?
The United States has 421,961 votes. 16.75% of the total
The United Kingdom has 108,122 votes. 4.29% of the total
Argieland has 21,908 votes. 0.87% of the total

Just so everyone knows, this data was taken from the IMF site.

So, DB, it seems that your information is a load of bullshit. You might have got a clue when you said, quote:
“Let’s see Argentina is among top 20 contributors to IMF with U$s 3.5 billions that all together represent the 70% of IMF funding.

While UK contributes with only just U$s 16.1 billions.”
Just look at that! Your own words say that the UK contributes 4.6 times as much as argieland. And just a bit further on:
“That Quotas provide votes in IMF board and UK only represents only 4% power voting while Argentina close to 1%.”
Let's go with the possible options. You're drunk, stupid or mentally deranged!

Are desperate to give money to Argentina,

Interestingly, the British, could withdraw our bit,

And it’s all about MONEY – cash , dosh , bread , ect,

Jose still doesn't understand that the Islanders have every right to be an independent nation. It is by their choice & their democratic vote that they choose to be British.

The Islands have been British since 1765 and the Islanders are the natural descendants of the Vernet colony, most of which remained on the islands after the illegal United Provinces garrison was told to leave. The Vernet colonists were joined by more settlers from all over the world, but they all choose to be British.

They choose to be British, because they know that Britain respects their rights, whilst Argentina does not.

They choose to be British, because Britain will defend their right to choose their own destiny with every asset available to the United Kingdom.

You need to secure that by disable password root access.

That is not good as all hackers attack port 22 to get access root.

Change that to a not meaningful port other than 22 and also use “SSH Authorized Key” to use shell service and also disallow any base access password root.

As I said, the more time passes the more the politics of the EU, USA, IMF, etc will care less about the argentine debt. They will want the issue to go away... that was Argentina's plan all along, drag it out and out and out until either the original bondholders were mostly dead, or people just simply forgot or wanted to move on.

It happens with anything in life, the more time passes the more something recedes in preponderance.

Dany, There is no other country in the last 100yrs that has moved faster and further down the GDP chart than Argentina.
The reason I watch Arg so much is because I am scared the USA could get on the same path. There are a number of reasons that will not happen in my lifetime but it is a scary thought,
I think Obama is the worst President since FDR. Hopefully the next one will be better but as long as the Senate switches over to Republican control in 2014 as it is expected to do I will be happy no matter who is Prez.
The sequestration is working and will work better in following years as the GDP grows and Fed gov''t spending is lowered. We are on a good and steady path and should be energy independent in a decade. Our next decade looks to be pretty promising. There are a lot of good things lining up to keep us as the richest most powerful country in the world for a very long time. I am happy to debate it anytime with you.

Speaking of dangerous.........If you are so fond of statistics
    I did find this projection........
USA........a great place to live......without fear........
As the increasing rate of people being killed by firearms has showed no signs of slacking so far, from 2013 to 2022 an estimated 339,400 people will be killed by firearms.
That figure is 29,526 more firearm deaths when compared to the historical ten year period from 2002 to 2011.

To give you some perspective on those numbers, 339,000 people is roughly equivalent to the entire population of Tampa, Fla.

In Argentina you have to be wary of walking in your own neighborhood and in the city parks at night.
I moved back when my neighbors son lost a finger to kidnappers, neighbors had their cars boxed in on our street and many many commando assaults in the neighborhood.

    79. GOod Find!
And this is what I have been saying for a long time..
To increase monetary supply by 40% yoy you MUST have growth, fake growth/spillover growth really meaningless but growth nonetheless. Argentina has been in recession since Nov 2011.
And it is only going to get worse.

Even though the inflation number is heavily “understated”, the growth numbers reported by the officials should be more reliable? But this 7.8% number is meant to approximate the “real” instead of the “nominal” measure of the GDP growth. Which means that inflation numbers are key to this determination. The official inflation rate reported by the same government agency is 10.5%, while the actual number is more than double that amount. Computed using a more accurate inflation measure, the real GDP is likely to be negative.
